I wanted to gain a little more head room, so I installed a fresh new set of lowered seat platforms from a 1969 - 1970 Mustang.
Lowered Seat Platforms - CJ Pont Parts - M332L & M332R (left and right pieces)
The car is a 1966 Mustang Fastback with a factory V8 and T5 transmission.
Shot with GoPro Hero 9 with the Media Mod, edited on Davinci Resolve 18.

Nice work! You did a great job improving on what the previous owner left behind. Also great info to hear that 1969 platforms fit in earlier cars!

My welding ability is marginal at best, so hopefully it is improving on what was done before. :)

A rare video of Andy welding followed shortly by a typical jump cut off Andy's welding. Great video. Never knew this was an option. My roof goes down so I don't have this problem 🤪

I did the same thing, but installed the pans back 2 inches, enough room to make a second set of holes on the underside for the seat nuts. I could hang welded in the pieces from the new holes into the old holes, but got lazy and just ordered new plugs. WAY more leg room!

I did this a few years ago. The difference is that I used my original seat panels, cut the edges and welded them back upside down. I gained 2 inches of roof clearance. Then I bolted ProCar seats. Recently I bought the awesome Mustangs To Fear Headliner and gained another 2 inches, so I have 4 inches of extra space. I also have a 14 inches steering wheel. I’m 6’ 2” and a tad heavier than you. My 65 now feels like I’m inside a Cadillac, lol. Another great video from you!

@@AndyKruseChannel Make sure to use both deadner and foam on the roof before you install the MTF headliner…you probably know that already. Measure carefully for the holes of the sun visors brackets and rear view mirror. I also installed a regular CJ Pony dome light, not the super expensive MTF console roof light. Order their matching sun visors too and their windlace kit. Can’t wait to see that video in the future.

Some advice for the future, when you’re welding sheet metal, it’s good to place sheet metal screws where you’re gonna be welding to pull the metal tight to one another then you just pull the screws out one at a time and weld in it’s place, makes for a tighter weld plus it also helps hold the sheet metal in place until you get it tacked in , but overall great work Andy, you’ve come a long way with that car.

I’m pretty sure we’d be good friends if we didn’t live on opposite sides of the country. Think I’ve mentioned before that our cars are amazingly similar with many of the mods. I took my stock pan out and cut about 1 1/8 out of it on the driver side. I’m 6’3’’ and can now wear a helmet without being in the headrest. Lots of work but worth it to be more comfortable in your car. Great vid. Keep ‘em coming. Thanks for sharing

Like you said it's hard to tell from the video angles but looking at where everything lines up I think that 67-68 Cougar seat risers are shorter. Looks great, and a huge improvement over the previous hack job.

For melting the carpet bolt holes you can also heat up a punch with a torch and press it in for a few seconds. Does the same job!

You could drop another 2 inches with a racing seat like the all aluminum ones. 👍 Also did you install front torque boxes?
@AndyKruseChannel
@AndyKruseChannel 2 жыл бұрын
I haven't made up my mind yet on what seats to go with, so lowering the seat platforms provides some extra clearance just in case. No, I have not done the torque boxes yet.

Those probably were the original seat pans. They cut them out to install the floor pan patch panel then welded them back in, well, kinda welded. Also it seemed like you are missing the metal pieces that go between the seat runner and carpet so the seat doesn't snag the carpet. FYI
@AndyKruseChannel
@AndyKruseChannel 2 жыл бұрын
Haha, I probably missing more than that on this car. :)

@AndyKruseChannel
@AndyKruseChannel 5 ай бұрын
Tall enough to appreciate the lowered seat pans. However, just using the Seat Rail Extensions that I designed and sell will often do the trick since the seat pans are sloped, the farther you go back, the lower the seat (or more head room). :)
@Darkpixel2
@Darkpixel2 5 ай бұрын
@@AndyKruseChannel reason i'm asking is because i'm 6" tall. In the fastback it's the opposite the more you slide back the less headroom you get

For me it’s the 15 1/2 (or 16 inch?) stock steering wheel that was a little tight on the 71-73 models. I don’t know what the stock sizes are on the older ones, but it seems like you have a 1/2 inch of leg room before your knees touch it. I guess it might be why they sell 13 1/2 and 14” aftermarket steering wheels. Never had a problem with the headliner other than it falling down and crumbling in your hands lol
@AndyKruseChannel

With manual steering, the larger diameter steering wheel is almost a requirement. :)
