It’s only been a few years since I started to learn anything about fixing my own stuff. I used to say that an engine just looked like black spaghetti to me. This video really brought back memories of some of those early anxiety addled forays into doing my own repairs. All of those cables and wire bundles, aaaaah! KZbin content like this has really helped to see and understand how things fit together and work, and given me the confidence to take projects on by myself. Thanks for suffering through this bear of a project! I hope the new (old) bars make your rides even more enjoyable, Andy! Happy summer to ya!

Wider and wider bars. I was for it a while. Now I'm not sure. The greater leverage one has the easier it is to overcome the natural stability of the bike and turn. However this has downsides. Every puff of wind that comes along shoves the shoulders which in turn telepaths to the hands and the bars. The worst effect of this is riding behind a large truck which buffets wind left to right. I guess there's a balance somewhere between clipons and long-horn cattle bars. Watching all this, bringing back memories of my sold 2011 FZ1 and all the horsing around I did under the tank, routing wires and airbox and TPS things. I never liked the place they stuck the ECU. But overall I felt like Yamaha did a quality job with the way everything was put together with fairings and fasteners. I got the full 150 whp after all was finished.
@AndyManCam5 жыл бұрын
I’ve never really noticed the wind affecting my steering. But then they do say that you should hold he bars with the same pressure as you’d hold an egg. So when I’m on the motorway I’m not doing much more than resting my hands on the grips. I agree that Yamaha did OK with this one. Getting in to the guts is a faff, but it also goes pretty quick and simple. Of course having no fairing helps a great deal in that department!! I’m not sure what I’d do with more power!! I just want the fuelling fixed once and for all!!
@exothermal.sprocket5 жыл бұрын
@@AndyManCam Yeah mine had the 1/4 fairing upper. The FZ1N wasn't an option in the USA. ECU flash is the only way to really open up everything the way the bike was designed to run before it got corrupted by tree hugging regulations. The source I used was east-coast USA. Not sure what's available overseas. www.ivansperformanceproducts.com/2006fz1.htm

When you go back in the winter to look at drilling and rethreading the air body look at Copper Dawgs video on the Lars Air Box Mod increases airflow with a K&N air filter a win win for the bike. You can also look at modding the flies improves mid range throttle response.

2008 FZ1. I'm thinking of replacing the handle bar. How much/length of clutch, front brake, horn, signal cables is tucked away? 7/8 in. I ride with some R6 that I can keep up with. I have them top end. My bike has 125k,s I just ran a tank with Lucas fuel injector cleaner. My throttle pulse is gone bike is smooth as glass. Again

Hi Andy !! I got a weird question for you, how tall are you ? Just asking because I am 190cm and I don't know if it is really relevant to change my handlebar !! Thank you for your video.
@AndyManCam4 жыл бұрын
I'm 193cm Michael. So possibly no reason for you to change! I just wanted the bars a little wider and also the fact that they are steel means almost no vibrations now.

I just bought a similar Handlebar from Polo and explicit asked it will fit with the original cables... and what a surprise... it doesnt fit. Then i found your Video about it and you could make it fit - exept the breaklines because you already changed them. Changing them was already on my To-Do-List, but i dont know, how long they have to be. You said you took some longer breaklines, but in the Video where u changed them, it looks like its the Standard length. Or can you tell me how long it exacly was, if you ordered it with additional length?
@AndyManCam3 жыл бұрын
Hi! I ordered the brake lines 3cm longer than standard. 👍🏻

No worries. Happy umbau!
@profreak12993 жыл бұрын
Thx. But i'm acutally still concerned about the length of the cables. I did some research... the Probrake FZ1 Alternative braded lines are 73cm and 76cm long (from the middle of the end... thing to the other). So today i measured for the third time. So mouned new Handlebar (exakt same measures like yours) and tried to see if 76cm and 79cm will fit. And it would be really, really close. I'm just thinking about adding 7cm (because the new Handlebars bar 7,1cm higher). Is there a posibility, that the Fazer needs longer Breaklines as the N-version? I mean its just the Front thats different, isnt it? Just dont want to buy the wrong lengh 😅
@AndyManCam3 жыл бұрын
Hey! I’ve just dug out my actual order and it sends you’re probably right! I actually ordered the lines 7cm longer.

Could I put these bars on my FZS600? LOOKS REALLY COOL, ANODISED? BLACK TOO
@AndyManCam4 жыл бұрын
I don'T see why not. These are actually Steel bars, so they're powder coated, rather than anodized.

Hi, just a quick note about “Philips screws” on Japanese motorcycles, they are actually JIS screws. jisscrewdriver.com/. Hope this helps someone avoid rounding off a screw in the future.

Since I don't possess even a fraction of AMC's wrench-turning skills; 20 min. into the process, I'd probably have rage quit leaving the bike with half of its components lying on the ground only to look back in regret 2 hours later...
