You can relate to someone even though they might be extremely different, you know? There only needs to be a tiny amount of similarities for relation to happen. If it's Rick, you don't also have to be a super scientist capable of whatever. Rick is an extremely self-destructive, self-serving, co-dependant and heavily unsatisfied person who sometimes gets a bout of extreme depression and nihilism. He has almost every single flaw you can put into a person. Ofc, some people will find him relatable, they only need to relate to at least one aspect of Rick. It's for the same reason that Bojack Horseman is relatable to some people. He also has a bunch of flaws in one package. These characters sometimes help these people process their feelings.
@kevintrjohnson3 жыл бұрын
I agree, but strip away the sci-fi trappings, genocide, and slavery on a universal scale, and Rick is just an old man that keeps fucking up his life and the lives of those around him, almost in spite of himself and even when he seems to be succeeding in other aspects of his life. That's not a role model, to be sure, but I can relate to that a little bit. He's almost like a murderous Britta.

Regarding the A and B plot thing: the audio commentary on South Park constantly talks about that. On almost any episode that has a single plot, they talk about how they should do more episodes like that. Then in the very next episode, they are right back to an A and B plot, and regret making it like that since each plot had enough material for two separate episodes. If the show wasn't made in six days, they would've had enough time to split it up into two episodes. And the funny thing is, they have literally never learned. They are aware the show is better, and they personally prefer it, when the show only has one plot.

I think while the creators always had in mind that Rick's intellect and capabilities had always left him suffering in silence and that this characteristic was going to be a slow burn throughout the show's lifetime. However, the misbehavior of the fanbase attempting to ape Rick that winds up making them look like pathetic, egomaniacal douchebags and painting the franchise in a bad light, meant this aspect could no longer be subtextual and is now text. Season 4 could be seen as the creators doing damage control by having Rick finally face consequences and that his character IS NOT A ROLE MODEL.

I hated the Vindicators episode. It would have been one thing if it was just a deconstruction of Superhero tropes which is something I like a lot. But it was a bunch of Rick complaining, the heroes complaining, them dying for no reason other than basically Rick set up the saw thing which... was stupid... and I feel the episode could have been good if they didn't basically make Rick be all like "I am smarter than you guys and don't try to be smarter and Morty should be miserable of course." Heck Infinity War, which is part of the very thing the episode trying to parody that is the MCU, is a better Vindicators than Vindicators!! Most of the characters die due to a character that's clever than the rest, the main flaws of the characters are actually what DO cause their downfall such as the infamous Star Lord scene, there's fights between the heroic characters but not because they hate each other or because of cheating drama (which thanks I hate it Vindicators) but because they're under a lot of pressure to stop Thanos.

@loafhero, the only time I’ve seen B plots matching up in A plots done really well are in anime series like Zatch Bell for example which Mr Enter also thinks it’s his most favorite Shonen Jump anime/manga series, and in other mediums of entertainment I also agree with Mr Enter that a cartoon series, tv series, or movie series if they’re going to going to have an A plot and a B plot than they should overlap each other and being told well. For example in Zatch Bell in one of Mr Enter’s Admirable Animation video he did a video on where how Kiyo’s A plot of being a teenaged Japanese high school honor student he doesn’t have all the time in the world to look after Zatch all the time, so the A plot of the episode is Kiyo making a toy for Zatch to play with until Kiyo isn’t busy with school life to spending time with Zatch, and the B plot revolves around another Madamoo owner that has same thing with their life too except they’re in the wealthiest neighborhoods in Japan until the Madamoo is killed because they’re forced to fight on Earth for every 1,000 years or so, and Zatch after becoming Madamoo King wants to abolish the death match system.

Rick may be a super scientist, and the "smartest guy in the universe", but in nearly every episode he always manages to come out on top with little to no conflict whatsoever. He does have flaws, but they don't prevent him from achieving his goals. In other words, he's too invincible. And if someone is too invincible, then there's no sense of tension or investment. I guess that's why it feels refreshing to hear Dr. Wong's speech at the end, describing how Rick uses "...intelligence to justify sickness". Maybe it's just me, but the show often frames Rick as "correct" when he's suppose to be in the wrong. And those who do challenge him, or his philosophy, are often framed as "in the wrong". I kidna wish he was protrayed as something like a "underdog demon" that instead of doing "classical faustian deals" he wants to profit from them in style and all theatrical by selling to villains. that sure he can be more powerful than normal humans (hence easily bullying flugg, dementia and the robots) but he is not omnipotent. I mean, i loved the short where flugg makes his house so tighly protected that "the suppsoedly omnipotent blackhat" can't get into his own house. so i kinda wish they stuck to "black hat looks powerful, and he kinda is, but it isn't as much as he boasts too" and let the fanbase be the one to protray him like segata sanshiro and chuck norris. Partly Agree. To me one of my least favourite character choices was giving Rick a clearly defined backstory as a motivation for a stupid meta-joke that contradicts his character and creates a plothole. So I guess Rick isn't really that nihilistic after all since he's out for revenge against Rick Prime, I mean that literally goes against the concept of nothing in life mattering to him. Then it creates a plothole, in S3E01, it's stated that you can't alter the details of a memory so Rick in a stroke of genius created a new memory for himself. Well, I guess it wasn't that genius as what was stated to be impossible is now possible for no reason.
@TooSweet3533 ай бұрын
I do like the direction the series is going in now. S7 wrapped up the whole Rick vs Rick Prime storyline pretty nicely, not the best episode but it didn't need to be. They've also used Evil Morty to stop the whole Rick = God and is the smartest man in the universe Bullshit which is very nice and creative. So who knows, perhaps we'll go back to seeing pop-culture parodies and simple concepts.

I used to love Rick and Morty back in like 2015. I got into from Gravity Falls and I bought a lot of the comics and remember staying up for new episodes... I remember wore a Rick and Morty shirt to school and only a few people knew it. When season 3 came out I wasn't as much into it so u didnt watch it, and then came the memes that made me hate it.

I don’t agree that the family shouldn’t be analyzed because they’re “bad people”. I think shows like Bojack and Rick and Morty. I think we are seeing more imperfect characters that reflect us as people since we as people are trained to act in our self interest. I liked the therapist speech because it was calling Rick out. He thinks he is about a mental health professional simply because he’s good at science, but she can see big flaws he is unwilling to address. If you watch that psychology video with Gloria where she picks from 3 types of therapy, there is one that strongly reflects what the Dr say.

Yeah, but is a show dont tell thing. Its not the same that showing about their character than "oh well, you're like this".
@BlueAversion3 жыл бұрын
@@CrraVideos Thing is though, the interaction and Rick’s actions before, during and after the therapy session do show Wong’s point. Also, tell rather than show does work in these sort of monologues. The Free Churro episode of Bojack Horseman is entirely a tell rather than show episode through a monologue, and everyone (besides me) seems to worship that episode.

@@BlueAversion Yes, but that is the *entire* episode, its a change of pace being withing a pshyco pickle killing people with rat bones and a therapist telling stuff, its.... weird, its one way or another, but both ruin the pace and the episode

The thing is that bojack is about character. He doesn't always go through some crazy and stuff. Most of the time it's him doing bad things because he's an asshole. But he gets called out for and i love how he's trying to change. Rick and morty was about a crazy grandpa going on adventures with his grandson. I also think that the way they handle the characters in s1 and 2 was far better. There was a lot that left the audience question the characters' action without fucking saying everything like the therapy scene.
@pundertalefan43913 жыл бұрын
I can agree with this. I know it was a bad moment to most people, but for some reason I just couldn't hate it. It was the only moment I actually liked. This seems to explain it perfectly. I DON'T relate to Rick at all. But I still liked that scene. I think it was that someone finally decided to be done with all of Rick's junk. She wasn't going to put up with it or buy into it like his pansy family. I liked that. But even though it was a lot of talking, the scene afterwards still shows that he doesn't care what she says. He's not going to change. That was shown clearly. I also agree with you there. Good to see that someone sees it the same way.

So am I the only person who likes both the A and B plots? As well as the therapists dissection of Rick? Like we've seen Rick go through heavy character development before remember when he sacrificed his life to pull Morty out of the Schrodinger's cat Dimension. Sure he changed his mind but that was at the very last minute when an unknown variable came into play, before the other caller came into sight he was giving up his life so Morty could continue to live. I'd really only say it was the very first season where Rick and Morty just tried to be a comedy after that every episode in my opinion at least from what I watched could be looked at in two ways the most directed forward way would be to say it's just a comedy show (which is fine). The other way would be to look at it as social commentary through a comedic medium.

Season 5 tells that there are 2 types of ricks 1 that abandons his family and 2 the ricks who dose not abandons his family but a rick from a alternate time line who kills beth and her mother. So the ricks who don't abandons their family finds a dimension where his daughter is still alive and is in her life. Which isn't healthy

The entire episode was centered around rick going to extreme efforts to avoid therapy. The episode painted therapy as a bad thing for rick.
@magmos63463 жыл бұрын
I remember there were accusations that the therapist was a mary sue due to how quickly she had Rick and his issues figured out. At first I was skeptical, I mean, Rick's not a complex guy. I'd figure any therapist worth their salt could have Rick figured out pretty darn quick. THEN I saw a picture of the writer for the episode and it all fell into place. Three Words: Author, Self, Insert.

@@Air_Serpent It's not a matter of speeding things up, like I said, any therapist who actually worked for their degree could get a pretty good grasp on Rick pretty darn quick. The issue, is that THIS therapist looks like a Rick and Morty version of the writer of the episode.
