I wish more people thought like you, tbh it always leaves me scratching my head everytime there’s some new ldiscourse” online about how a certain character from some show or book is behaving Questioning why they’re being so irrational, selfish etc and how these flaws make them worst than the devil due to the ramifications of these flaws All for the character to just be like 12 💀 Characters like amber from invincible, mabel from gravity falls, aang and katara from avatar, lilo from lilo and stich and lisa simpson come to mind off the top of my head. I even see it in how some people responded to characters like Naruto, boruto and sakura at times. Like deadass, I unironically think people have become so desensitized to seeing fictional minors act like fictional to the point where they genuinely can’t comprehend when they realistically act their age. Mainly when it comes to older readers/viewers. Like idk even know how to explain to people how insanely, dumb, petty, selfish, immature and childish kids and teens can actually be. The issue is just when people can’t comprehend this and instead of looking inward “like you did” they just blame the writers and call that bad writing due to their own failure to understand whats even at play. 💀 Of course you’d do something differently than the main characters, you have an omnipotent 3rd person Out of universe perspective that they don’t, alone with years worth of mental and physical experience intelligence. Just wait until you hit your late 20s and realize that you're supposed to have Kakashi levels of competence / professionalism by now.
@flameking21782 жыл бұрын
I mean to be fair, in Naruto and in a lot of fantasy anime, you are literally trained from childhood to do a specific task, have access to a ton of resources if you demonstrate competence, and are given practical experience immediately once you become skilled enough despite your age (like how they were adding 15 year old geniuses to their special forces). So in that case, if you trained from elementary school, had 20 years of experience, and were able to apply that experience as soon as your were able without having to worry about labor laws or resources, then you realistically could reach that level at late 20s especially if you were naturally gifted in that field. So basically, in anime 30 is equivalent to 40 since you start training in your discipline from 8 instead of 18. Once you add 10 years to all anime characters, suddenly their looks and behaviors start making perfect sense. That only applies to fantasy stories revolving around a single activity though. I've got no way to explain animes like Tokyo Revenger.

About the female character too old to date statements, I believe one of the reason to explain this is that we asian have a cultural thing going on with the older generation. Our parents expect us to marry young and have kids before 30s. My mom made a big deal about the fact she had me after she passed 30s. Another instance is when I watch news about a four years old kid got bit by a dog. I was surprised that the mom, who is 28 years old atm, had the kid when she was just 24. However, my mom said that’s perfectly normal, which made me shock. Of course this is just anecdotal evidence, some asian countries out there may not take this as seriously but some may be even worse. For example, I suggest you to google leftover women in China, it is quite ironic because there are 20 million more men than women in China.

His issue only comes when its just a haphazard thing thats just thrown in and doesn’t gel with the world, nor add anything to it, so it breaks his immersion. To its credit, it IS odd to have a seemingly realistic world, with one specific thing out of the ordinary thats never established or questioned but the universe still tries to tote itself as if its realistic. Its probably why a guy like connor might have 0 issue with sentient stands or aliens being confirmed things in jojo, but flips at stuff like revengers ages. @@thekamotodragonNah, I think it's because it's already engrained in most of the authors. Older manga and anime, where there are a lot of them that do target kids and teenagers with appropriate character ages and stories, I remember watching a lot of old 90's anime for kids. Cooking Master Boy is more appropriate for kids than Shoukugeki no Soma, even though the main characters are around the same age. These kids have grown out of that phase and now want to write their own stories with these specific features in mind. But they also want to put their wildest ideas forward without being constrained by what kids or teenagers actually like. The author got older, but the character they loved when they were kids did not. Or this is just my nostalgia talking. Are kids anime still a thing? Edit: I guess it's somewhat similar to "edgy-fication" in the magical girl genre. Where these authors grew alongside these shows. Now they're older and still love magical girls, but they also want to put their own spin then other authors follow and now it becomes its own trope. Obviously these examples are from the anime that I grew up with. I don't know what the experience of other people is like. Especially from someone older than me.

The reason Tokyo Revengers' mangaka made all of the characters so young is because he thought that only 13 year-olds would have so much freetime to mess around fighting so much. One enemy gang in the manga was full of 18 year-olds and one of them said something along the lines of "Most of us in our gang are basically adults so we have to start going to college and have jobs and shit so we can't keep play-fighting with little kids on our freetime forever"

It either comes down to cultural differences or forgetting that as kids we used to read "light novels" in the west, too. What are Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys? Animorphs and Goosebumps? All these digests we used to read as kids and the variety of scenarios they were involved in, we now digest the Japanese equivalent but as jaded adults.

The ones I'm familiar with at least TRIED to explain why children keep ending up in crazy situations and try to deal with them however they can. Stuff like, their parents being investigators so they follow them around for kid-inappropriate stuff and the like. When anime does the same, it feels less jarring to me too. Something like Case Closed/Detective Conan for example, where many of the cases involving the ACTUAL children tend to be about more harmless stuff like going on a for fun treasure hunt or finding a missing pet, and the ones that actually do involve proper scary stuff like murder and crime is usually specifically because they tagged along with Kogoro, the actual, adult detective (usually without permission, because they were curious and sneaky as kids just are).
@jamestomato17442 жыл бұрын
I'm not entirely certain about this, but from what little knowledge I have about the Animorph's at least from a retrospective, the books were actually kinda messed up. The kids, as they got older, were really screwed up from all the fighting they had to do against the Yeerks. One of them, Rachel, basically became an action-addled adrenaline junkie who enjoys combat and is to some degree obsessed with it (like a high of sorts) (now I'm not actually sure if this was what happened per say, as I got this info from a youtube retrospective video - so take what I say with a grain of salt). So at least with Animorph's, it was more like an exploration of what would happen to kids in that setting, while also appealing to the specific demographic.

The naruto one is believable, in that specific setting they were in times of war/very few years after the war (they would still be weary) and they were forced to train kids to be ninjas and kill to be able to have enough man power. @felix77202 жыл бұрын
They were trained from the age of 6 to be soliders/ninjas and they're 12 at the start, not 10. Tokyo Revengers doesn't make sense, but people need to take character's environments they grew up in into consideration. Of course a typical 12 year old wouldn't act like that, but they definitely weren't raised as typical kids. Also, you're totally right about the Uchiha. They become obsessed with revenge very easily.

@@abhijitpadhi625 How many child soliders have you met before? You act like they raise children the same way we do. They were 12 years old from the start of Naruto and they had been training since they were 5-6 for war. Part of the reason their children can be trained so young is because of chakra. You start training kids to do this for 100s-1000s of years evolution would adapt. It's not that unbelievable, you grow up faster mentally depending on your environment. By your logic Reiner, Annie and Berthold wouldn't have been as mature as they were either when they attacked Paradis, Same thing with Gabi and Falco when they infiltrated Paradis.
@abhijitpadhi6252 жыл бұрын
@@felix7720 For one, Gabi and Falco aren't mature AT ALL. If you think Gabi and Falco are mature, then you haven't been paying close attention when you watch AoT. All their actions (especially Gabi) are that of stupid kids trying to do things they shouldn't. So you even saying Gabi and Falco being mature is laughable. And also Reiner, Annie and Berthold weren't mature as well. They were just scared kids with a lot of power doing what they are told because they were afraid of being eaten back in Marley if they failed their mission. By the time they mature a little, they have aged to ages of 15-17 (in season 1-3 of AoT) and 19-21 (in the final season). The flashbacks show how immature and scared they were when they first came to Paradis. Isayama has created these characters PERFECTLY as per their ages. As for Naruto, Sasuke taking on the responsibility to avenge his whole clans murder, at age of 11-12, without any outside pressure to do so or anything (like Marley did to Reiner and the others in AoT) is a JOKE. Seriously, you just sound like the typical toxic Naruto fan unwilling to hear any criticism of the show. When in reality, Naruto is a mediocre show at best (unlike AoT which you mentioned)
@_rooibosp97352 жыл бұрын
Most of the shows they talk about is from 少年漫画 meaning comic books for boys. They are mostly targeted at people under 16. Therefor publishers will always have a incentive to make the characters younger than 16, and making characters relatable to the main reader. Even if the writer wanted the characters to be more older, he will be willing to sacrifice that to have his manga serialized on famous Weekly Manga. The age settings of characters are the age that the weekly manga is targeted at. It is not based on the physical/mental matureness of the character. Even though Japanese anime seem to be in one category they come from different media with different targets. The manga artists may have had to alter the age to have there story published in any weekly manga. There life depends on wether or not they get the story published, so they will be happy to alter the age depending on the target. When you think of the staring point every successful manga artist once stood, it seems kind of cruel to point out anime age settings making no sense.

The point of Tokyo Revenger characters being young if for the following reasons. 1.) They needed to be in a school setting, so they could be a delinquent and also highlight how cruel even young biker gangs can be, which the author was apart of one. 2.) The main characters needed to be mainly younger than the other gang members, who also need to be in school, to highlight them being a young prodigy in the gang world. 3.) SPOILERS they needed to be young enough where there can be a time skip later to them being young adults, to show the decline of Mickey, and also highlight how mistakes even in adolescence can effect adulthood. Overall I don't think making the characters young is a big deal, aslong as nothing illegal is shown (Unless it's to highlight the cruelty of an act, like in Berserk) than I see it as completely fine. The parents not being involved is as simple as them just not being there, it's fiction it doesn't need to make sense. Like how it doesn't make sense why super heroes don't constantly see and help each other in comic books, or how it doesn't make sense why every late shogun era manga doesn't have guns, which existed then. somethings are just supposed to be "It doesn't matter" in stories.

They were young but they were never written to be all knowing or anything like that. The only characters i could think off acting that way would be sasuke and neji; two character's who were very traumatized and so it seemed more realistic to me that they would be ridiculously serious. I never once thought in those two shows that it was weird for someone that age to be doing or acting like they were, but there are plenty of shows that make me laugh out loud with how ridiculous the character are acting; even when it's meant to be a serious scene.

As a kid/teenager you're still at that stage of dreams and fun and learning so they'd rather write about teenagers because they probably miss those days and think being a kid/teenager is just in general the best time of your life so why not add crazy out of this world scenarios and powers to them.

to be fair, there are some very very OP literature/arts people that started their career at a super young age. eh, for perspective, the youngest mangakas that debuted is apparently like 15, and their are child prodigee musicians and authors with similar talent at that age.

I think with the naruto argument isn't really good since how the era work isn't similar too the real life era when it was released i think its more notable if getting compared to irl is the era after the ww1 or ww2 since they did go through a war before the main series and there more old time than modern so how age would be looked as will be different

6:30 Honestly Naruto didnt bother me much. It had already been established at the beginning with Haku that extremely young people can be extremely powerful, with Kakashi going so far as to say there were people younger than Naruto that were stronger than Kakashi (I wish we got to see some of them, as massive as Naruto's world and scale were it still felt like we didn't see enough of it somehow). If your entire clan had been murdered in cold blood and you'd seen it happen, even a child would want revenge. Especially if it were a child in Naruto's world, given what we knew about it. And even more especially if it was that level of a betrayal. That didn't feel unrealistic to me, honestly.

It's funny how most romance anime are set in highschool but the real nitty gritty of relationships are experienced in your 20s and above. There's some really interesting and hard hitting stories to be told for that age range in that context and there's only so many times we can see 'puppy love'. For example, what if the character is older and they're getting worried they're 'past their prime' ala 40 year old virgin. Also it would get rid of garnt's problem and characters would actually act their age. A high schooler is never that profound when it comes to romance.

idk man, in my town the only gangs were kids 13-16 yo, and i mean like serious shit (for their age), drugs, fights, illegal gambling all of that. So yeah, for me tokyo revengers was relatable, and it brought some old memories.

2:00 In the era set for Tokyo revengers the yankii gang shit was on it like that so it does make sense, but I get they could be abit older. I think we need to be creative in our minds though and enjoy it as anime not box in a norm

the thing about Tokyo revengers is that they are in gangs and in the us in middle school and up to a certain point in high school there were stabbings and shootings done by kids in gangs. Maybe it's unbelievable for them because they never had to deal with that kind of environment but it was pretty bad that cops were put in schools and we had to go through metal detectors every day to get into the school

@@hammurabii.3173 there's time travel in the story it's like expecting comics to be realistic. Also dosen't seem like you're getting the point, my example was that it's not unrealistic for teenagers to act in extremely violent ways but then again realism in a time travel story that has a character like mikey and dragon isn't something I'm really looking for

Ay bruh. Erased was actually dope. And that was the whole reason. Where the main guy can witness something he could've fixed, then time reverses and he fixes it. Or tries his best. That's why he went back so far in time bc he was trying to build a better future by trying to fix everything he possibly could. And he knew what he was doing and he was conscious of what he was doin, so he enlisted and protected his friends. And shit bro, that story was heartbreaking.

@@alecfongy3175 (PART 5 SPOILERS TO THOSE READING THIS THREAD!!) When you think about it, Mista was the oldest member of the main JoBros to survive Part 5 at 18. As Giorno and Trish are 15, and Fugo is 16. (although abandoned the mission prior, still a survivor) The only adult there was Mista. And Narancia at 17 was the only child death, as Bruno is 20, and Abbacchio is 21. Well, maybe Coco Jumbo is the oldest since some accounts suggest the turtle is practically a JoBro and I don’t blame that possibility, Mr. President carries at times. Also turtle, they even state during The Grateful Dead encounter turtles live for quite a while, so Coco Jumbo could easily be above 21 at the least. But the question also asks if Polnareff is one? I don’t think so as his screentime is about the same as Koichi’s

@@corrinflakes9659 Yes Polnareff is one but can't really do much but talk, Giorno and Trish may not be adults but they have real power and influence that no one can really go against, especially Giorno. I agree to an extent, hell we have a real life story of a boy I think like 10-12 or something who figured out where all these ancient aztec or mayan temple or city were based off a satellite map of just jungle. He traced it via a star pattern or something crazy and every single spot he said there would be a temple or city there was one. So yea, some times a kid can figure out something that some one in the field for a couple decades or even more couldn't. Crazy I know.

I dunno, it's been a while since I watched Golden Time, but I remember the characters acting like they had some severe psychological problems. I also vaguely remember meming something like "Ghost Benri". I think the MC turned into a ghost at one point or something... as I said, been a while.

I also think it would be refreshing for shows that have a ton of fan service to just make their characters legal adults. I mean, come on Japan, we all just want a guilt free wank. Why do you gotta make it weird? Like, not weird in a fun way, weird in a "I can't have this saved on my computer because I'll get flagged for CP" kind of a way....

This reminds me of when I first watched Sailor moon and thought all the protagonists were closer to 18 but then later found out they were supposed to be 13 or 14, and I KNOW that's not a huge age difference but...........you never really see any of these kid's parents, and they are just dealing with SO much stuff on their own that....which is something I don't see ANY 13 or 14 year old doing.
