also btw a theory about credence's obscurus is that Dumbledore's sister, Ariana had an obscurus but when she died, the obscurus attached itself to credence instead and starting living on him like a parasite. usually kids with obscurus's don't live more than 10 i think but credence was a miracle and lived longer. also credence is secretly aberforth's son hehe

Fantastic Beast and where to find them is a textbook students at Hogwarts are required to have for the Care of Magical Creatures subject (one of the Five subjects of choice at Hogwarts, years 3 to 7). Events in this movie start taking place in the USA around November 1926, Voldermort was born on December 31, 1926 in London. Frank is a Thunderbird, they can create storms, and Thunderbird is also the name of one of the 4 houses at IIvermorny.

The Obscurial as I understand it is all the pent up magical energy when young wizards or witches are forced to repress their magic whether consciously or not. Like when you bottle all your emotions and then all of a sudden you explode and have a breakdown, but with magic and explosions basically. Harry could have developed one easily if you think about it but for various reasons he got lucky I guess

Harry's magic was starting to reveal itself. If Vernon got his way and Harry never met Hagrid he likely would have been suppressed and developed an obscurial. Probably one major reason Dumbledore was so persistent in contacting Harry with all those owls, to the point of sending Hagrid.

Yeah that's only in the third fantastic beasts movie. It doesn't do that in any other movie or in any of the books. I guess the effects of memory-wiping rain is not as strong as the spell and Jacob went through quite a lot so the effect could just fade out when he faces a trigger like seeing Newt or the metal eggs. But then again, the movies haven't been too consistent with it's spells and the FB series isn't really for those that want to get into Wizarding World lore.

The books make many things in this movie make more sense. Newt’s book is an integral part of the Hogwarts curriculum by the time Harry and Co. are at Hogwarts, Hagrid teaches a class about nifflers explaining their love of valuables and Grindelwald and who he is and how important a historical figure he is are a few of the things the books give that the films leave out.

It’s been confirmed in canon that there are 11 total major wizarding schools in the world of Harry Potter. These are registered under the International Confederation of Wizards. 8 of the total 11 have been named. These are: Beauxbatons Academy of Magic in France, Castelobruxo in Brazil, Durmstrang Institute in the northern most regions of Norway or Sweden, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry as we all know located in Scotland, Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in USA specifically Massachusetts and accepts students from across North America, Koldovstoretz in Russia, Mahoutokoro in Japan and Uagadou in Uganda Africa. The last remaining 3 major schools have not yet been identified but Jk did hint in a tweet one of them is in Australia and as an Australian I love that

@@liaistotallyfine I love all these movies, just mostly the first one. This one feels like a standalone to me, so I'll always have a grudge against the sequels for... existing, I guess, but I'll try to not let that get in the way here, and explain why I believe people don't like them, including myself. Movies 2 and 3, in my opinion, fell a bit flat because nothing major really happened in either of them, especially 2. I feel that, if they had both been combined into one movie and been adjusted to fit the 3-act format that way, it would've worked better. Tina also barely appears in either of them, which was probably a kneejerk reaction to people finding her annoying, but I think that was a bad decision because my favorite scenes in both 2 and 3 are the ones where Newt and Tina interact. Their chemistry is definitely there, just different, which fits with their characters better: they're both kind of socially awkward, especially Newt. The second one just felt hard to follow for me, with all the twists and turns of Credence's story not being presented super well. Leta's sacrifice was also completely pointless and not earned, unless the SCB theory is right and she did cast the same sacrificial love magic as Lily did; until that's confirmed though, it remains stupid in my eyes. The third one was also twisty and mildly confusing, and yes, that was Dumbledore's whole plan, but there have to be less confusing ways to convey it. Also, some parts were literally just filler to pad the runtime; see Thesius's breakout and Bunty making lots more cases at a Muggle shop for no reason when there's a spell to do so. It also seemed to me that they were using the third one to patch up the parts people didn't like about the second, such as why Dumbledore never mentioned Aurelius to Harry in the false King's Cross (which, to their credit, they did make that work decently well. Aurelius wouldn't be relevant to the parts of Dumbledore's story that he told Harry.) All in all, I like the third one bettrr than the second by a slim margin, but I just really think the execution was sloppy. Other than that, they'd have been fine!

Nifflers are attracted to shiny metallic objects, they are used to find gold as porks are used to find truffles. Nifflers can penetrated sealed spaces like... a safe or a closed door. (Harry and co used one to penetrate Umbridge's office in Order of the Phoenix, in the book). Apparently, their marsupial pouch is like a extension charm of Hermione's bag, they can hold a LOT of things... Muggle is more of a Wizard's British slur for No Majs, they used to say the same word before using the slur. Most countries use the same kind of expression as "No Maj". Non Magique in French, their slur being "Sans Charme" or "Charmless". Thunderbirds come from America. Ever heard of a Ford Thunderbird??? They are in native American Indian Myths They are cousins of Phoenixes in the HP verse. Erumpant horn, there was one in the Lovegood house, Hermione shot on it to create a diversion to allow them to escape the Death Eaters and Snatchers from Voldemort. They contain a highly explosive substance even years after the animal is killed. Here, the Erumpant uses it to put a tree on fire while resisting its own heat... Queenie is a natural Legilimens. Legilimency usually requires enormous concentration but is learned with time and effort. Some wizards have that capacity from birth and are usually autistic due to the uncontrollable nature of that power, plunging them into everybody's thoughts without control. Not to mention that you cannot hide secrets from them... Ariana Dumbledore, his dead sister was an Obscurial, the repressed her magic after she was attacked by three Muggles, her father killed them in revenge and was sent to Azkaban. Later one of those uncontrollable obscurials strokes killed her mother Kendra, leaving Albus and Aberforth alone to take care of her. Albus was too busy getting clever at school and ambitious on the world's destiny to really care, until Grindelwald got involved (it is better explained in Deathly Hallows book). Tina's full name is Porpentina. Ilvermnorny wizarding school is in Massachusetts. FYI lbus Dumbledore was born in 1881 and died in HBP movie in 1997. MACUSA is for the whole USA magical community, the equivalent to the British wizards Ministry of Magic. The movie is based on the book written by Newt and was supposed to ne a magical animal documentary which could have been fine in itself. But WB thought it would be too expansive and not profitable enough and wanted a story built around it, hence why those movies are very umbalanced and not that well thought of. And contrary to HP books summerized into movies by a dedicated screenwriter, Rowling wrote the script herself and you can really feel the way she presents things, it is exacly as she does it in the books, that didn't really bother me, on the contrary but it can bother some people. Personnally, I would have been fine with a series of documentaries (unfortunately the new format of media that could allow that now so trendy didn't exist at the time) AND a prequel story to HP. WeeBee saw short term only and that killed the franchise, they made only 3 out of 5 movies.

Im guessing you're a fan so I'd like to share something that you may have not known. Remember Oin from Hobbit, the one that has a hearing problem. He dies to that massive octopus/kraken thing (its called the watcher in the books) in lotr 1 outside of mines of moria. The book of mazarbul mentions it when Gandalf was reading it. And it's kinda crazy, coz the watcher lives in the water but it can't be on a creature of Morgoth because they despise the water (coz the music of the ainur is said to be mostly in the water and obviously they're despising that as they are Morgoth's enemies and the song was something he tried to manipulate). So the watcher is an immensely powerful being that isn't on either side and Gandalf when talking about it implies it to be older than orcs which means it's existence would be before Morgoth turned those elves into the first orcs so in the first age. Meaning they encountered another OP beast apart from Durin's bane that made it out of the first age into the third age, which is pretty crazy.

I love your reaction!!! I have read the books many times for the past 15 years so here it is a little explanation so you can go better prepared for the next one. I'm a little late to this so I don't know if it has already been explained but here it goes. Obscurials are children who have tried to repress their magic and eventually develop an obscurus, which in itself is like a parasite that cannot live whiteout its host, in the original saga it was implied that Dumbledore's sister Ariana was an obscurial (even tho they didn't put a name to it until this movie). Credence being 18 was something unheard of as the oldest obscurial ever encounter until that point was no more than 10, they tend to die young as a result of their condition. Given that Credence could control it to a point was impressive. Johny Depp's character Geller Grindelwalt was the dark wizard of this age, kinda like Voldemort was for Harry, He was mentioned briefly in the original saga as the person who possessed the elder wand before Dumbledore. In the books it is stated that Dumbledore became friends and fell in love with Grindelwald when they were 17 but after Dumbledore realized that he was a little crazy and his sister died (in a duel between Dumbledore, his brother Aberforth and Grindelwald) they parted ways. They dueled in 1945 in an internationally famous battle where Dumbledore was victorious, he got the elder wand, and Grindelwald was sent to prison. And finally Newt, yes most of what he knows about the magical creatures was self taught, he was the first magizoologist, and after his book was published he became more respected as by the time Harry goes to Hogwarts it is part of the curriculum. Some of the creatures in this movie were mentioned and described in the original saga like the nifflers, and the bowtruckles, and some were made for this movie.

Ange, Credence is an Obscurus (or Obscurial) because he is a wizard, but, for the most part of his life, he forced himself to hide and restrain his magical powers, afraid of prosecution and bigotry he would endure in the Muggle world, specially from the woman who he thought was his mother.

Rowling wrote (at least) two thin books as fundraisers for Harry's Books at Comic Relief. (Though the page no longer works.) One was Fantastic Beasts & Where To Find Them by Newt Scamander - with a property of Harry Potter sticker on the cover. It's cute and informative in the way that textbooks are. (The other book that I know of is Quidditch Through The Ages by Kennilworthy Whisp.)

Fantastic Beasts isn't based off of a novel. It is an in universe textbook that Hogwarts students study. It is a real book, however, and is basically an In Character extended universe companion book for the Potterverse. That's why Rowling wrote the script, because there wasn't a story written by her for someone else to do a script adaptation.

The time period is great and very interesting. I loved the first movie, but the whole series seems to change its mind on what it is supposed to be about. It's not about Newt, nor fantastic beasts really, it's Dumbledore and Grindlewald. It's like J.K. wanted to tell a story about magical animals, but the studio , or whomever, was all, "Well the source material for Fantastic Beasts isn't enough to fill five movies and people really want a story about Dumbledore and Grindlewald, which is far more interesting."

Dumbledore died at age 115, about to turn 116. He died in 1996. Dumbledore was probably born in 1880. The first 2 movies are in the 1920s, which means he's in his 40s in them. The 3rd movie is in the early 30s, he's around 50.

@@xxprettylittlethings what about the blood pact. That is a massive part of FB2 and FB3 that doesn't fit at all. The blood pact was revealed to literally strangle and squeeze Dumbledore in FB3 if he even thought about moving against Grindelwald. However, this doesn't match the 3 way duel happening which resulted in Ariana's death. We know Grindelwald disappears after that 3 way duel and the blood pact was explained to be something they made in case one of them decided not to carry on with their mission, meaning both were together at the time. This means that the blood pact was formed before Grindelwald disappeared and both were still together. However, this doesn't make sense because if the blood pact was formed before this 3 way duel, no such duel should be able to happen because both their pacts should do that squeeze/strangle thing on both of them, preventing them from fighting each other or even thinking of it. However, we know the duel took place and killing spells were fired from their wands hence Albus not being sure who killed Ariana which would only be possible if he was also using a spell that could have killed her. This is a massive inaccuracy.

Crimes of Grindlewald was a bit of a mess story-wise...theres about 5 different plot lines all happening at once and some of them aren't even relevant to the story/serving the plot so its kind of a struggle tbh. But Secrets of Dumbledore relaxed a bit with the cramming in of plot lines so it was better in my opinion. Worth checking them both out tho.
