PT fans, vote this up! Try these next (in chronological order, in case you want to observe their evolution): -"Wake as Gun I" and "Dark Matter" off of 'Signify' (1996) -"Trains" and "The Sound of Muzak" - 'In Absentia' (2002) - this album is what a lot of fans and critics consider their masterpiece and it's where my personal journey started "Arriving Somewhere but not Here" - 'Deadwing' (2005) "Way Out of Here" and "Sentimental" - 'Fear of a Blank Planet' (2007) "Time Flies" and "The Blind House" - 'The Incident' (2009) You won't regret any of those. They've been around a while before those suggestions. Since 2011, unfortunately, they have disbanded, but remain one of THE progressive giants. Steven Wilson has a side project called Blackfield that would be worth checking out as well, and I believe he still writes for it. Mikael Akerfeldt of Opeth and Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree are friends, and have collaborated before (see Storm Corrosion; suggested track: "Storm Corrosion"). That's probably why you were flooded with all the suggestions, mine incuded. Welcome to Porcupine Tree man! If you don't react to any of those, at least listen to them on your own time. They'll take you places.

I first heard this song in 2011, when I was 18. As the song progressed, my emotions ran the entire range of human feelings. I didn't even think it was possible for a single song to have that effect on someone. Ever since that first listen, I couldn't stop. To say that Anesthetize hits me right in the feels, and is one of the best songs ever would somehow only begin to describe how I feel about it.

There are many, MANY exceptional Porcupine Tree songs, all varying in style, length and landscape. I've loved (nay, adored) them since I was 11 and have hit the ripe old age of 32. No other band has held my attention as whole heartedly as Porcupine Tree/Steven Wilson. Glad you enjoyed :)

Shout out to you good Sir, for mentioning Evergrey!! Yes! What a brilliant band. Powerful, melodic, full of emotion and some of the best songs that sadly hasnt reached out to lots of others. I think Evergrey are one of the most Underrated bands in the world. "Passing Through" is the song that I first heard from them, and I was stunned that I had not discovered them before. I soon bought all their albums. And there's something for everyone in all of them. Recent album, The Atlantic was yet another classic. I wish more people listened to them!

kylereece1979 Evergrey is awesome!! I’ve seen them twice the last few years in Las Vegas and Portland OR. Sadly, this type of music is not well excepted on the west coast of the States. Both shows had about 50 people attending. I felt bad for them, but they played their asses off like there were thousands of peoples here. Got to have a beer with them at both shows. Great humble dudes. Evergrey is top notch!!

@@jamesmurray5535 I only happened upon them over 3 years ago, I heard "Passing Through". I couldnt get over how amazing it was. And I could not believe that Id never heard them before. I buy/collect rock magazines and Id never read about them. It is insane how Underrated they are. Anybody thats into anything from Alter Bridge to Metallica and anyting inbetween will like them. Emotive, atmospheric anthemic, and real. Im Irish, and justover a year ago, they made their headlining debut here in a club to about 150 people in Dublin. They were playing like it was a 10,000 peopled arena, told us how much they appreciated us for showing up,and were amazing to anyone that wanted to meet n'greet afterwards. I saw them for the first time in 2018 at a metal festival in England. They went on earlyish in the day, and again played a headline worthy set. They should be Huge! Tanks for the reply ,and I hope you are well and safe.

First time hearing this band. I am totally blown away. God, they are in the stratosphere in talent......beautiful song. For me, I hear Pink Floyd influence ALLOT with Tool thrown in....This is true story stoner music to me...reminds me of getting lost in Pink Floyd back in the seventies......

You're in for a real treat with this band. They're one of the best for progressive. It's smoother than Tool, they will never flat out drop you on your face like Tool does but they're incredibly smooth and the singer is incredible. Sound of Musak, Arriving Somewhere but not here, Blackest Eyes, and on and on and on, they have an incredible library.

So many great parts to this song. The mid section with the heavy guitar going left, right is so mean and then the light major Rhodes sounding piano on top of it is genius. The mixing of those emotions there are what they were so good at. Epic piece of work.

React to Drive home - Steven Wilson. Amongst the amazing composition you'll also get a taste of one of the greatest guitarists "Guthrie Govan". You'll get an idea when you hear the solo.

So glad you finally got around to this, I really think you will enjoy it a ton, especially the stuff from In Absentia forward, since it tends to have more of an edge than the earlier, more spacey, Floydian stuff. Don't get me wrong, it's all amazing, but this is a band that were constantly developing and growing. Two recommendations I would throw in, along with the titles others have already suggested, are Hatesong (the live version especially) and a Steven Wilson solo song called Routine. Look for the stop-motion animated video for Routine, it really helps to give context to the lyrics. Enjoy!

Man I’ve enjoyed this video. I don’t typically watch the entire segment for these kinds of videos, usually skipping through until the song is over to get a person’s final thoughts, but your reactions during the song kept me watching. Been a Porcupine Tree fan for many years, here is my Top 10 List: 1. Trains 2. Anesthetize 3. Fear of a Blank Planet 4. Time Flies 5. Deadwing 6. Normal 7. Arriving Somewhere But Not Here 8. A Smart Kid 9. Shallow 10. Dark Matter

Dig a little farther back to "Stars Die", and then "Dark Matter", both studio tho, hard to play live. Mellow, ethereal... awesome guitar solo end of D.M. Loved your reactions tho, same as mine ten years ago.😉
