When Angelina gets in her zone - the place she 'goes to' she called it - nothing seems to bother her. At a jazz festival in Norway, an old man climb up on stage and walked inches behind her and she never flinched, never missed a note it was amazing. The vid is on the net and I think there's 3 songs in it. I would like to she more of her crowd interaction. As warm and loving as she is we're already hooked. Other than smiles, waves and minimal comments we don't see much emotion from her. When she was 10 she did a concert in Norway after finishing a song she yelled out "I FEEL GOOD" which got a good reaction with laughs and clapping. Then she proceeded to sing "I Feel Good". That is the most animated I've seen her in any concert.

I agree with your surprise, this performance was performed by an experienced artist of 16 years old, where she is happy, at home, singing for her family!! In this relaxed moment, she presents us with several of her artistic skills, relaxed and brilliant!! Angelina sings with emotion, gently causes waves and waves of well-being, uses her wonderful tone of voice and her vocal personality that reveals to a good listener, her wonderful personal characteristics, a rare and happy human being.

WOW WOW Angelina Jordan is the epitome of a Storytelling ARTIST, and she has the ability to take us by the hand and lead us down an imaginary path that we visualize as reality. The remarkable fact is that we experience this in each of her performances

What a wonderful performance. She will be getting requests for this for decades to come, no doubt right through her career! A relaxed and perfect reprise of her AGT performance of an iconic song. I still can't get over the fact that a 13 year old saw the possibility and potential for this incredible arrangement. Well done Angelina!!!! Thanks for the professional analysis too.

your observations are always a surprise to me... it's like, hey, did you hear/see this? No, I didn't but now I do. I'm going to clap myself on the back for this though, you touched on her purposeful breathing between notes and I'd like to think "I" picked up on that like 3 years ago. (Jus saying)😎

Great reaction and analysis Jesse! This was Angelina's first performance on stage since AGT about 2.5 years earlier. This venue is a fortress near the border between Norway and Sweden. This annual event is called the sing along at the border. People are given the lyrics and encouraged to sing along. There were many artists performing but for this performance, I didn't see anyone in the crowd singing. They were captivated and drawn in to each note Angelina sang.

Great analysis again. You made a great point when you mentioned AJ's use of negative space. This is all a part of the picture she paints and she understands how that sort of phrasing assistance helps the total picture. In her rendition if suspicious minds, if you listen to the second verse, where she is walking and then sitting down, at 5:53, she holds the words just a little longer than the timing of the music would have dictated. That good old negative space was there again. For folk who don't or who cannot hear AJ, it is a bit like a well designed page of print. The white space around the print is what allows the design to breathe and show the inherent artistic beauty behind the chosen design elements. AJ is a phenomenal artist and she brings joy and happiness to all who can hear her. She is grounded in a very good place and that is what shines through her performances.

Jesse, I'm glad you're catching the lives from this summer. You can hear how her voice has changed since age 13. Yes, the wind was unaccounted for when she went with that style. I love how you describe what is going on musically here. And, yes, the use of negative space. 💜

Great, great point about AJ's use of negative space. IMO that's one of the most fascinating things about her performances. As I've often said, AJ actually BREATHES on pitch. And you're right -- there's so much INTENTION in her singing. But at the same time, she makes it all seem so spontaneous. It's just weird how tuned in and connected she is to the song in every possible respect.

Yup that's my favorite. So good I try not to watch it a thousand times a month just to preserve it, just in case. Even though she always has replay value, often uncovering things you didn't catch before because of her vocal complexity and difficulty. Both this voice of hers, one of her thousand as they say, and the whole skillset and perfection delivered. Live.... Her recent session with sugar foot delivered two of her other best, Billy Jean and I have nothing, just lounging around, but she went real hard in more ridiculously beautiful voices of hers. Techniques and keys, choices, is what these voices are I guess, but it works. And this performance still stands a top, her belt and runs around it are actually factually the most beautiful sound ever created I'd have to assume, it somehow likely isn't even subjective despite the nature of that conversation. Great job noting her breathy abilities, she has that so nuanced and controlled, no one can do so much degrees of breathiness, her light breathiness with still crystal clarity, in mixed or chest voice is not something that should exist, if it does it shouldn't exist in a kid that also mastered the strong majority of other techniques as well. The way she can mix and match varying degrees of fry, vibrato, breathiness and apply multiple techniques at a time even in so many ways is wild. That, her fry and vibrato is like a dial for her, quick, stretched out, combined, whatever she wants, across her whole range. Doesn't make sense, the amount of freely creating and exploring with her vocals she must have done every day since she was 2 must be outlandish. Do we honestly have any comparables? If they exist do we not know them because they lack an artistry that stuck, or a beautiful voice? Or do I need to give someone out there a proper listen that I didn't? The skillset, control, beauty in voice, artistry is a nonsense combination I don't think is possible, but here we are with a kid, bonkers. She's so good you can finally risk learning about vocals without fearing losing that feeling of magic from the unknown and unexplainable. Edit, favorite is a strong word, favorite vocals, her originals obviously mean more since she wrote them, they are her message more so, and brilliantly executed. All I ask, Easy on me, My funny valentine, I'd rather go blind, of course are among the best as well. Some like wicked game and million years ago, stay, born to die were so suitable to her at the time with her chosen techniques and worked insanely well in a moving way as well. A handful even younger were age consideringly more impressive as well.

Another great AJ reaction, Jesse. Thanks for the insightful comments, as usual. A lot of folks have something of a hard time admitting how good this one is b/c the 2020 AGT Champions performance at age 13 was just so emotional and perfect and many of us have listened to it hundreds of times. This one, at age 16, is also perfect and - I think - more difficult vocally. And that makes perfect sense; she's just getting better and better and better. Can't wait for the age 19 version. 😇

Yes, I've listened to the AGT 13yo performance so many times and, at first, I was a little disappointed with this performance. However it is growing on me. I think Angelina is a true creative jazz influenced artist who always does new tweaks and flourishes every time she performs.
@Owen_S.
@Owen_S. Жыл бұрын
@@brucecumming8803 Absolutely, Bruce. There's always some tension between wanting to hear favorites performed just as you love them vs. the reality that somebody like Angelina (well, there's really nobody just like Angelina, but I just mean in the "jazz singer" sense of the phrase) is going to do just what you indicated and make minor to even major changes each time she sings a particular song. Growing up with jazz and learning to play it makes it easier for me to not get too invested in any one version of a song, but, yeah, Angelina is so good that the first time you hear her tackle a song, that one becomes the benchmark. Scary good.

Only been 10 days and already wondering when you would be back. Thanks for another great AJ reaction. So few reactors can hear and dig into the nuts & bolts, topped by your visible appreciation. Each rendition is different and yet they are all wonderful. Angelina singing makes me think of Monet’s painting series (haystacks, churches, etc.). Every time she sings a song, she paints the same subject with slightly different colors; and every rendition varies in appearance but is equally a masterpiece.
