I'd say that a good indicator of success for a children's cartoon is when, years later, the children who watched the show are now adults who still want to watch it.

Samurai Jack is the show which kindled my love for world building. I was a rather apathetic kid (and still kind of am), I'd studied various subjects and tried a load of sports as a kid but nothing ever excited me all that much. Then one day I was watching this show and Jack was trying to find a way to cross the ocean when he found a Map. The infinite possibilities this map represented just blew me away. Everything so far had been just a small portion of the world and I longed to know what was beyond that horizon, I wanted to explore. Sadly I'm too late for earth and too early for space so I needed to create my own frontier! Sadly I forgot this as i grew but thankfully TTGL came along and reminded me when i hit 20. Now I am one year from graduation in my Digital Animation course and starting on building world lore and level design for my very own final year game project. I can track it all back to that one scene in that one show. Words cannot express how glad i am Jack's story is finally going to have some closure. Thanks for covering this absolute Gem Eyepatch! TLDR: I Cried.

Don't stress it too much mate and enjoy where you are now as much as you can. It's never too late to change how your life is so do what you think is the best for you now and if it doesn't work out, chalk it down to experience and try something else. You'll find it eventually as long as you are open to trying new things every now and again.
@mashisseosseo11717 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the support. I've gradually become a lot more open to new things, but I'm nearing high-school graduation, which may not seem like a big deal compared to a college graduation, but where I live, and in my school specifically, they put a lot of pressure on us to hastily get on with the our next stage in life. It's also sad to see that they glamorise university so much, even though it's not for everyone--if you don't go to uni, you're considered a failure. Sometimes I want to just travel, or experience/learn something new and build relationships. I'm trying to find a balance of financial stability, not being oppressed by social norms, and trying new things. tl:dr haha
@killianduggan87307 жыл бұрын
I think the best thing to do out of school is instead of a 4 year course, take a one year course (a level 5 or 6 where i live) and work part time/weekends. A lighter workload lets you try new things, join societies, meet new people and try see if you like what your course is actually about. Also save a little if you can. Working part time in a the later years of a 4 year course is too much stress to deal with if you can save yourself from it.

The one thing Jack said that made me begin to love him like a dignified friend was when he was in that sunken city and they sat down to dinner and he said, "Sushi!" I related to him in that moment because it was like you've been lost and scared somewhere and as welcoming as some strangers may appear, you can't really feel at ease. But once a familiar - or even favourite - food is put in front of you you sudden;y feel so much better. And also, food is a great way to make a character relatable. Not often enough do we see heroes and heroines eating. Just eating. So yeah, that's my hot take.

Many anime and shows that are very long running often get called 'the best' based purely on the length of their resume and their decades-spanning "legacy" But as cool and sprawling as a Dragon Ball/DBZ/Super, Naruto, or One Piece may be.....they are insanely lengthy, have serious ups and downs in quality....and seemed designed in the inherently flawed 'soap opera' style of having never-ending storytelling. All of the truly great stories have fantastic conclusions.....and it doesn't seem like any of those properties will ever truly have fitting conclusions. Samurai Jack is the definition of quality over quantity. Of minimalism over excess. It is 62 episodes of PURE GOLD. Pure visual artistry that touches almost every genre and art-style you can imagine. All the while the entire thing is kept very simple and very pure, making it truly universal in its appeal. The show succeeds at being both an episodic, one-off series of loosely connected episodes...as well as being something that, upon the conclusion, feels almost completely cohesive and united as a single epic journey. The final season increased the maturity and scope of the series as a whole, and did a lot of work towards linking the entire series together and bringing it all full circle. It was the perfect epilogue and conclusion to the original run. It was heart-breaking that the show was canned without a conclusion, but in the long run it was all worth it. Had it continued indefinitely, eventually the quality would have suffered and the through-line of the central plot would have felt dragged on too long without resolution. It was nixed while it was still peaking in quality, and brought back better than ever for just long enough to bring the entire thing to a satisfying and epic conclusion. For my money, it is the greatest animated series ever created.

Just because I didn't see it in the piles of comments, but there is an ending to the D&D cartoon, sort of. They scripted a season ending episode that could infer that they finally got home, or that they remained (if they got another season,) but it was never animated. The script is read in the extras of the Deluxe box set of the series.

+Lyam Absolutely mot yuri bait? I can literally think of like one scene to relate to it, but it's a damn small part of that show. I can't give context around it without spoiling something pretty big, but I can tell you that I can scarcely think of an anime with less fanservice than Shinsenkai Yori. I think there was some anime youtuber that reviewed it and sparked a bad rumor or something? I've heard a few weird rumors about the show and not one of them are true.

I always felt bad for the princess, especially when you consider that Jack would have helped if she asked. I mean most stories about him are about him freeing people from Aku, yet she only wants the money his death would supply so wth? As far as the series as a whole, it is just a beautiful production and I'm so glad it is coming back after so long to finally finish his fight with Aku.

Fantastic video for encouraging people to watch up for the new season, as well as build more hype for people like me who're already beyond stoked for the return of my favorite TV show ever. I grew up on Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon shows, they're my life's blood, my formative childhood experiences that still inspire me to this day. Out of all of them, I can state unequivocally that Samurai Jack is the best, a masterpiece without peers. It stand stark and unique among the history of animated entertainment, unmistakable and immediately recognizable, you could pick any single frame from any single episode and people would say: "Oh yeah! That's Samurai Jack!" It's a show that demonstrates the boundless capabilities of the visual medium, how music and sound design can be used to create a gripping and unforgettable tone of the world, and how simplistic stylized designs form ineffable characters that endure the years as beloved icons. I don't know what the final season will hold, but I have upmost confidence that the people behind it will try their absolute best to recapture that decades old wonder, and accomplish one thing perhaps more important. Out of the thousands of stories never finished, whether cancelled or abandoned or simply forgotten, I think I speak for many when I say one name among those unfinished journeys deserves a conclusion. Samurai Jack.

What makes the Bounty Hunter Princess even sadder is even if she did succeed in claiming the bounty on Jack it would still be all for nothing since Aku never keeps his ends of deals he would still have her people enslaved and she would have destroyed the one and only person who can defeat Aku and actually free her people. If only she'd just told Jack about her situation he would have offered her to team up with him as he is the only one who can actually defeat Aku.

I remember exactly one episode of Samurai Jack, where he tries to get to a tower where three master bowmen are, but they keep firing arrows at gattling speed. Then he puts on a blindfold and suddenly he can dodge all the arrows. Can't remember what the episode is called.
@Kopaka8087 жыл бұрын
Going by memory, the episode Jack and the Three blind Archers. In the episode, Jack meditates on a solution to the archers, and remembers his training with the Shaolin. There his Sifu taught him to fight without sight and use his other reaming senses so he may fight on any level. Jack concludes that in order to fight this new foe, he must fight on their level.

This video made my subscription definite. As a kid I loved Samuri Jack, and if I remember correctly, it usually played nearly right before the Adult Swim block came on. As a child I honestly mistook this as a series that belonged in that block. I caught a feeling of something more than my understanding, but watched regardless. It is a series that has never left me through my life. I can't exactly pin down the amount it's brought to the front of my mind, but thinking back on it I've probably looked upon Samuri Jack in nostalgic grace more than any other show I watched as a kid. I've always wondered exactly why that was; why Samuri Jack stood out to me and if it did for anyone else. After watching your breakdown of the series I think I've come to term with my questions. I don't think I ever understood how much Samuri Jack meant to me and I'm ecstatic about the new season. I hope the brilliance of the show still makes itself apparent. I'm going to revisit the series now as an adult because of you, thank you.

I want a more sober approach to the matter so that it doesn't end in a hate speech. Eyepatch seams the right guy for it. Also Fairy Tale is ending soon and to see what make it work and what broke it could be interesting just like with Bleach. Maybe a future mangaka can learn something of it(unlikely) but most likely we learn something in the process. And learning is fun, at least to me.
@francisbekoe39677 жыл бұрын
well in his phantom world video he said he liked even some of the worst parts of fairy tail so a hate speech isnt likely or he could talk about the appeal of shoenen in general, like what makes them popular.
