Love them both, but JoJo is bizarre for the sake of it; to me the most "bizarre" part of JoJo are the stylistic and aesthetic choices like clothing, hair, color palettes, and plot devices. Baki uses absurdist masculinity in the chaddest way possible as to drive the narrative and character motivations to a very entertaining effect. While I'd call JoJo "weird" (in a good way) I call Baki absurd. (In a good way.) Edit: Not trying to correct you or be contrary, it's just an observation.

JoJo is like a culture. The aesthetic, the memes, the multiple stories, and how flamboyant it is just mixed with the Internet era perfectly. Baki is just an insanely masculine experience. It’s fun as hell, excellent to watch/read, but it’s considered niche by 2021 standards. If it was widely available in the early-2000s it’d be a lot more popular. And I know that sounds crazy to say anything is more niche compared to JoJo, but 2021 is wild.

Itagaki knows his shit when it comes to anatomy, early Baki is very traditionally proportionate for a manga and at one point the limbs go crazy long and the characters get paper thin shredded. When you get to part 4 is the best of both worlds because the character's limbs shrink to a more reasonable lenght, but we still keep the crazy body mass and very low body fat.

One of the side characters got a power up by IMAGINING HIMSELF WITH MORE JOINTS SO HE COULD PUNCH FASTER THAN SOUND. Baki characters literally use imagination as a power up. One of the characters is a CLONE of samurai from 300 years ago and they infuse the clone with the samurai's SOUL to give him back his memories and skills.

My favourite bullshit moment in Baki is the "imagination fight" during the battle between Baki and Yujiro. Baki is good because Itagaki Keisuke knows how the line between realistic and fiction. Stuff in Baki is ridiculous yet somehow realistic because the author know the limit of the human body and martial arts to stretch that logic as far as possible. The next arc which is Prehistoric Pickle Arc will be the most ridiculous and hype in that season if that ever come.

My favorite fight was Hanayama vs Speck and like throughout the fight they hype up speck being unstoppable by almost destroying the statue of liberty and murdering security guards meant to take really serious damage but Hanayama is built differently that his punch nearly takes out speck and the fight is amazing

The manga books are on a whole different level and very well drawn And there are some fighting philosophy that are on point. If you ever thrown a strong punch you might notice that there is really a mini second where your mind kind of has to reboot after and you are slightly unconscious which is a moment that baki capitalized on because he is so incredibly fast

The Baki fandom is weirdly inactive even though its popular. Barely any memes, fanfics, or fanart. Little rule 34 even of the female characters. I only found one doujinshi. The fandom mostly does discussions and mostly on KZbin and Reddit. My only guess is from what I've seen Baki is a show where the biggest fans complain about it the most. The positive discussions are about the fights and the wackiness. A lot of fans want a better written story and character development, especially after the Musashi arc. Most Baki fans lean more towards manga as well. After season one part 1 of the Netflix anime came out a lot of watchers speed through the manga so we watch the new episodes without the massive hype online. This, lack of merch, and its divergence from a more traditional anime style( Big muscles are not that common in anime ) play into how such a popular series has so little fan works. the most fan works are Baki animators who animate scenes from the Pickle and Musashi arcs. My favorite is Japar10 I highly recommend them.

What also makes Baki really stand out is, despite all of this it is NOT supernatural. Those monsters are people, it's all flesh blood and bone. No one has powers or magic. Yet they feel like they would just tear through most of the shonen universes without breaking a sweat, they're such beasts. It's like everyone is a mix of Guts and Kenshiro, but also having a really great time. I think the best way to explain it is it's a world where there are NO limits to what can be achieved with training your body and mind.

But to be honest, excluding the hanmas, there is only one character who is Japanese and has defeated all others (I haven't read the latest book) which is Musashi Miyamoto who is around Yujiro level. All other characters are quite relative to each other.
