Thank you for the video! It really helped me on my interview. I followed your video very closely. Two things I was called out on: 1) Asking 'How are you feeling?' at the beginning of the lesson. Instead of asking 'How are you' i asked 'How are you feeling?'. The interviewer said that student would not know how to answer because they have not learned feelings yet. 2) The ending needs to show the rewards and be extremely excited about the amount the student received. I hope that this helps someone!

I love Angela. I have watched waaaay toooo many "Suzy Sunshine" Videos. Angela is honest and doesn't frazzle when her daughter walks into her video. I decided I wanted to watch her videos for VIPKid after seeing her video regarding "Honest Pros/Cons of VIPKid"". She is honest and yet a true proponent of what a fantastic opportunity to teach something spectacular for a child!!! Thanks Angela Silva!

This video is SOOO HELPFUL! I just aced an interview with them this afternoon - onto Mock 1! I love how slowly and thoroughly you go over each slide and the suggestions to model, etc This REALLY helped me. I set up my laptop/webcam and behind it, I put the slides on our main computer. I used my own kids as students so they were messing up on purpose etc. So I didn't feel ready but I think I really was! :)

Thanks, Angela. I was scheduled for my interview at 6:30 MT time. All Skype tests were good. Entered classroom early, practiced underlining, etc, could see myself and hear. When Interview came in, I Could hear her, BUT could NOT see her. Her box turned to a green screen and flickered. She said I needed to reschedule and I did for tomorrow night. Very disappointed. Sent ?'s to tech. If I tested several times before the interview, how do I know that it wasn't a problem on China's side?

I was wanting to have a copy of the PowerPoint demo I will be expected to demo so I can practice before I go live. I have been teaching all grades in a classroom since 9/11 of 2002. I have lots of whiteboards and several puppets. Basically I have a storage space loaded with teacher stuff as I have been almost a year away from a classroom. Watching this positive energy from you and Nancy Taylor gave me hope for making a difference. Thank you!

Just to let you know I watched your other videos about Mock 1 prep. I was fully prepared but fell apart on the second half. I think I will choose the meeting vs. Mock 2 because it is the safe route. I fell apart after hearing feedback on the first half because it made me lose focus and I just didn't do what I practiced. I had it all ready and just bombed it. I'm surprised I got the choice I did. I just want to say thank you!

Angela your videos are great. You are a natural and your baby is adorable. I watched this video about 10 times and took notes. I took about 5 days to prepare for the interview&demo. I created a nice backdrop & picked out a nice top to wear. My interview/demo was last night and it went horrible. I struggled with what I thought were technical issues with my computer, I tried logging in to the test link to check my connection but nothing worked. I tried on 3 different computers and various browsers. I emailed them letting them know I was having issues. I started to panic. my husband was at a loss because he works with computers and couldn't get me connected at all. 15 min before the interview a VIPkids rep called me and said "did you forget you have an interview?" Ugh. Soon as I explained what was happening she said ok try again and I will help you. Soon as I attempted the link again it immediately opened up the classroom environment. They had not opened access to it until 10 min before the interview that is why I kept getting errors. I was so upset. I had about 2 minutes to familiarize myself with the platform. She went so fast thru the interview questions. Jumped right into the demo. I had a hard time understanding her heavy accent.. she gave me 8 minutes and stopped abruptly saying demo over. Gave me Feedback.after that it was all a blurr. She said I do better next time. And that a f/u email would be sent. Terrible experience. Sorry for the rant.😕

I am so glad that my referral teacher sent this link to me! I am a tenured teacher myself, but my experience is mostly with birth to five. I feel that my experiences in childcare and preschool will be so incredibly beneficial for this next phase of my career. I am so relieved to have clarification on expectations and reinforcement of Educational Concepts that I know to be true, but was not sure if they were cross culturally accepted or relevant. I love that you encourage, in fact downright demand that Educators who may not be as experienced model the expected objectives. That's how we learn, we copy everything we see from the minute we are born! Thank you so much for making this video, I am so much more confident in my ability to nail this interview and begin on a bright new shiny path in my life. Keep up the Rockstar work Angela!

So many good tips. I love the "freak out", modeling one, and I am going to mimic your reward system! But I have one question: some of the stuff you taught seems to suggest to me like they already have some basic knowledge - like the part of "M" and blending sounds. Would they already know that is the letter "M" and "L" but not know the sound? If not, how to not confuse them between what is alphabet and what is phonic? Thanks in advance!

I just watched this again after watching other videos. I noticed that you don't always use full sentences. Is that an oversight or is it not that important to always use full sentences. I'm thinking specifically about the M and the mouse and elephant. Thanks.
@AngelaSilva
@AngelaSilva 7 жыл бұрын
This is intentional - it's important to use simplified language and avoid what they call "incidental" language. Imagine if you were trying to learn Chinese (or another language you don't know if you already know Chinese) - it's much easier for you to pick out and understand a few words at a time than full sentences as a beginner. There are full sentences and sentence patterns they must learn, but overall just use simplified language with TPR as much as possible.

You explained very well, and mentioned some things that I had some worried about.

I see all of these specific hand signals that you are doing (like when you want them to repeat, etc). I've never done this before. Will you get all of these (or examples), etc before you start or do the interviews? Or is this something you are supposed to already know.

This was an AWESOME and incredibly helpful tutorial Angela! I think I'm going to do the "Interview Express" (just as soon as I figure out how to turn on my computer camera to record myself -- I am SO not technically gifted!). I do have one question about props... I am concerned about the Dino/Lily slide. My daughter (adopted from China) is now almost 14 so I no longer have anything that would be of help to me in the props department. I am going to go the Dollar Store tomorrow in hopes of finding something helpful there. Obviously I don't want to spend a lot at this stage on props. I don't know what to do if the Dollar Store doesn't have some kind of puppet. I've already purchased flash cards, a white board and Expo markers, block letters, a puffy pointer finger and a letter strip that shows all the letters of the alphabet in upper and lower case letters. From the Internet I printed out a treasure box and gold coins for the reward system. What can you recommend for the Dino/Lily slide? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
@AngelaSilva
@AngelaSilva 7 жыл бұрын
Hey Marie, even a stuffed animal would be better than nothing. You could even print out that slide and cut out the characters to indicate who is doing the speaking. Feel free to email me if you don't have a referral teacher helping you and I'd be happy to. angelamasilva123@gmail.com

If I don't have a physical whiteboard, how do I show the reward system on the computer? Does the system have a way to toggle back and forth between the PowerPoint and a whiteboard (where I can draw the reward system)?
@AngelaSilva
@AngelaSilva 7 жыл бұрын
The reward system is a physical object, you'll have to draw it on paper or something if that's what you choose to do. The only thing the student (and interviewer) will see is you and the powerpoint, so you must hold up a reward for them to see. I hope this answers your question!

Hi! just wondering if you have a system to track notes during the lesson that makes the feedback portion quick and easy breezy?
@AngelaSilva
@AngelaSilva 7 жыл бұрын
Great question. I use the chatbox on the side to jot down words, phrases, or sounds the student should practice. Then when I type feedback I quickly review the main things we covered, then include the things they should work on, followed by a thank you. It's quick and I'm always able to do it between classes.

Hi Angela. I loved the video and your teaching methods. I taught for kids for years and them stopped for over 15 years. I'm going back to teaching and will be posting my demo soon. I use your method! I agree in praising the student and showing them energy and a happy face. I use also the ping - pong game (meaning, I make them ask questions too). Thanks for the tips :)

From what I've read, I can't decide if I should be asking 'What is this?' or just saying it and having them repeat. Do they know what 'What is this' means? The teacher tip on the bottom of the slide says 'T pronounces each word and prompts student to circle the picture....' I don't want to get docked for incidental language!!! My interview is Tuesday.
@AngelaSilva
@AngelaSilva 7 жыл бұрын
Rachel Davidson there is conflicting feedback on this. To be safe, just circle and say it then have them repeat it, assume they wouldn't know the answer anyway and that you have to teach them everything.

Wonderful video! I was just wondering if this was a typical lesson length or if this is an abbreviated version. I was also curious to know if you typically teach the same lesson multiple times with different students or if just one or two kids stay with you through however many lessons there are total. Thank you for your assistance!
@AngelaSilva
@AngelaSilva 7 жыл бұрын
Kelly Glass this demo is an abbreviated lesson, a typical lesson has around 25 slides. I have a dozen or so regulars but then I see new students also every day and teach them just whatever level they are on, but after a while you are exposed to all of the material and lessons. Does that answer your question?

Thank you! Two questions though. 1. Is a referral teacher need or just helpful in the hiring process. 2. Looking at videos on line from current teachers. I am notice all females. (I've not seen them all obviously.) Are there many males that teach for VIPKIDS? Is there a preference either by the company or the parents?
@AngelaSilva
@AngelaSilva 7 жыл бұрын
Not a need, but having someone share tips and tricks that they know has helped hundreds of others pass might help you realize things you have not been doing. There are not as many men as women but honestly men are more popular for some reason. Maybe it's a cultural thing, idk, but if you're hired you'll likely never hurt for bookings.
