it's an amazing story. so glad I eventually decided to check one of these games out. First game in a very long time I have played every single day since I got it. I can't put it down. I find myself staying up till after 5:00 every day, then going to bed and still trying to get up early so I don't waste the day. If this was my own life, I'd just be in bed. ha ha.

Its timing was impeccable, overall, both for fans and for the company. I've heard many reports that animal crossing has easily blown away every other game in the switch's history for release weekend sales. I'm hoping it'll overtake pokemon and serve as a good example of a game done well getting the success it deserves.

It was delayed to fill the gap in releases has right now. The game could've been released in November or December of last year.

@@dexter111344 One, you should never make assumptions about how things are going for a game's development. Outside perception doesn't give a good idea of how development really is. We all thought Metroid Prime 4's development was going well, right up until they announced they were scrapping it and starting over. You weren't there, so saying "it was for X reason," like it's fact, and not even stating a modifier like "I believe" etc, is pretty foolish if you ask me. Thirdly, delaying a game is never good for your reputation, so it isn't worth doing unless it is absolutely needed. Fourth and finally, the first 3 months of the year are the worst for retail, because of the holidays. Pushing a release into that territory, deliberately, unless you have to is foolish. They just got lucky because of the unfortunate circumstances.

​@@stevenn1940 Just because you typed a lot doesn't detract from Animal Crossing being delayed solely because Nintendo has a severe drought of games for the Switch during the first part of this year and this being used to try to fill that void. The game's been done for several months. Do you know what killed the Wii U? It wasn't a bad launch, the Wii U actually sold out of the launch inventory fairly quickly. It was the dredge of games that came afterwards. Nintendo had nothing from launch until the late summer. Nintendo learned from their mistake and now is trying to prevent there from being such a large gap. That's why they delayed New Horizons, to fill in this current gap. Animal Crossing is an evergreen title and will perform well as long as the system it's on is doing well. With the upcoming releases of the PS5 and Xbox S Series, Nintendo had to make sure it looked as though the Switch was continuously being supported without a major drought slowing down sales of the console itself. It's the moment the sales decline that the console dies. Nintendo knows this. The delay of Animal Crossing had nothing to do with development and everything to do with maintaining steady sales of the system during what is a pretty empty patch of time. Ports of Wii and Wii U games wouldn't have been enough.

Clearly the game *isn't* done yet. And Nintendo has had larger gaps in releases before, like last year, but hey. If you want to believe that they were just sitting on a completed game, doing absolutely nothing, when they could have been making truckloads of money much sooner, because of your conspiracy theory, go ahead.

I was able to get back in contact with my high school friends this year. A lot of them I hadn’t spoken to in several years, but chatting again was easy and a couple of times a week we’d talk over discord in VC. Now with New Horizons out we’re talking every day to help each other find the fossils we need, take advantage of each other’s weather patterns and swap items. A really amazing game for bringing people together.

@@LeifyTV-n4d in New Horizons you can terraform, place all furniture outside, and make your own paths. There is less base content which is unfortunate for more casual players, but if you like decorating your island, than New Horizons is better than New Leaf. If you like relaxing and just hanging out in Animal Crossing and not decorating so much, then New Leaf is better. Also New Horizons will be getting major updates for the next couple years, so it’s pretty likely that we will get those missing buildings/shops.

LaughinElf City Folk is just higher quality Wild World ;). The only thing I don’t like about CF/WW is how some of the tracks don’t always fit the time of day. But yeah it’s a great soundtrack

Streko Rodriguez City Folk is my second favorite soundtrack, but New Leaf definitely matches the time of day better. But I think GameCube matches every hour perfectly. It’s got a ton of my favorites in the series (12-3 AM, 7-9 AM, 12 PM, 2 PM, 5 PM, 7-9 PM, and 11 PM). I think the only track that was annoying in the GameCube version was 3 PM lol. As a whole it’s still my fav :)

It would have been a piece of cake for Nintendo to have made HHD more traditionally game like without significantly hampering player freedom. I'm not sure that would have made it a better game, however, just one that better suits a different audience than the one HHD seemed to be going for, and there's always the Professor Oak Is A Bad Judge Of Photo Quality problem that any such evaluation scheme that sort of thing uses can run into (Though the HHA one seemed to be alright, at least as of New Leaf, I haven't looked up if it's changed in New Horizons)

I don't think City Folk (As a European, I refuse to call it Let's go to the City. American short hands are sometimes a blessing) was a bad idea. It was simply 2 problems that killed it: - The city wasn't big enough. If you are going to make us go somewhere, it should have hours upon hours of it's own content available. You could literally see all there was to see in 10 minutes, and you only needed to go back to buy/get things, which could make it feel tedious. - It was on the Wii. The Wii controller was a nightmare to use, and it wasn't mobile like the DS, the main reason people bought animal crossing, to take it on long journeys. Also, my dad hogged the TV, which didn't help. If it had been on the DS, I think it would have at least gotten a little less flack than it did.

Happy Home Designer was actually a solid game. If I am not mistaken, it surpassed 3 milliom copies sold. Also .. I still don't understand how people can feel dissapointed with Pocket Camp. It is a lovely game and it did well financially in the smartphone market. It doesn't make ANY sense to expect a game similar to the console iterations on a smart phone.
