It would have been better if Jack defeated Aku in the future finally letting go of the past and moving forward with the friends he's made along the way. You can't change the past but there is always hope for a better future. That would have been a great message to end on.

If they just removed the whole arc with the queen and had them reach the village shortly after dealing with the Viking Chief and son so instead have the next episodes focus on Spear settling down, Fang's eggs hatching, Spear and Mira finally becoming close even possibly sharing a kiss and them doing it, a time skip to where Mira is already either pregnant or she's already given birth so Spear gets a chance to be a father THEN having the demon Viking show up AND THEN have Spear die after he at least got some time to be a father again

I think you greatly misunderstand episode 3. In episode 2, Jack did not expect the Daughters of Aku. He didn’t know them or what they were capable of. And after he was hurt, he had to escape. During his time alone, he is haunted by the death of one of the sisters. He sees visions about it and feels full of guilt. But after over 50 years, Jack has lost his way. Out of anger, he decides to retaliate because otherwise he will die. After killing the sisters, he realizes that it wasn’t their fault that they were that way, it was Aku’s. Jack’s guilt is shown through the relationship between him and Ashi. He is desperate to turn Ashi against Aku as he does not want to kill her. Jack had to kill the sisters otherwise he would’ve died. And the rest of the season is spent with him recovering from the deaths he cuased. Hell, episode 6 is literally focused on that.

I liked everything in season 5 except that Ashi didn't disappear immediately after Aku died. The wedding thing was just a waste because I was waiting for it and wondering why she was still there, and when she did disappear, I was like, "Why did it take so long? lol" It would have been SO much better to have Jack and Ashi celebrating Aku's demise and then turning around and being shocked that she is fading away. If they had it happen where Jack and Ashi look shocked that she's fading away, Jack reaches out to grab her, she disappears before he reaches her, then having it fade-transition to showing Jack from the back returning to his time and everyone celebrating, and then they pan up to show him from the front and he looks completely broken, it would have been perfect.

Season 5 was great, but the ending was unfortunately disappointing.
@BlazingAbyss
@BlazingAbyss 3 жыл бұрын
Season 5 started off superbly, the first few episodes were some of the best in the entire series... which makes it all the more painful that the show took a complete nosedive midway through. I still hate that they decided to make Ashi into Jack's love interest, not only did it feel forced, but earlier scenes made it look like they were setting up for a wholesome parental relationship between the two. Jack telling Ashi the story of the Sun and Moon in order to explain where the stars came from felt very akin to a parent reading a story to their child. It could have made for a great nature vs nurture moment where Ashi would have to decide between her biological parent or her adoptive one. Similarly Jack would have to decide if saving his parents justified erasing his adoptive daughter (along with everyone else) from existence. I will say though that I loved Mad Jack and I think everything regarding him was handled well, however I thought the Omen was a little disappointing and their role felt a bit redundant since it kind of overlapped with Mad Jack's. Also, as much as I adore Scaramouche, keeping him around after the first episode really served no purpose other than to waste time. It built up some tension, sure, but there was no actual payoff since by the time he finally reached Aku, Jack had already gotten his sword back and then Scaramouche is immediately dispatched by Aku afterwards. The following events likely would have played out the exact same way had Jack just gone to Aku himself making the whole Scaramouche subplot completely pointless. Speaking of no payoff, why in the world would they think it was okay to kill off the Guardian before Jack got to have his rematch? It's even worse because he was killed off-screen, you can't just kill a character that even Jack couldn't beat off-screen. It also irks me how they completely dropped the older Jack that was foreseen in the time portal, they don't even try to justify its absence with mention of a diverging timeline or something like that, sure that explanation would have been stupid too, but at least acknowledge it, otherwise it just turns the whole thing into a plot hole. However, the thing that irritated me more than anything else with the final season is that the show never brought up a very crucial issue, that being whether or not Jack should actually go back to the past or not. Going back to the past and killing Aku will save everyone in Jack's era, but what about all the people who were born in the timeline where he failed to do so? The thing is by killing the past version of Aku, Jack is essentially erasing away generations upon generations of people from existence. Do you like the Scotsman? Well too bad, history will now take such a radically different route that the events which facilitated his birth will likely never occur, the same likely applies to everyone else in the future era as well. All those people Jack met and/or saved in the future? Completely meaningless because they were all erased anyway. Now keep in mind, my issue isn't that Jack decided to mend the past and rewrite history, my issue is that he faces no moral dilemma over whether or not it's the right thing to do, this is the sort of stuff that should have gotten focus during the second half of the season, not cringey shipping scenes.

If there is one good thing that came out of this season is that the creators willfully acknowledge they weren't satisfied with how the ending turned out. This is why I prefer Multiverse theory in time travel, it maintains the events that happen and doesn't erase the entire story when someone actually goes back to change things. In fact they probably could've written it in a way where if an Aku in one reality dies then he dies in all other realities. He isn't a part of the natural world so he doesn't have to adhere to the logic of it either.

Jack was able to take down the Daughters of Aku the second time they fought, because he did such under the cover of a blizzard. The Daughters of Aku were only killing machines on paper, because while they had training, skills, the potential, and the fanatical obsession to get the job done - they still lacked field experience and adaptability. Under idea circumstances, yeah, they're more then capable of taking down Samurai Jack, but you throw in unforseen circumstances, like a blizzard for example, and the Daughters of Aku become garbage. The High Priestess rushed them so fast out of the door, she never bothered to train them beyond basic combat, which left them vulnerable when unforseen circumstances came up - circumstances which Jack was training to take advantage of, which is why he was able to wittle them down one by one.

This was the conclusion I came to as well. It reminded me of that seasom 4(?) It felt like a similar parallel because the daughters of Aku performed their best (and got the closest to killing Jack) under cover of darkness as opposed to the whiteout nature of a blizzard.

Honestly, the part about how he 'never' killed humans before the Daughters always bothered me, because it brings things like the Princess and the Bounty Hunters episode into question. Were all of those bounty hunters robots too? Or were they knocked out? And if they were knocked out, why didn't they get back up and try again? And also, what about X-49? He may have been a robot, but he was clearly sentient, had a personality and character, and even if Jack never found out about why he had gone after him, Jack did seem troubled about killing him. You don't need to be human to be a person. X-49 had more personality than half of the daughters of Aku. Why does Jack have a breakdown about six psychopaths that were trying to kill him to appease their equally psycho mother, but all that poor robot got was a troubled look? *Sorry if I sound sour; X-49's story was always something that got me choked up. Honestly, I really feel that would've been improved if Jack's delusions mentioned how 'rare' it is for him to encounter human foes, as he's often dealing with demons or robots: Delusion: 'We don't kill human beings that often, do we? Sure, mountains of robots. Piles of demons. But this was a rare one. Real flesh. Real blood.'

The major problem with Jack having trouble with fighting the Daughters of Aku was that compared to his previous enemies, they were far more vicious and coordinated. Jack accidentally killing one and going through the shock of such an act caused him to teeter on the edge of madness. That is why he was so much 'stronger' during round two. Having learned how the daughters fight, and tapping into the 'Strength of a mad man' allowed Jack to utterly crush the other daughters and no longer give a shit and just drop Ashi.

"The Daughters of Aku were far more vicious and coordinated than compared to previous enemies." Not to actually shoot down the argument here, but both the Ultrabots and The Minions of Set would heavily disagree, and *NOT* because Jack had to either get augmentations to kill the Ultrabots and/or a Scarab to actually summon the Deity that could actually *KILL* The Minions of Set. They both had literally the same approach the Sisters had, and proved to actually *BE* unstoppable forces all their own. Surprise Jack, hit hard, get him defensive, and send him into a state of retreat. (I would mention the robot biker gang from Jack and the Creature and the Bounty Hunter group from the Snow Ambush were it not for being lacking by raw comparison to the ones mentioned above.)

In my opinion Season 5 was good until Episode 8, because that is when they introduced the romance plot (which was the worst idea Gendy could have come to). WHY make Ashi into a love interest and NOT a daughter figure to Jack? The final battle of series should have been similar to the last 2 episodes: - Ashi being controlled by Aku and Jack piercing her with his sword, that way removing the "evil that is Aku" from her body. - Ashi is the one in the end to kill future Aku - After future Aku is defeated, the bird from "Jack and the Traveling Creatures" comes to pick up Jack and bring him to the Guardian - Jack says goodbye to all his friend that came to help him, having one last discussion with his best friend the Scotsman - Jack and Ashi go to the Guardian were Jack finally manages to beat him and earn the right to use the Portal - Jack asks Ashi to come with him, but she rejects him (knowing that if past Aku will be defeated she will dissapear and does not want Jack to suffer) and gives him a hug - As Jack goes to the portal, the portal shines (how it comunicates) and the Guardian (who is still alive) makes Ashi the new Guardian of the time portal. - Everything after is like the final episode, but instead of Ashi dying for dramatic effect it is Jack's father (The Emperor) who dies (him and Jack's mother having the appearance of when Jack came back from training in the first episode, old and weak due to Aku's torture) - The final scenes of the series remain exactly the same. All these modifications could have happened if episode 8 was scrapped and expand episode 9 and 10 with the added episode.

I just realized part way through this video that there's no real reason that i can see why the background for Mr. Enter is the matrix style text scroll thingy, that randomly changes colors by flicking to the next color instead of smoothly transitioning the colors. First thing, the colors flicking is a problem because it distracts the eyes, as opposed to a fade where you notice the color change, but it isn't distracting. Next, and most important, there's no reason to have the Matrix scroll thingy when you could have that blue background from before, or have a different background that makes more sense to who Mr. Enter is. The matrix scroll worked in the technocracy videos because that kind of look makes sense for talking about technology. I haven't seen the Matrix, but i get the general gist I think, with it being a simulation in a computer. The scroll doesn't work in normal videos because it isn't talking about technology and computers, but instead Samurai Jack. tl;dr, The background confuses me

To start with I stand by what I said when this review was announced. The biggest issue Samurai Jack, season 5 has is the number of episodes. Even Enter’s biggest issues, the Daughters of Aku being killed off too soon could be fixed if they had a full season. I don’t think the Daughters needed to around until the last episode, but a full arc within a full season would have been perfect. I think Scaramouche was meant to be a subversion of the monster of the week formula. He was clearly created in that style. The flash back episode was actually one of my favorite parts. It wasn’t a clip show, it showed how all the good Jack did had lasting affects. The Archers built a whole community. We wouldn’t know that otherwise. Same with Da Samurai being a bar tender. On Jack’s attempt at Seppuku, I think the implication was that he had felt a loss of purpose for a long time, and the sight of the children supposedly dead was the last straw. As for Ashi not disappearing right as Aku died, my theory is that the affects of Aku’s death had to riddle across the timeline until they hit Ashi’s birth (I know that sounds complicated, but that’s time travel plots for you.) And how did Jack show that he forgot about future tech? Was it not knowing who to activate the device to kill Lazarus? Because that’s totally alien tech, with very specific controls. And Jack didn’t hear the instructions. All in all, I think the season needed more episodes. More episodes for the Daughters, more built up for Ashi and Jack’s relationship, maybe even a two part of Ashi learning about Jack’s adventures, and some fun stand alone adventures, just for the fun.

Primal is a much better show than Season 5 Samurai Jack. That show tells amazing stories with extremely low amounts of dialouge and all action. I think it was just trying to tie the loose ends and endless padding that made the episodes be very shallow.
@TheSeleneSeipher
@TheSeleneSeipher 3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't call it an atrocity. Just an unfortunate victim of trying to tie everything up in only 10 episodes. It's basically the same as one of the biggest weaknesses of The Legend of Korra. Too little time to flesh things out to our satisfaction. Not to mention all of the wasted time on certain aspects (*cough* *cough* Bohemian Rhapsody *cough* *cough*)

This. I'm pretty sure this was supposed to be a full 13 episode season like normal that got trimmed by executive order. The finale really needs to be two episodes, one dealing with the future, the other finally getting back to the past, and the middle of the series where Ashi is doing a heel face turn and Jack is getting his head straightened out could use an extra episode each.

I really disliked how much people just walked on eggshells during the time this came out -- it had some key aspects lacking a lot and yet people online rarely bother putting it into words. I recall at the time I made comparison how both this and Gravity Falls could've just reversed their approach to a finale and they would've reached amazing heights. -Samurai Jack was essentially a series that show how a guy Isolated from the world against all odds could change it. And yet the Finale decided to ignore all the interest that has been built up from Jack's quest to instead focus on "the friends we made along the way", taking away any proper drama between him and Aku. -Gravity Falls spent most of it's time showing how together the town can overcome any supernatural evil and even consistently hinted at it through the Cypher Wheel. Yet the finale literally rejected that and decided to put the spotlight only on the Family. A the end of the day, I think the main reason people would rather not talk bad about SJ5 is because it was mostly mediocre, so it might not even be worth it to risk blemishing and otherwise great show.

Rushed would be a perfect way to describe this season, that and the Romance just didn't work at all, should've been a Father/Daughter or Mentor to apprentice development instead, and yeah the admittedly really cool idea of the Daughters of Aku hunting Jack relentlessly was just wasted as well, remember when Jack had to actually figure out how to defeat his enemies?, like using the mining crystals as arrowtips to fight the robot Scarabs and setting up traps with the Dogs mining equipment like in the first few episodes?

Father daughter mentor would have been perfect idea. A: Mentorship is common trope in these kind of Martial arts kind of stories B:Would have been a great twist saying the only true way to kill aku was to kill his legacy C: It would have made jack complete an arch and given his 50 year journey a point. Like when he returns to the time portal guardian he could say” told you must be a stronger jack to return, and by by mentoring the next generation you have shown .A true samurai knowns that letting go of the past is the key to becoming a true samurai, for he knowns once he lets go of his past the past shall return to him in when he brings new blood into this world, thus the past shall never forget him”

in my opinion, Ashi and the other daughters should have been Jack's biological children, with her mother being a scorned lover from his past. She could have still been raised by Aku worshippers, with the final reveal being, when Jack finds out he was forced to kill his own children, that should have been the final nail that sent him to the edge of suicide. The only thing preventing him from ending it would be Ashi, the only daughter that saw he brought light to the world. It would have removed the awkward romance. It would have put context to the nameless mother figure as a scorned lover or temptress, and given Aku more agency as a villain by crafting a plan decades in the making. That should have been why they were such excellent warriors, because they came from Jack's own blood. ASHI SHOULD HAVE BEEN JACK'S DAUGHTER!

What made Korra suffer from being redeemed even during its "good period" was that Nickelodeon honestly didn't care about the show. The fact that it was moved onto the backburner and onto its main website to view all the newer episodes was just so stupid. I mean it was still bringing in views for them despite it being overshadowed by SpongeBob, but for a follow up to what is considered the greatest Nick show of all time they just didn't care.

The romance between Jack and Ashi didn't have to be awful. For one thing Jack could have taken a less paternal role from the beginning so it wouldn't feel weird. For another the biggest problem with it was that both of their character developments came to a screeching halt with the romance. And since Ashi wasn't even in the original 4 seasons that felt especially insulting. But think about it Jack KILLED Ashi's sisters and they never even talk about it on screen! I was waiting for a conversation about that, where Jack realizes that was her family and feels horrible and Ashi tells him about their abusive upbringing to make him understand it wasn't his fault. That would have given the perfect opportunity for them to help each other grow from their past traumas. But the problem is when the romance came everything was driven by lazy cliches. Oh look how awkward it is that they accidentally touched for half a second! Then because Jack's arc was completely hijacked by the romance, Jack killing Aku, leaving his friends in the future, and returning home all felt secondary. The romance was likely meant to add more emotional resonance to the story but ended up taking it away.
