The bad color design is probably from the first team trying to follow the color scheme in the manga illustration. The problem is that Gege Akutami is color blind, and that affects his color selection big time. Yuuji fluctuates between dirty blonde to pink hair in illustrations over the entire series, he was actually meant to be blonde but the author couldn't tell those colors apart. So yes, the new colors are a vast improvement. That arc also being a flashback could be the reason why they chose that palette as well. I have seen more than one person saying it's bad animation, which is rather baffling. It looks very impressive to me 🤷🏽‍♀️

What I've realized is that most people don't know what animation actually is. They get it confused with art style and effects done in post comp. People will look at still images with pretty backgrounds and lightning effects and call it good animation 🤦‍♂️

It’s hard to notice but the shine on gojo’s eyes happened after gojo’s awakening in the manga Before that his eyes were drawn with pure white, after that they now have shades of grey

The shift in color, animation, and art was likely implemented to fit the mood of the flashback arc. Everyone’s younger, things are a bit happier, and the events that take place are often wholesome. I don’t know if this is some unheard of/impossible thing to occur, but I’d love if they immediately switched back styles once the flashback ends. Otherwise a portion of the Shibuya ark is going to be animated in this style, and that would be an extremely unfitting stylistic choice for that arc.

There were times were the compositing was pretty good, yes he was inexperienced but as you said a director's Vision for a Show is very important. Cour 1 will look phenomemal. The real Challenge for the gosso and his team is The cour 2. It's kinda like season 1 situation but with a LOT better compositing and art direction and storyboards but with The absence of an one man team called sunghoo park. Hopefully they can come out successfully. I specially want to see What imai is gonna do for JJK. And What do you think about The (plan) that manabu has? What is your possibilities for it? Because Mappa is not actually always filled with bad production schedules. VS, tondemo skill and the Original movie had very good schedules. So I'm very curious about your answer cause his direction may be questionable at times. But he is definitely not stupid. And i hope park will at least do some KA for cour 2

I don't think your being really fair to Sunghoo Park. You have to remember that Jujutsu Kaisen and God of high school were both simultaneously in production at the same time. GOH while it didn't have any fancy compositing or any asthethic vibe but at the same time it didn't have any of those garbage CG backgrounds that were found in JJK. As for the composting MAPPA did hire more people to specifically work in their compositing department during the production of CSM and CSM had two assistant directors of photography who handled a large chunk of the composition for the CSM anime. It seems there are more people working at MAPPA's own in-house composite team along with teppei Ito showing more growth so in a way you could say there are more talented people working at MAPPA. If we look at the JJK movie which was still directed by Park the movie had good background and a very solid composite with wasn't a dogshit level bad like with the JJK TV show. Also another small point is that you mentioned that JJK now has an assistant director but there was an assistant director before on S1 and the movie too it was Yui UMEMOTO. Yui UMEMOTO though left MAPPA alongside Park and is currently no longer affiliated with the show. He did direct the first episode of the series and provided the storyboards for the Juju sampo.

There is a ridiculous amount of free information out there. Most of the freelance animators have plenty of tutorial videos on timing and storyboards. Robert Marzullo's videos are a must for getting better at drawings. As for animation, check out some of Yen Yen's youtube videos. They're long but more than worth your time.

And don't have so much similarities in the staff in some projects (like JJK and CSM) that the result would be that both can't have good schedules (although they have so many different teams but it's still not enough and they are still new). Unfortunately, two of the three composers from JJK S1 and JJK 0 won't be returning. Most likely because of the production schedule for the show. Those two being Hiroaki Tsutsumi & Alisa Okehazama. Yoshimasa Terui will be returning for the 2nd season though. You can look up the tracks that they've done on KZbin or Spotify. A few notable examples would be Your Battle Is My Battle by Hiroaki Tsutsumi, Self-Embodiment of Perfection by Alisa Okehazama, and Straw Doll Technique Resonance by Yoshimasa Terui. Terui so far has already done the OST for the trailer plus the character intro teaser released a while back.

What are you talking about? Tatsuki's art is not that detailed at all, in fact his art is not even that good. The only good thing about Fujimoto is his creativity with certain panels but the art itself is pretty mediocre, he's probably one of the worst mangakas when it comes to anatomy. JJK on the other hand while not always consistent, most of the time the art is much more detailed than anything Fujimoto's has done and the biggest difference in quality are the fights, Fujimoto doesn't hold a candle to Gege in that department but tbh that's not really a criticism, it's just that Gege is one of the best mangakas in the industry when it comes to choreography and paneling for fights.

I agree he has his own drawing style but it's just not impressive when it comes strictly to art and as I said he's terrible at anatomy, having a certain style doesn't excuse it for how bad it is. There's a very fine line when it comes to anatomy with how much you can get away with. I have no problem with it if it's a comedy, goofy series or whatever but for how much he tries to go for a cinematic/realistic approach, the characters are as far away from it as possible.

He's one of the best in our modern generation (it's not always about art the way he makes his simplistic stories feel deep is what makes him good) like hell any Character created by him is likeable. And Akutami sensei while being best in action (one of the best in industry Imo)he does sacrifice plot for the sake of fights(I'm not going to downplay any of them why would I Fujimoto and Akutami are my favourite new gen mangakas) And I may sound like a hypocrite with this comment but I'm not lol 💀

@@HPblu3 I will give you that the characters most of the time aren't particularly detailed, but the environments are almost always drawn in detail. I also disagree with you on the anatomy. Some of the panels from this manga are extremely well drawn for the parts that relaly matter.

JJK season 1 is absolutely hideous visually and I’m so glad they made changes to make it more aesthetically appealing. I’m looking forward to watching it more now

Yep but with lesser details because of insane fight Scenes and the bad production schedule (pre production was good) but it will look much Smoother because season 1 didn't had a good schedule either and it looked stiff at times

Appreciate the video and the explanations, but man, no matter how I look at it this trailer was a downgrade for me. I Really don't like the simple art style & less detail in lines... I'm sure they will do justice as much as they can, given the schedule, but I don't think I'm as excited as I was before Season 1 came out. Fingers crossed

you can maybe say that you don't like the stylistic approach they're going for but how is it a downgrade when they actually improved on issues they had from s1? even if you're not a fan of the less detail in character designs and the simple artstyle, s2's storyline is miles better than s1 so you can be excited for that at least.

@@ugh5281 JJK was never about the story for me though. I'm sure S2 is going to be great story-vise, and I'm sure the animators will do justice, but so far I'm definitely not a fan of it. Especially that "kanada style animation" scene. I mean I'm not going to go ahead throw dirt at Yoshinori Kanada and his influence in animation but, if that scene in this particular trailer created with his vision and talent thoughout the years within various different animators, that's great. But that particular scene just looks like ass to me. The next scene after 24:01 is cool though. I know I sound like a crying baby or something 😂 But I loved what Seong-Hu Park & various different animators (especially Tatsuya Yoshihara) created with the first season. Shame it won't happen again. I'm not incredibly knowledable with Gosso's style (just saw a couple shots from him in JJK and Ousama Ranking, they looked insane though), and I'm sure he and the overall team will be doing their best in this tight time schedule, but not sure if it's going to be FOR ME overall.

It's not always Mappa. It's because of production committees too. But The reason why JJK has a bad schedule (pre production was good) is CSM and it's the same reason why CSM didn't had a good schedule either. Because there is a lot of similarities in the staff (there are differences but still)

And despite this. There are good to great schedules like vinland saga, tondemo skill or The Original movie that they are making or even yuri on Ice movie. And it's not like Mappa has bad production schedules. It's in all if The industry. And the Studios that are Really in trouble for this see A-1 pictures and cloverworks. Because they are subsidairy of ANIPLEX

He kinda meant he appreciate CSM ambition of wanting to push the boundary of animation, which it did, BUT also drop down over the later eps. He would not criticize it at all if it was perfect throughout, but since it didn’t, he has to point out that LOSS POTENTIAL of ppl works/layouts in those later eps. And so in JJK2, he compliment it so much because they will work SMART this time to not create any loss potential from this shit schedule.

@@NineTnk Isn't that the same for JJK S2 tho? Everything they'll make up in easier animation, they'll lose in an even worse schedule than CSM, AND they have to animate DOUBLE the ammount of episodes. All of that will resault in a strong start, drop of quality throughout and a weaker finish, just like CSM.

​@@davidiobrandoi don't think so even with The bad production schedule (The pre production was good). JJK now is not nearly as ambitious as CSM is (even with gosso as The director). Cour 1 will look phenomemal, definitely. But with a LOT or 2KA animators and with The big team that it has (and there is not much project to effect JJK that much). They can still make cour 2 look amazing (it's kinda like season 1 situation but with a LOT better compositing and art direction but without an one man team called park). The Simple Designs also helps a lot and they look great (specially because of compositing)

Bruh why do you keep breaking down ACTION SHONEN like can you breakdown Blue lock episodes 1-2 and the difference in cour 2? And the news about season 2 ALREADY WITH A MOVIE. 🚩 imo… do you think the u20 arc will get justice with the right time? I feel like season 2 might be another 24 episodes and I’m worried that they gonna ruin the u20 arc. You think it’s possible they can do a 3-4 hour movie with 45-50 chapters? Honestly, they showed to much content in the 1st season and it should of been at least 11 to 12 episodes. The production committee clearly isn’t doing they job and it seems it’s very rushed due to the World Cup. They wanted to released the show imo around the World Cup and it wasn’t worth it.
