That's really just a bias towards what you enjoy more in a given piece of art. It's not impossible for someone to like animated works more for the visual art than the narrative art, thus they can easily watch something just for the amazing craftsmanship in that went into drawing/animating it. Most people (especially critics, since they themselves are writers) pay more attention to the story, but that bias does not apply to everyone. Anyway, this doesn't really apply to Kora as it is not nearly arthousy enough and probably too long to warrant the attention of the few people who do actually prefer the visual aspects of animation.

The part I hate most about Korra suddenly air bending is that she first did so by throwing a punch. I have never seen Aang airbend by punching. Airbending is free flowing, light and effortless in nature and the powerful, aggressive body language of a punch is so opposite to that. Fire and Earth bending use punches because those elements are powerful and willful. Air is not an element that uses punching period.
@Obi-Wan_Kenobi
@Obi-Wan_Kenobi 6 жыл бұрын
Foundations and motivations of martial arts stay consistent. Fundamentals and philosophies of bending do not change. Besides, Korra learned Airbending from Tenzin meaning that she should have taking on his style which he directly learned from Aang. The Last Airbender make a very real effort and succeeded in making every bending style unique, giving ever move meaning and purpose that aligned with their respective type of bending. Korea has no right to throw all that away and substitute careful choreography with generic punches.

One of my biggest problems with Korra is how the Avatar State is handled. Whenever Aang entered the Avatar State, it is in a dramatic, important moment (i.e. The air temple and Monk Gyatso, protecting Katara at the Earth fort, fighting Ozai, Azula in Ba Sing Se, The North Pole) However, Korra uses the avatar state with more freedom, occasionally doing it for the sake of doing it. Avatar plays the avatar state as an unpleasant, dangerous experience, so every time Aang uses it, the scene has weight and consequences, but Korra used it just to win a race with Jinora and Ikki.
@Gamelover254
@Gamelover254 6 жыл бұрын
That's because Aang had no control over the Avatar state until the final episode. The reason it had more weight is because he couldn't control it and could die at any moment he was in it. The Avatar state is only meant to make your eyes glow once and boost your power for a bit, not to be a vengeful god. Also, she literally only used it jokingly once to win a race. Every other time she used it, it was to help people or defeat villains.
@kayoyoh6725
@kayoyoh6725 6 жыл бұрын
Aang's lack of control over the avatar state was what made it interesting. It would feel weird for the main character to have a free god-mode from the start, so it's introduced as more of a hindrance to Aang than a benefit, because since he doesn't have control, he doesn't want to use it because he thinks he might hurt people. Meanwhile, Korra, who apparently was lacking in terms of the spiritual side of bending, can avatar state whenever she wants, removing a lot of weight from the scenes where she uses it. For example, I can list most of the scenes in Avatar where Aang avatar states, but I can hardly remember when Korra used it. I'm not saying they should have drawn out a storyline about Korra's struggle with it, because they did that in Avatar. I just think that with the second book being called "spirit" and all, that would have been a nice time to introduce the avatar state.
@Asher17

The Rava crap was just a retcon. In the good series they said that the avatar state was fueled by the avatars connection to their past lives. The rava state is such crap because it seems just as powerful, if not more so, yet does not have the boost from the past lives......Beginnings was the worst thing to ever happen to avatar.
@Asher17
@Asher17 6 жыл бұрын
I like how you assume that I only hate on it because it's part of Korra, it implies I only hate LOK because it isn't ATLA......rather than the truth that I hate LOK because it's trash. Trust me, Rava would have ruined ATLA for me...it's just so stupid. It cheapens everything about the avatar and the series itself. Thank the gods that Bryke had someone competent to rein in their bad ideas in the good avatar series.....show would have been as bad as Korra is otherwise.

Yoora Earth and Fire bending is perfect for Korra’s personality. She’s stubborn and solid in the face of any situation like a rock, and she rash and explosive like fire. The calming and go with the flow personality style of water and air bending goes directly against her personality. Seeing her to struggle with those elements would of been a believable and interesting plot point.

The biggest problem I have with Korra, and the animation industry as a whole, is that this show is presented as the mature one. This show, with the childish characterization, stupid love triangles and scooby doo villains(zaheer excluded) is considered the mature one because it has a darker tone in animation and graphic violence. Avatar is put down because "dur cartoons are kids shows" even though it tackles issues and deals with its characters in a way that makes it 10 times more mature than Korra. A hundred even

The thing that really brought this home for me was when Korra used some "spirit magic" of something and suddenly there were airbenders all over the place. That does NOT make it better. Tv Maniac It’s like they just backtracked everything that made the original show interesting because Aang isn’t there. The screenwriters basically decided that the only reason the Air Nomads had to be gone was because Aang WAS “The Last Airbender”. If Aang is gone they figured “what the heck, we can do whatever we want now! I think the pro bending actually could make sense in the story. I like your version of Korra is unable to bend water, being bullied and starts to bend fire. During her isolation - which is a "slightly" overdone attempt of the White Lotus to not lose the avatar again - she learns fire, earth and water, but not air because it's surprisingly hard to find air teachers. And at this point she is a trained fighter which works against the air philosophy. The pro bending becomes important because despite being from the water tribe, water is still her weakest element, but since she is only allowed to use water, she finds it a good way to practice. But the pro bending reinforces her fighter-like personality, countering anything she learns in the air temple.

not explaining what happened to Jet wasn't a "mistake". They deliberately left it where they did, and they heavily implied that Jet died, but I just don't think they were allowed to show his actual death.
@feraflauna3238
@feraflauna3238 6 жыл бұрын
+robert presley-I don't think leaving Jet's death ambiguous was a mistake either. After all, it was implied pretty heavily that he did die: he told Katara he was going to be all right and Toph knew he was lying, his friends decided to stay behind with their friend until the end and refused to leave him, even if they would die too. In fact, I'm okay with Jet's death being left that way to where Sokka muses in The Ember Island Players that, "No one knows for sure (what happened.)" It's a nice, subtle way to dodge censorship while still playing the game and people who look deeper know that Jet never left that "submarine." He may have fought to the end and died with his fists swinging but he still died all the same. The one thing I do think was a huge mistake was never revealing what happened to Zuko's mother. Unlike Jet, whose fate was pretty well determined, Ursa was established to still be alive in the final episode of The Last Airbender. Zuko demands his father finally tell him where his mother is and. . . nothing happens of it. In fact, when Katara's grandkids ask her the same thing, she just brushes it off that, "It's a long story." Explanation DENIED and never given a proper story. I know some people will point to the comics that reveal what happened to Ursa but first of all, it's in the comic and not the actual tv show(s). I shouldn't have to comb through various materials until I find an answer that should've been explained in the actual show. Also, I hope I'm not the only one who was incensed over what they did in that comic where it's nearly as bad as anything Korra did. It was explained that Zuko's "real father" is not the firelord, but rather, just some random dude. It completely negates and spits right in the face of everything Zuko struggled for throughout the series-the son of a firelord who could never appease and earn the love of his own father like he wanted, the firelord who is a vindictive, conniving man. Not to mention it completely washes away the real struggle when Zuko learned he was the son of Firelords but also a descendant of Avatar Ruko. Essentially, he had both good and evil inside him but it was up to him to decide which path he wanted to follow. Eventually, he decided that despite that they shared blood, the firelord wasn't his father and he decided to escape the shadow his own father made for him. All of which from that comic is destroyed. Gone. Obliterated. Zuko never had to worry about a thing, all that guilt and weight from his father's legacy removed. Screw you guys.

"Chekhov's Gun is a concept that describes how every element of a story should contribute to the whole." That pretty much sums up Avatar: The Last Airbender. One of my favourite Avatar episodes is The Boiling Rock. Prior to that episode, they already established that Suki was in prison. When the warden is introduced, he brags about the Boiling Rock's zero escapees record. He says he would rather be thrown in the boiling lake, than let one person escape. Later in the episode when he's being held hostage on the gondala, he tells his guards to cut the line, knowing full well that the boiling water would kill him. When Chit Sang is introduced, we see him being harassed by one of the guards. Later in the episode, the Warden is torturing Chit Sang in hopes that he'll reveal the identity of his accomplice. Chit Sang claims that he's not a squealer, so they continue torturing him. Eventually, Chit Sang gives in. He reveals the identity of his accomplice, but he was actually lying. The person he ratted out was actually the guard who was harassing him earlier. Chit Sang was getting revenge on him. Also, Azula says, "I'm a people person" in that episode. That line returns later when Azula confront's Mai about her treachery. Mai simply responds with, "I guess you don't know people as well as you think you do." The whole show is like this. They establish one thing and it always returns later. It's pretty great.

Thank you. This is exactly why I gave up on Steven Universe. It took them five seasons--two of them underwhelming--to *FINALLY GET TO WHITE DIAMOND'S* appearance. Star vs. did it in 3 seasons. I should not have to slog through slow filler to get to *YOUR THIRD AND MOST IMPORTANT VILLAIN.* It's a waste of time. And they redeem her. That's just perfect--because of the EXACT SAME REASONS. *spoiler* White gets redeemed via Deus Ex Machina and the "executive meddling" excuse.

BoatHouse I think I disagree. There are several shows that have slow first seasons that turn into great television. Agents of Shield, for instance has kind of a boring first season and it feels cliche, but everything after that escalated constantly, to the point where season four is one of the best seasons of television I’ve seen. Parks and rec is similar, they didn’t find their comedic footing until season two. LoK is not like those two examples because the first season ain’t just slow or boring, it’s bad. It doesn’t establish anything useful and it wastes your time with meaninglessness.

Jet is confirmed dead at the end of episode 17 of season 2 of Avatar. Nickelodeon doesn't want to show children being mortally wounded, so they had to keep his death vague with Toph saying that he was lying when he said he'd be fine.

Fake jet: "ARRGH NOoooooo" - Proceeds to hide under a cardboard rock Toph: Did jet just....die? Sokka: You know it was really unclear. It is however confirmed that jet died as you said. I think even with the limitations of nick they did a really great job at lending an emotional death scene, the impact of this (arrrow fellow, whatever his name was - I haven't watched those episodes in a while) speaking for the first time and toph getting emotional understanding the weight of the lie. It feels very real and I liked it - I would have liked a few seconds of silence after the gang left panning away from this though - it should give more impact.

How cool would amon have been if he was just a spirit bender? Remember how they said that to use spirit bending and remove a persons bending you had to bear your own force of will and prove that you were the stronger person? How awesome would it have been if amon was just a man who lost literally everything he had to live for because he wasn't as strong as a bender learning there was a way to take away bending but doing it might just kill him and he still takes the chance, like playing Russian roulette in an effort to make all people equal and in a sicker way to dominate and prove he was stronger than any bender he came across - leaving them as broken as they'd left him. He could've been a terrifying villain, one who didn't fear death and just wanted to cut others down from their precieved high horse

That wasn’t the only thing that Mr. Enter got wrong in the video. For example; not only did he say that didn’t Korra know what money was when she technically DID but he also said that the Fire Lord couldn’t bend lightning when we actually saw him use it to attack his own son almost immediately Zuko decided to teach Aang fire bending in order to help end the century-long-war. Although beyond that, this video still holds up, I’m poking fun at said mistakes.

The reason I like aang refusing to kill the firelord, is because one of the reasons he was considsring it was because the other avatars had to kill their enemies. Well he ends up doing something different and the result is the same, if not it's better. To me it's basically saying you don't have to do things cause that's how others do it, or it's done traditionally, people can think outside the box to do something that'll make them happy

I'm conflicted. I agree with Mr Enter that the last airbender avatar's line makes Aang seem selfish, but I feel him ignoring the other avatars shows that by the end of the series Aang isn't just the latest avatar, he is Avatar Aang, one with his own philosophy. Maybe it would worked if they took out that line.

Laxikan123 I've watched this review about 3 times just to confirm my opinions on this whole thing and Enter, and I disagree with him. I can argue that Aang wasn't being selfish in that moment, it's still reinforcing the philosophy that kids, or hell anyone, should be able to think, act and decide for themselves. You can see this example with Katara in the same series. In The Southern Raiders, she does not forgive Yon Rha, you know, the guy who killed Katara's mom. You'd think that someone like Katara would forgive and move on, but she doesn't forgive him. They don't say if this is a good choice or a bad one - it's just how she feels. The same way, it's just how Aang feels, he's decided that killing is not okay for him. So ask yourself, is that such a bad thing? Hell, another example. In the season 2 finale Korra decides to keep the portals open. It was her decision/choice to keep the portals open and that leads into season 3, where she explores the idea of it was really a good thing or not to keep them open, in the very first episode of that season. So anyway, in this case you can't simply state that Aang was selfish without this piece of context like Enter did. *Technically*, all choices can be selfish, but context matters. Situation matters. That's the whole point of teaching messages as complex as this. By the way it's normal to be conflicted lol. I was too! In my opinion this is just a morality question - there often is no right or wrong answer. The thing that Mr. Enter says though, I vehemently disagree with.
@ShinobiPXO
@ShinobiPXO 6 жыл бұрын
+Robert Han To be honest, that whole "not killing" angle didn't make sense. For one thing, what was Aang going to do to Ozai during the Eclipse? If he was just going to capture him, then that's still an option for later isn't? Why is killing the only solution? As soon as he got his AS back it was easy enough to restrain Ozai and then throw him in a prison cell. Hell, this is what they do for Azula who *still* had her bending. So, really, Aang didn't need to take Ozai's bending away to stop him
@neko221
@neko221 6 жыл бұрын
ShinobiPXO Honestly, it's not clear because it really boils down to a moral dilemma. I'm sure you know how tough those are to answer. I only have 2 plausible explanations that can somewhat explain that, although there'll never be a clear answer because people think different things. Here's what I still think after all these years The first is that Aang was prepared to fight Ozai during the Eclipse, but when the Invasion failed he pretty much broke down and lost confidence in himself, since he do see him bawling his eyes out at the very last moment he leaves with the youngest of the group on Appa. This is a weaker argument since, well, just look at the 2nd one lol The second is because of Zuko in the episodes following the invasion. During the Firebending Masters, they both travel to the ruins and attempt to learn firebending. You see Aang pretty timid and whatnot when he tries to get used to fire, and hell even Zuko points this out as they travel to the masters. The main episode that really ignites the bonfire though is during the Southern Raiders. When and before Katara leaves on Appa with Zuko, Aang talks about how violence and revenge is not the correct path to go on, and that it's forgiveness that one should take. The very end of that episode ends with that same moral dilemma Zuko instigates. And then you see more of that in Sozin's Comet Part I to Part II.

So quick question. This might sound stupid, but If the creators wanted so badly to create something completely different from the original Avatar, _then why did they even make a sequel?_ I guess the world it established left a lot to experiment with, but they practically change the whole world with the 1920s aesthetics, different treatment of aspects of the original, etc. The bending aspect is one of the only things that remains, and the metal/lightning/ability bending also throws that a bit out of whack. I’m asking as a person who grew up with the original show as my favorite cartoon. I’m legitimately curious.

+Nocktuk Daze-Not with everything because everyone always assumes when it comes to this show that Nickelodeon was the only player that really f'd things up. And to be fair, Nickelodeon did sabotage this show every. single. chance it took: they weren't interested in a full series at first for whatever strange reason but wanted to milk the franchise some more, so they asked Bryke to make a 12 episode "mini-series." Then, while season one was planned out, suddenly, Nickelodeon wanted 14 more episodes. Eventually, they decided "what the heck" and gave the series two more seasons-26 episodes-after the early ratings for Legend of Korra were really good. . . . They suddenly became disinterested in the series around season two and the episodes were aired on sporadic days where no one was sure when it was going to air at all. Season three-someone involved in Nickelodeon's programming "accidentally" leaked three episodes of season three-episodes four-six-out of sequence and online where several people grabbed a hold of episodes four-six. Nickelodeon used the situation as an excuse to rush a promo and dumped the show in the middle of the summer without much attention or fanfare. The ratings were not good so Nickelodeon pulled the plug on the show entirely on physical tv and since they couldn't cancel season four, they aired the rest of the series online only. They cut the budget for season four to where the writers were forced to come up with a clip show in the middle of the season to save money. So Nickelodeon does earn its share of the blame for how TLJ turned out but they weren't responsible for how truly wretched that show is. Let's say the first season is its own standalone installment. A 12 episode mini series, while enormously difficult to pull off, is by no means impossible. Anime often does it all the time and does it much better and given how influenced by various anime the entire franchise is, it's almost shocking they didn't turn to anime for reference to do a good mini series.
@feraflauna3238
@feraflauna3238 6 жыл бұрын
+Nocktuk Daze-The first season is not very good. There's way too much going on to handle for 12 episodes, the pacing is awful, most noticeably in the later half, there's just no room to breathe at all, they focus on things that don't need to be focused on-the dumbass love triangle, Republic City political shmoozing, and pro-bending. Despite Bryke's insistence they cut out all filler for this series, season one had at least one shameless filler episode: dedicated entirely to pro-bending. And despite Amon's attack on the pro-bending arena, pro-bending did not contribute to the story in any real way and can be really chalked up to the fact "Bryke" wanted their own Qudditch. It was simply a waste of time and took up way too much "real estate" for a 12 episode story. The last two episodes seem rushed and unfocused to where the end is unsatisfying, to say the least. Amon is defeated not by Korra but by his own brother deciding to commit suicide for no reason-feeling bad about what he did when he was just a smug, powerhungry prick before. And somehow, they thought it was a great idea to end the "series" (at the time) with a massive deus ex machina where everything is reset, Korra gets everything she wants, and sacrifices nothing in return-and gets everything SHE DIDN'T EARN. Not in any way. And that was just the first season. It just got way worse from there. There were so blatant plot holes and inconsistencies just in season one, some of which "Bryke" seemed to be well aware of (Tenzin re-establishes bloodbending can't remove anyone's powers, but. . .Amon's bloodbending can. . .because we said so)-I remember hearing (but could be wrong) that Amon was somehow telepathic and could read minds. These are easy things someone who cared wouldn't have missed and would've been ashamed to leave in. The truth is, and the very sad fact of the matter, is that the end of the day, very few people involved with this series cared-Nickelodeon didn't and Bryke hardly did either. There is so much George Lucas-ing in this series that it makes me physically sick and there are some of the most mind-numbing, baffling stupid things I've ever seen in a tv show. Bryke should be ashamed of this, this series all but spits in the face of everything the original stood for, and even on its own, it's just plain BAD television.

Re: your point about the metal bending "armor". I just finished the series again last night and had this exact same thought. Whenever Suyin fights Kuvira, she bends the metal onto herself as protection.....against another metal bender..... Why?! Who let that idea slide? Kuvira constantly uses metal to restrain people, even other metal benders like Suyin, Lin, Korra, etc. It was also extremely frustrating how rarely earth bending was used efficiently and effectively. Lin keeps using the metal cables over and over against the mecha tanks and the Equalists who have clearly used electricity over and over....so dumb. Didn't even think about the heating of the metal armor as well. Bolin and Korra fought people countless times where earth bending could have trapped people (in or out), could have thrown the mecha tanks off balance and made them useless, AND Bolin could have even used it to block the spirit portal so that Unalaq couldn't get in for at least a little while. Yet none of this ever happens or is considered because the characters are made to be stupid in order to move the plot along. ATLA was great about using simple but clever tactics with bending that would surprise you. They would also play by these rules after establishing them so all of the tension from fights always felt consistent and you knew what the possibilities were. In TLOK, all of the characters just start launching items at the enemies over and over, miss, and get their asses kicked. It got so old to see literally all of them be so incompetent in every single season. I'm pretty sure Korra didn't win a single fight, ever.

Your suggestion that she have problems with water bending, and only realizing she's the Avatar after her peers were expertly splashing their powers around, was a really good one. Like, maybe people generally start bending when they're around 7, and she didn't start bending at all until she was 12. Then afterwards, she worked her ass off to be as good as she is in series. But still. No water bending. It would have given her more connection with the Equalist movement even as she tries to distance herself from memories of being pushed around as a kid. She wouldn't want to remember that weakness or humiliation, so she over-compensates by being just as much of a shit bender as Amon claims she is.

Your comment got me thinking. When does a person start showing an aptitude towards bending? Starting as babies seems too dangerous by an 'evolutionary' standpoint (for lack of a better term) so it would have to be when they're a bit more conscious of their world. Katara was known to water bend when she was little (4?5? I stink at gauging ages by sight and animation is even worse) so it can't be that old. And does the bending start up all at once? Partially? Does the person have to purposefully try to bend or will it come naturally/accidentally? This would have been great a chance for the creators to show a bit more of the lore and open more possibilities of mixed bending families.
@minsengo
@minsengo 5 жыл бұрын
@@jendoe9436 I've been curious about that at times too. I never really cared about the lore of the Avatar's origins, but I did have an interest as to what determines someone's ability to bend. i think it was confirmed in the original that while bending is a genetical thing,the ability is not nessesarily bound to the genetics of the person themselves(you can only be a bender if you have benders in your family,but you might not be a bender even if both your parents,your kids and your twin all are benders)
@jendoe9436
@jendoe9436 5 жыл бұрын
The twins is referring to the boys from "The Fortune Tell", correct? One boy could bend while the other couldn't. There were a mix of bender and non-bender families, though the type of bending was also focused on the Nation, except for the swamp benders who technically lived in the Earth Kingdom. We really didn't see any 'bender mixing' in the show until Aang and Katara's kids, then Mako and Bolin. I glanced at a comic line where an occupied Earth city was very mixed with Fire citizens, and the mayor's daughter and others considered herself both. I think she could bend, though I'm not sure I remember that correctly. Since the Avatar is the only one who can master all the Elements, does that mean a mixed offspring will carry the 'gene' for both until a later generation gets one? If say the later offspring has Earth, then could the Fire gene still be passed on to the direct next one? How long can a 'gene' for bending last? So far there's only been Earth and Fire mixed, since Air is/was endangered and the Water tribes seem to have kept to themselves. However, the nations are heavily based on their elements, so what would happen to the Earth kingdom if fire bending started popping up more. Would part of their culture end up changing? Would the bender feel like they belong? What happens if benders started warring with each other at the local level? Would issues be resolved by their birth nation or bending nation? Can a nation claim people based on the bending/heritage? Sorry if these questions seem weird, but the idea of exploring mixed bending families generations after the 100 year war would have been a much greater overall backdrop than whatever Korea was trying to go for.

My biggest issue with Korra was how it completely fucked one of the major rules of the Avatar State. I can't remember which book it was, and I don't know if you will bring it up in this video, but; In TLA we're told the Avatar State works by channeling the power of all the previous avatars through yourself. @feraflauna3238 6 жыл бұрын
+Dwight Lewis-Well, you probably know then that the original concept of the Avatar was that the Avatar was the reincarnation of the planet itself, and apparently, there are a few surviving materials that allude to this original concept. I pretty much just adhered to that explanation if I really wanted one before The Beginning episodes, because that still made a great amount of sense, so it was beyond baffling, to put it mildly, where Legend of Korra establishes ACTUALLY. . .the Avatar is a fusion of a human and a kite squid (spirit). I can't be the only one who believes just saying that is incredibly stupid and hopefully, people will have a lot of "fun" explaining that to ATLA fans who never saw Legend of Korra. Got to get it somewhere. As for Raava's connection to the Avatar State, what you said seems to be more and less what was established in Beginnings (it wasn't explained very well on top of it). Since Wan fused with Raava, he and his subsequent reincarnations are permanently fused to Raava, so in that sense, Raava "holds" all the past lives. And not only does the original power of the Avatar State come from her to where it's actually the Raava state (?????????), but since it was established she holds three of the bending elements inside of her, the Avatars actually relearn all the elements from her instead of her past lives. And as someone else brilliantly put it, if the Avatars just learn the elements from Raava, it makes a worldwide journey to seek out bending teachers utterly pointless. They have all their accessories already included, so to speak, so they never should need a teacher outside of Raava ever again.

Agreed. I feel like people are so focused on "gay representation" for some reason (when it wasn't even a thing 5-10 years ago) that it's literally the only thing they focus on. You'd think the 2% of the population that's gay was more like 10%. Here's the thing: I don't have a problem with people being gay in shows on rare occassions, since gay people do exist in real life (small minority but they do exist). I DO have a problem if it's like in Legend of Korra or Beauty and the Beast 2017, where it's shoehorned in for no reason other than "to be progressive" even if it makes no sense whatsoever. If you want to include a character who's gay, have it FIT INTO THE NARRATIVE of the movie/show/game, etc. and not just "shoehorned in to say that gay people exist". Steven Universe and Undertale are two that I can think of that do it well because it fits nicely into the narrative with the already established characters, especially with Steven Universe. Legend of Korra and Beauty and the Beast, not so much.
@bandotaku
@bandotaku 6 жыл бұрын
JoyStar, I can't disagree with Beauty and the Beast 2017, but I can with Legend of Korra. If we look at only the TV series as a whole, it was only subtly established up until the end when they pushed it just a little bit more. Also at the end they WERE NOT a couple, but you could tell that they may have shared feelings for each other. The writers have made it clear the KorrAsami is a thing, but they didn't say that they became a thing right then, just that it was going to happen (as evident by the graphic novel that recently came out). Why do you think it doesn't "fit the narrative" just because we haven't seen a gay character yet? The fact that it became a surprise for you probably means you don't know very many gay people, or at least read or listen to stories about how they knew they were gay. Very few know from an early age that they are gay. Most try liking the opposite sex, but it doesn't work out or feel right. Korra dated Mako and even went on a date with Bolin, but things didn't work out for them. However, the closest person she felt a connection with was Asami and then she started getting feelings for her. The show is far from perfect, but in this aspect, I can say that they did something right in the establishment of their relationship.

I have to disagree Joystar. You don't need a reason for a character to be straight so why do you need a reason for a character to be gay or in this case bisexual? Who says anyone needs to doubt their sexuality? These arguments make no fucking sense. Valid criticism on this point comes in only one form: is the written relationship between the two women strong enough to sustain the implied romance? Doesn't even matter if they built toward physical intimacy, if the emotional intimacy is strong enough it's a narratively valid (if unexpected) relationship. Same as when the hetero leads kiss at the end of any random-ass adventure movie. If the answer to the question is "no" then you get to complain that they "shipped" them for no reason but that's all, "gay for no reason" is not a thing, and neither is this made up idea that her choice of sexual partners is anything more than arbitrary in the event that she's gay. There's no more need of justification for that than there is that she has brown hair. What matters is the strength of the relationship they instigate. It's a completely sex-neutral fuck up to force a relationship that doesn't work into a story. Now I would not necessarily put it past them to fuck that up, but it *is* a completely different argument.

Hey moron, most of the population of any species NEEDS to be straight in order for there to be a surplus of breeding pairs to continue the species. Is that a good enough "reason" to be straight? The only reason we can support the existence of the gays as a species is because they're a minority and there are enough breeding pairs to make up for their inability to breed. And before you squeal "ADOPTION" like an angry piggy, the baby a gay couple adopts was made by a breeding pair. It doesn't matter who raises the infant, but there has to be a breeding pair in order for the infant to exist in the first place. Bi people don't really matter here, because they either fall into the category of "breeding pair" or "nonbreeding pair" depending on who they decide they want to stick around with and fuck.

21:04 Piggy-backing off of that idea, Korra being teased for not being able to bend would actually be a great starting point for her joining Amon. Think about it; She would know how it feels to be considered "beneath" benders, she'd understand how the non-benders felt. She'd see non-benders being oppressed and get angry about it because she knows how it feels. She could potentially have a really interesting moral dilemma where she agrees with and maybe even joins Amon. We could have potentially had a story where the avatar went bad and threw the world out of balance. It could have been so much more interesting.

I don't think White Darkness is only referring to continuity from the Last Airbender, but also a lack of continuity between the individual books of Korra. Book One ended with a massive euqualist movement that which completely disappeared by the start of Season 2. Tens if not Hundreds of angry Non-Benders who hate benders would not have all their anger and motivation to achieve "equality" dissipate so easily with no consequence. Another example is how stupidly the Korra learned Air-bending. The build up was super choppy to make room for the forced romantic subplot (and don't even gent me started on how inconsistent and pointless that was).

They could have easily given the character depth to Amon, and made him a far more interesting villain if they didn't make him a con-artist. Have him actually hate bending, be repulsed by his own abilities. The scar on his face? It's real but he wasn't burned by a firebender, he did it to himself. The we are shown that bending is an extension of a person, that taking it way is crippling to some people to the point that bending is such an important part to a characters identity that without it they could lose the will to live. A man who hates himself, hates bending, and what bending can be used to do to people, would be a great villain for the world of Avatar. Bending is almost like a select group of people are selected a birth to carry a loaded gun at all times, no matter what the age, with only their morals stopping them from using it. We are repeatedly shown that benders are superior (they tend to hold more power and have more advantages) through out the original series, for those to be striped away would pose some interesting situations. We only get glances of this before things are immediately resolved.

From a world-building standpoint, considering the tech level in the world overall, I was puzzled by the total lack of firearms or other projectile weapons like say, some sort of repeating crossbows or compressed-air powered something or rather. A fan of the show whom I mentioned this to remarked that the presence of such weapons in the show would wreck the story because then non-benders could just put a bullet or an arrow into a bender. Well wouldn't that actually be a *good* plot element? That benders are now having to come to terms with the fact that non-benders have developed technologies to put them on more equal footing in the lethality department, and that benders now no longer have the same monopoly on the use of force that they once had? You could even still run with the idea that guns/crossbows etc are *not* present in the Korra universe but have the reason be that benders are actively suppressing the development or possession of such technology by non-benders, which would also play into the idea of non-benders beginning to hate and resent benders, leading to the groundswell of support for the equalist movement.

natestubs1 I guess nobody ever developed any projectile weapons past throwing spears in the real world, since the fact that somebody had spears made it unneeded for everyone without spears to be able to deal distant death. Somebody having an advantage *drives* technology to level the playing field. Some group has bows? Their neighbors develop better bows or crossbows to defend against them/conquer them. Some group builds a defensive wall? Their neighbors build a weapon (cannon) that can blow a hole in it.

I also could not get behind the time period they set it in or the Americanized way they made the landscape. in the original series (the best series) we could see that technology was evolving, but there were still elements of things that needed to evolve. for example, the train system in Ba Sing Se. it looks like a subway system, but it is completely powered by earthbending. they found ways to create modern transportation, but with the simplest form of earthbending which is "move a rock". Even airships were powered by firebending to create hot air to lift the war-balloons, simple things that make sense in-universe. not all of it was electricity or tech, much of it only used simple bending techniques so that an average bender could perform them. with Korra's tech, the car eliminates bending, electric lights eliminate bending, multiple benders who could perform advanced substyles of bending with ease and for mundane use made the bending feel weak, and the lack of bending for everyday life, to make things easier, takes you out of the universe and makes you wonder whether bending is revered as a sacred art anymore or an extension of who these people are.

To me the introduction of Korra as the Avatar would have worked better if she was bending a pebble and a spark while acting super intense. It would still show her personality but also that she's just a 4 year old. About the firebending, her personality is more about using force than balance so more like fire than water making her have a personal preference to fire. It wouldn't make much sense of all avatars found the same thing, bending the opposite element, difficult. It's a trend not a law. But about the world building I agree. The police should wear hardened leather, it has no water in it, no rock and is relatively hard to set on fire.

@@3HorsemenOfMovingPictures Honestly I thought the 1920s was far to late a setting for Avatar. In the TV series Little House on the Prairie they had telephones before the 20 century. Party line telephones but still telephones. That would have been a better era to set Korra in. Michael Landon would have been a much better influence for Korra than M Night Shame A Lot.

*So after a lot of thinking and watching this video twice. Taking in consideration your suggestions* *The Legend of Korra Book One Rewrite.* We start with Korra as a little kid. She was taking a bit long in showing any Waterbending skills at all,she started to think that maybe she was a Non-bender. Let's use My Hero Academia logic,bending shows let's say at 4-7 years old,Korra is 10-12 and still *nothing.* Kids make fun of her for this,not all of them obviously,but some were extremely hurtful and cruel to her,straight up bullying her about not being able to bend at all. Korra ignores them until one day she snaps,and gets so mad she Firebends *and* Earthbends right there and then,scaring off her bullies. Since she's little she shows it to her parents with no shame,in fact,she's proud,she's not a Non-bender!! But of course bending more than one element means... *That.* The White Lotus is called and Korra is told she's The One™,she's the next Avatar,this makes her extremely happy as she went from the nobody that got bullied to the Gifted Kid™ that will kick bad guys' butts. Since this happened when she was very very young,she gets a way too high confidence boost plus nobody really controls her pride. She still gets trained at home since the world is rightfully scared about losing the Avatar all over again,thinking is better to keep a close eye on Korra so nothing happens to her. She masters Firebending and Earthbending. She still has trouble with Waterbending,at which she's very weak at. And her Airbending since finding a teacher on it is... Pretty damn impossible. This,of course,frustrates Korra a lot,she's the Waterbender Avatar how come she can't control her natural element but it's a master at her opposite?! But doesn't show it as much. With Katara's help,Tenzin comes and becomes Korra's master at Airbending of course. Let's cut some unnecessary stuff so we can see more of this,a frustrated Korra who it's just too impatient to learn Airbend and it's more worried on her Waterbend. In Republic City,btw,Korra sees the Equalists stuff. And she kinda feels some level of sympathy,since in this rewrite she did got bullied over the possibility of not bending anything at all. Erase most or all of the dumb love triangle,let's focus on the oppression Non-benders suffer. Let's see someone not getting a job cause it's required to bend something,a kid it's told he can't play because they game involves bending or the kid is made fun of,someone straight up saying their superior bc they can bend. It's hard to swallow but if you'll go for the damn allegory then fucking earn it and do it. The game isn't entirely pointless just make clear rules. Korra joins the Pro Bending,she joins the Fire Ferrets,since she can only use water she sees this as a way of getting better at one of the elements she struggles so much with. But since the game just keeps making her aggressive and feeds her competive instinct,Airbending just doesn't get easier,Korra is just too aggressive for it,plus being impatient and growing angrier and angrier. We keep going with the Equalists. They do make Korra realize that she has become a bit... Crappy,about her bending abilities. This is all caused by the inferiority-superiority complex she suffers,she got bullied so now she must be special,she must be better,she just MUST. *But taking people's bending away isn't a good thing at all.* I think it's possible to keep the whole stealing her bending thing,and see Korra grow from that pain,grow from the fact she became what she feared so much,now she's a Non-bender and can't do anything about it. *But* Let's say that since her Airbending was so terrible,that's why it stayed with her. She just takes a chance to see if even as a Non-bender she can connect with the past Avatars,specifically the last cycle before her. She stops being aggressive,she meditates a lot,and so,one day she Airbends. Maybe with Aang telling her there's still a chance she can relearn everything instead of *magically returning her bending.* Also the bad guy. Uh. Let's say he was a Waterbender that grew up with a mostly Non-bender family so even if he did had bending he knew the struggle they went through and he got tired and decided his weird vision of equality was the answer. *If you made it this far,thank you for staying long enough to read all of my stuff.* *I admit I ran out of imagination towards the end,apologies for that.*

At the end, I would not allow her any bending except Air. Force her to make it through life with only that. She spends a great deal of time with the Air Nomads, and the next season is a long while later, ten years or more. Give her time to grow into a life exclusively as an Air Nomad. Not a hermit, but studying Air Bending and helping rebuild the Air Benders, maybe not with repopulation, not yet. People with spirit problems come to her, and she is scared to leave and see the wider world. She will meet and greet small communities and interact with spirits freely, but people bother her, she maybe even changed her name. She is a damaged person now.

"If you need supplementary materials to understand a story, then it's not a good story." I came here from SomecallmeJohnny's Kingdom Hearts 2 review. I know the pain.
@TheLadysAtelier
@TheLadysAtelier 6 жыл бұрын
Ah, that stupid review. The games you need to play, watch cutscenes off or simply read up on on a wiki aren't supplementary materials. This is a sequel. Don't complain you don't understand something in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban while not having read any of the previous books. If you want to say it's a game and different than books, you probably don't really care about the story, so you should just enjoy the gameplay.
@Scsigs
@Scsigs 6 жыл бұрын
You realize I'm both going off of Johnny's review of the game, as I haven't played it yet, as well as the fact that it's Kingdom Hearts, right? The Kingdom Hearts series, as I've found out the hard way, has become infamous for not only spreading story-centric, overall plot-important, games on handhelds & mobile devices rather than just have them on the main consoles, leading them to confuse a lot of people who didn't play those ones because Namura assumed everyone would be playing every game in the series in order of release to get the full context of everything going on. Until 1.5, 2.5, & 2.8, many fans were left out if they didn't wanna get handhelds, read wiki pages, or live in Japan. Not only that, but the fact that each game raises more questions than it answers & Namura's tendency to seem like he writes by the seat of his pants, leaving answers to future games or supplementary stuff he talks about at a later date, is really seeming like you need a comprehensive breakdown of the series to make sense of anything really cements this. Even Kingdom Hearts' most loyal fans will tell you to play the series in order of original release rather than getting into it at a later game because you won't have any understanding of why anything's happening, just that it is. Speaking as someone who's first entry into the series was Dream Drop Distance & 0.2 on 2.8, I concur. Then there's the fact that the mobile game X Unchained contains PLOT RELEVANT INFORMATION THAT WILL BE IN KH3. Hopefully they'll have flashbacks or callbacks like DDD because I don't wanna have to play a stupid mobile spin-off game just to understand the plot of the main game. That's what supplemental stuff should be for, not plot-relevant shit. That's why I don't mind 358/2 Days. It gets into the story of Roxas after you're introduced to him in 2. This series epitomizes the use of supplemental material. Now, I don't exactly feel it takes away from the story to have supplemental material, but when a lot of the story or elements of a story is heavily reliant on it, that's when it gets stupid. And to bring up Harry Potter, no, you don't not understand what's going on in Prisoner of Azkaban, but when you actually look at how the film was written & the mindset of the director at the time, it just leaves so much to the book, but then again, ever movie from 3 on was made for readers of the books, as they'd get why everything is as it was rather than just what they focused on. Prisoner of Azkaban is the epitome of this, as it sets up things from the book, but doesn't really go anywhere with them. Alphonso Cuaron in a lot of behind the scenes material for that film talks about the abstract nature of the series rather than the story. He should've been a producer, not be the director. It's similar to Zack Snyder. They're idea people, not leaders.

That's also why I absolutely _hate_ _Power Rangers Super Megaforce,_ but love its source material, _Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger._ SM does fuck all to have any references to past seasons of Power Rangers that properly set up those seasons for younger kids to go back & watch. Then there's the fact that absolutely NOTHING about the season makes any sort of sense, or at least doesn't have a satisfactory explanation. 1. - Why do the rangers have the powers of their predecessors? Well, Gosei & Tensou must've hacked the Morphing Grid to clone the powers. -How & why? Fuck if I know. 2. Why do the past rangers not help out at all with SAVING THE EARTH FROM THE INVADING ALIEN FORCE? No idea, they just all said, "fuck it," I guess. 3. Why did Gosei JUST NOW wake up after 14 years' more worth of evil cropping up? *Shrug* 4. Why are the rangers' super mode suits pirate themed? No idea. 5. Is Johnathan Tzachor an absolute fuckwit? Yep. Every one of those questions aren't even needed to be asked in Gokaiger, not just because it's not PR, but because they're answered over the first bunch of episodes gradually in a way that can be understood easily, even if you'd never seen any other series in the franchise before.

I didn't own a PSP, so I couldn't play Birth By Sleep (you know, the PLOT HEAVY one!) I read the wiki, and the plot just turned the whole series into a clusterfuck. It's like they're throwing random ideas onto a wall and seeing what sticks. I dropped out before 3D, only played a few hours of Re: Coded and Unchained X. It's a shame. Regarding Korra's inability to airbend, you're probably right that the extradiagetic reason for it was that they wanted her to have an opposite powerset from Aang. But they do establish the basis of a decent intradiagetic reason: spirituality. Air is well-established as the most overtly spiritual of the elements, so the idea that an exceedingly non-spiritual person might have trouble with airbending fits very well. They don't go nearly far enough with the idea--Korra should have been given much more trouble using the aspects of her existing elements that could be considered more spiritually advanced--an inability to heal or at least being bad at it would have been a good way to showcase that idea, as would an inability to access the avatar state properly. But the foundation was there. This idea also provides a reason for Pro Bending to exist. Tenzin is a highly spiritual teacher trying to teach Korra airbending in the normal spiritually-focused manner, which she can't deal with. Pro Bending gives her a physically-centered framework she can understand upon which she can start to apply the physical aspects of Tenzin's teachings that she can absorb. It even provides the basis of a reason why Korra's might be able to suddenly airbend at the end of the season: spiritual realization. (Amon not taking away airbending along with everything else has an easy diagetic out: perhaps blocking different bending types requires different physical blood manipulations, and since he's never blocked an airbender before he doesn't get it right and doesn't realize it.) These aren't explored at all, but again the foundation is there. And yeah, the ending was a total Deus Ex Machina and goes against this whole idea, but that's what you get when the showrunners don't think they're going to get the additional seasons they initially expected they were. It's bad, but for understandable reasons.

How I would fix Legend of Korra. 1. Show more gangster benders attacking non-benders to give the Equalists an actual motive. 2. Have Asami's father show his hatred of all benders i.e. hiring only non-benders as his employees, forcing Mako to stay away from Asami, and ban Probending from his home and work. 3. Have Amon stay a mysterious figure that can not only steal bending but also shoot energy beams, all this he got from (dun dun duh) Vaatu the main villain for season 2. 4. At the end have Korra keep only her air bending, but have Aang tell her to not give up hope and train to get her other powers back, but only near the end of season 2. 5. Have Amon come back in season 2 with a revelation, that all the Avatars aren't reincarnations, but just the Spirit Raava possessing random people.

Not just shock gloves. This would be like the wars in Japan when the way of the samurai ended and guns took the place of martial arts, you can have metal benders blocking bullets coming from muskets only to get mowed down by new weapons like the machine gun as they can't block rapid fire weapons. 9: Don't shy anyway from getting dark your doing racism in your show have anti benders riots, have people demanding benders have a license for their powers and rules about using them. 10: When the military are brought in don't get rid of them seconds later. 11: Have a cult worship the fire lord and commit acts of terror. 12: Don't rush the backstory.

Korra not having her bending powers was a golden opportunity for character development. What they should’ve done is leave Korra completely powerless, even her air bending, and have season 2 be about her coping with being a non bender. Korra could’ve slipped into a depression and turn to Asami for advice on how she lives life as a non bender. The season could’ve progressed with Korra training to be a pro non bender by taking advanced self defense classes, learning how to make fires and fish and other survival skills without bending, and even develop social skills now that her status as the avatar is taken away. She could’ve grown more as a human and realize that she’s much more than the avatar. They could show us some awesome fight scenes where she’s able to hold her own against benders showing us that she’s still strong and talented. Then in the third season the show can give her her bending powers back, but she ends up being so powerful she can’t control her bending again because her mind and body have gotten so much stronger. Then she had to train again but with a new perspective on life and be extremely humbled. That would’ve been incredible. However like the pilot for “Too Many Robots” the concept was great, but they chose not to do anything with it and make the story as cliched as possible.

They could have even had season 2 be about all of that, and had Aang be to Korra as Roku was to Aang in AtLA in season 3. Perhaps Aang could have shown himself at the end of season 1 as a spirit, saying something like "You will be ok, Korra, you still have much to learn." It could be in the subtext that Aang was disappointed with how her treatment of her position of Avatar was, and that she wanted her to see her true purpose rather than her true power, much like Zuko in AtLA. Then, season 2 would have been about her coping with her loss of bending, reframing her mind and stuff like that, as Aang watches her from the spirit world, gaining more respect for her as she gains more respect for herself and others, ditching the "fuck you" attitude she had for most of the first season. In season 2, she could confront Aang multiple times, each time gaining more respect for her position as she realizes that she is much more than just a powerful bender who has access to all four elements. All the while, a major villain is being developed alongside her, and she is spending much of her time travelling alone, embarassed to show herself to her old friends and family in her current state. The viewer can see how this affects all of their lives, and that even without recognizing her full potential, Korra still had a major impact in day-to-day life in the city. Idk, I'm just spitballing here. I think anything would have been better than what they did, except for Amon. He was pretty badass.

I agree with most of what you've said, but I disagree that the non-bender oppression should've been straight-up discrimination. I'd prefer if benders and non-benders would be technically equal, while non-benders generally have a worse quality of life and are the subject to more subtle social biases. For example, they could focus on the industrial revolution. With so many new technological advances that require bending to create (electricity, for example), job opportunities for benders would skyrocket. Meanwhile, because the new technology is replacing old technology that didn't require bending, many non-benders would lose their jobs and be forced to either search much harder for well paying work, take low paying menial jobs that literally anyone could do, or spend a lot of money and effort going to school to learn a special skill. Because benders would be more or less guaranteed a decent paying career, they'd never have to struggle like that and wouldn't even think it's an issue until Amon brings it up. As for the social aspect, it wouldn't be hatred; it would be a power imbalance. Non-benders are inherently much weaker than benders and cannot defend themselves (without using an illegal weapon).They'd be bullied at school, not because the bullies are prejudiced against non-benders, but because they'd be very easy targets. The bending Mafias would target them almost exclusively, and they'd have no choice but to comply. They'd live their lives in constant fear, because at any time, a bender can choose to attack them and they'd be powerless to stop them. Benders would either not experience this at all or experience it to a much lesser extent, which, again, means it wouldn't occur to them until Amon brings it up. While the industrial example is directly caused by changing times, this is a little different. The reason this wouldn't have been much of an issue back in the day is because non-benders weren't a minority and smaller populations made benders less common (Southern Water Tribe, for example). But because of Republic City's unfathomably large population (which includes a lot of benders who moved there for new jobs) and a racially integrated society (meaning mixed-race children, which have a larger chance of being benders), benders would be everywhere and greatly outweigh non-benders. This issue could've been a great addition to the world of Korra and a great counter to X-Men's "if you think people with literal world-ending powers should be regulated then you're racist" bullshit, but instead we just had to assume it was the case because we needed 3596 episodes of pro-bending and love triangles.

They shouldn't had fast forwarded with technology evolution Like they did. because now the world doesn't seem like an *avatar* world. 2. they should've made episodes and plots that connects the current story to The last airbender by showing old characters like the *Fire masters* *"dragons"* *"Princess Yue'* and *"Azula"* and more, spiritually or physically having Korra and her team Travel the World and meet new people and tells more tales like *the Cave of two lover* each of them would've been a great edition in *helping* and building Korra one way or another because what we love about the last airbender is the adventures. . like in book 2 when Korra Visits *The Northern Water Tribe* they could've mentioned *YUE* By Getting every one hyped to see the Koi Fishes because they heard the legendary tale of a how a Princess became the Moon Spirit. 3. they should've showed us how the *Original bending masters* Title descended from the Lion Turtles to Badgermoles, Dragons and Sky Bisons. 'it's like those ideas never existed' 4. they should've also mentioned Harmonic Convergence in earlier story points and have never made a Dark avatar in the first place. it woul've been avoided if they had *Unalaq* "A victim himself" more of a villain with good reasons and had him get tricked by *VATO* and eventually sacrifice himself to save the world.

I agree Instead of Aang giving Korra's bending back she should have went to the original benders or at least masters of the original arts: The sun warriors, The moon spirit, maybe some badgermoles and for air instead of bison being in the fire nation there can be maybe a small hidden colony of them on a remote island that are descendents of the surviving bison from the Airbender genocide. Not getting her powers back with spirit magic, but by learning the disciplines of the 4 elements. For example: Toph learnt from badgermoles. For all we know she might not have even been an earthbender before that. This would also subtly explain the origin of the first benders and the avatar.

So you agree that cloth and wood are better armor than metal. Even though lightning bending has still been consistently unreliable in fights and people who are not fire/lightning benders can still be trained to absorb and distribute lightning, though nothing suggests they are trained that far?
@GothaBillsAndDeath
@GothaBillsAndDeath 6 жыл бұрын
How does that even make sense. Benefits of metal armor: - You are a rare breed of metalbenders who can easily use the material to maneuver in the air and remove at your will. - Water/Earth/Air and other forms of blunt-force trauma are weakened by metallic armors. - With fire being the only weakness to EVERY ARMOR EVER CONSTRUCTED IN EXISTENCE, what's the point in reaching this conclusion if cloth armor or wood armor doesn't protect you from I don't know, sharp projectiles and hazardous environments? Short of making carbon-alloys and replicating modern American military gear in a 1920s America or 1950s Hong Kong, what are you or MrEnter even suggesting? Lightening bending, fire-bending overheating the armors, sure these can be exposited in the show in their severe disadvantages, but still. Your in a setting that supports the idea that industry is still in it's early momentum. Are you saying there were no dangerous tools and methodologies we used back then that we don't use now? Lobotomy was considered a valid way of curing mental illness. Old-fashioned cars would never pass safety inspections nowadays. Radiation emanated from large mobile phones that caused cancer even in as late as the 80s-90s. I see this as a hindsight that is excused by the setting of the world and it's limited technology scope.

I would agree on the point only for it having become almost common. But the armor conducting electricity point, yeah that is a falacy due to the high misconception people have on how electricity flows when conducted by said metal. Any metal, bare a few, are actually very shitty conductors. Gold and Copper are good conductors as is platina. Thing is, those materials are either to pure to bend for the series, or way to valuable/indurable to use in armor. Leaving us with such things as steel and iron which only conduct eletricity on the surface. So long as these officiers keep their feet to the ground they will literally ground the electricity due to the current rolling over the surface of said armor into the ground. Lightning/electricity will Always go for the shortest route to the ground period. Tot that end, the equalists their lightning gloves would have knocked out everyone except these officers. And do not start pointing at armor penetration laying with lightning in high fantasy such as this. It all suffers from this misconception.

Yes. The Fire Lord was actually faster and better at generating lightning than Azula and Iroh (possibly not Iroh, because he was teaching when we saw him do it, but in comparison to Azula's careful circles he whipped out those things like, well, whips!) And the first time we see him do it, it's like five seconds after the Black Sun, when all Firebenders had lost their powers completely. The instant the sun comes back out, he's at top form.

I wish that, instead of Korra, we got an adult Team Avatar. All the stuff they say happened before Korra was born sounded WAY MORE INTERESTING than anything we saw in Korra. Aang formed a WHOLE DAMN CITY, began a new government, had Prince Zuko as fire lord, upgraded society, and had children. It's not like their world saving adventures ended after they defeated Ozai. It's just such a disappointment

+Amorantha Swiftmoon-To be fair, I do actually love The Last Airbender very much. Even though it has been hyped to the moon over the last decade from the kids that grew up with it, I still don't think in a way it gets enough credit for just how good it is. However, even now, I have to say, that the humor in Last Airbender at times is EXTREMELY JUVENILE AND IMMATURE. "Bryke" often overdoes something they think is funny and just about beat it to the ground. *Any surprise they originally were directors on Family Guy? That certainly. . .explains a lot on why they often beat their own jokes to death.* And sometimes they'll overdo it to where they insert a gag where there doesn't need to be one. ie. Aang trying to recover from his battle with Azula by entering the Avatar state for the first time he's been in a coma. . .He farts. Not. . .the. . .right. . .time. . . to use a fart joke. And I believe if Sokka was handled the same way Bryke did with Bolin, Sokka would ONLY be known for being funny and not anything else-he wouldn't be nearly as fleshed out as he was. However, a lot of that ill-timed and bumbling humor is even worse on Legend of Korra-Meelo "farbends"-basically anything that twerp does-Korra earthbends Jinora and Ikki to the ceiling when they tease her in front of Mako that she has feelings for him, Bolin can't ever seem to shut up, during Korra's date with Bolin, they both. . .burp really loud despite being 17 year olds. And worse, I don't want to get into the fact that Bryke thought the relationship BS and men being abused was funny. . .If anything, even the humor in Korra took a notch down from its predecessor.

If MrEnter can be honest, so can i. I hated Legend of Korra. Watched alittle but couldnt continue. I'd rather have had a Book 5 of The last airbender where we just explore the peace in the world and enjoy some leizure episodes without having to hide their identities. I would love character interaction and exploration without them having to fight to determine the fate of the world. 21:34 Pal, i dislike Korra but jesus christ, you just made a fantastic plot in the amount of time it took for the show to introduce her.

My sentiments are definitely similar but I stopped somewhere in Book 2. Aaron Ehasz, his wife, and the original ATLA writing team weren't part of LoK so it explains why the writing really devolved and had crappy elements (i.e. love triangle and too much focus on romance). That saying so, Ehasz really wanted to make another book for ATLA where they explored other things - i.e. Momo's significance, Iroh's journey to the Spirit World, flashbacks of Iroh and Lu-Ten, and Toph reconciling with her parents. And honestly, most fans can make a better plot for Korra. Mr. Enter's idea is definitely intriguing and it fits with the elements and balancing them well. Someone else also had a great idea where Korra was the daughter of nonbenders who are descendants of the Southern Water Tribe. Korra despised benders for the treatment she and non-benders got, so she wanted to join the Equalists. But one day, she bumps into Tenzin who is interested with her. After more bump ins, much to her shock, she finds she can bend - Tenzin then comes out and says, "Korra...you are the Avatar."

*+Kazechi Yumigami* Oh my god.. ARE YOU FLIPPING SERIOUS?!! WE WOULD'VE GOTTEN A FIFTH BOOK LIKE WE WANTED IF AARON HAD JUST STAYED?!! Oh god.. Those single 4 examples you brought of Iroh in the spirit world and Toph reconciling with her parents. I want those. They would fit so nicely with how Avatar TLA ended. No sudden grand danger or plot twist, only revisiting our favorite characters and see what happens to them after the war. Maybe we can get that one day? We could ditch the idea of Korra and instead return to the last airbender with these things.
@maskedblanks7774

When many fans heard of it, they started complaining as well: preferring Ehasz's vision rather than Bryke's mess with the comics. I think also Ehasz said that nothing would be unanswered in that book and it was meant to tie some loose ends: so, Ursa would've been there but in a very different direction than what she was in the comics. Yeah! Like an Epilogue, basically. Maybe, but considering Bryke now has full control and are continuing both ATLA and LoK with crappy comics, I sadly can't see it happening.

When I was starting watching Korra and thought it was pretty fresh. The plot was decent and they way Korra's situation was set up completely different to Aang's was pretty nice. One big problem which becomes more and more glaring however is that Korra is completely unlikable for almost 90% of the show. She's naive and slow beyond belief and routinely makes the same mistakes despite the show setting her up to learn from those same mistakes over and over. The highlight of the show for me were the bits involving the first avatar and what a surprise, Korra had nothing to do with those episodes. Overall the show recycles too much over its run and culminates in a disappointment

Agreed with this video, one correction though, Fire Lord Ozai could lightening bend, he actually targeted Zuko with lightening after the day of black sun ended. Big part of that episode was the Fire Lord using lightening to attack Zuko, because while Zuko could not create the lightening himself, he was able to use Iroh's technique to redirect his father's lightening back against him in order to escape.
