I’ve been a big Boruto anime “defender” for a while now, being that I don’t shit on it at any given turn. I found this review VERY fair and love how you actually point out both the positives and negatives. I always hate when I hear “there’s no character development” from haters, because that’s so extremely false. I think something you missed in the Chunin exams arc was that most of Boruto’s cheating mostly revolves around him letting his friends down due to his own overconfidence and lack of preparation before hand. I appreciate the anime for the fact that it CAN give more time to the characters while the manga lays the groundwork for the anime to put “meat” on. I also think a lot of the anime only stuff will be more legitimized in the grand scheme, because there are subtle hints at most major anime only acts being influenced by the Kara organization, such as the New 7 Ninja Swordsman and Byakuya Clan having “backers” and the tech from the Jugo arc and Mitsuki arc “vanishing”. Great video!

@goran stojanovic I used to follow 2 of the biggest Naruto/Boruto reviewer's (Animeballsdeep & Naruto explained) on KZbin. I don't follow Naruto explained anymore but that's a different issue. Lots of people din't know and still do not know that everything the anime does is canon. The only reason I know this is because of the 2 channels I mentioned. That being said the manga and the anime started out as 2 separate canon stories that would eventually end the same. The anime was supposed to be a slice of life with ninja's and the manga would be more like Naruto. The writer's said this them selfs. Somewhere down the line the writers changed course and decided to fuse the manga and anime. The anime is literally filling in everything the manga left out or skipped over do to it being a monthly release. Even though the slice of life is canon some of it can be considered filler because it doesn't do much for the overall story. Instead of being angry at the Naruto crow you should direct your anger at the writers because they made a mess out of Boruto.

The Boruto anime hate is so undeserved. For me personally it got me back into this franchise after being burnt out after the long drawn out war arc of Shippuden. I can’t believe it’s the most popular thing to hate even with the supposed “die hard” Narutards. I didn’t even like the first 13-20 or so episodes but it clicked when we went to other ninja villages we’ve never seen at all in the main series not even in the real filler of Shippuden. I’ve been enjoying a lot of the episodes of the Boruto anime for awhile now (since the Mist Village School Trip Arc) and this new Hozuki Castle/Mujina Bandits arc in the anime is straight FIRE. Yes there are some bad episodes but that's every show. I don't think any anime is perfect. Y'all just want action but slice of life anime can be just as good. Boruto is very rewarding! I don't know why Narutards think Naruto was perfect especially with the poor direction Shippuden went. Anything Boruto does will EVER be worse than Kaguya. It’s sad most Naruto fans turned there back on it even though people BEGGED for years for a part 3 during the Shippuden years... It’s done more for this franchise than anything in the video game department that’s for sure lol So glad Boruto keeps impressing naysayers!! #RespectBoruto

I have to say, one of the best, if not the best review on the Boruto anime on youtube. I agree with most of your point and disagree with only very few. I think your criticism's about the show are damn near perfect and make sense. Usually when I hear people hating on Boruto, their criticisms seem very shallow and/or just plain wrong. But the flaws that you mentioned are legitimate flaws of the show which exist. I am happy that someone made an effort to go in-depth and find the actual flaws of the show rather than just regurgitating the same shallow popular discourse about the show. Personally I love the show. I know it has flaws and the ones you mentioned are mostly what I also think the flaws of the show are. But still it pulls be back every week to watch it, I just love watching the characters. I don't know why but I love the show. And hence as a fan of the show, I am extremely happy to see an unbiased opinion showing the pro's and con's of the show exactly as they should be. Thank you..

There's a lot of stuff I agree with and a lot of stuff I disagree with but your criticisms of the show are so genuine that even I as a fan have to acknowledge you for this because the unfair criticism that this show gets from popular KZbinrs and influential people really hurt the show's reputation especially when they make the show out to be so horrible that it ruined Naruto's legacy when it really doesn't but made it so compelling in a lot of aspects and adds depth to the lore, the new modern day Ninja world society, and the characters that you can't ignore the great progression the series has taken. Boruto is a good series. It's not bad and it's not great like it's predecessor but at least when it's ready to tell a great story, its ready to do just that. Just watched the full thing.I strongly disagree on your overall point of the anime having too much non-connected stories.It has some of that.But for the most part the anime only arcs developed the side characters like you said & connects to the main story which you said wasn’t the case.The Jugo arc for example Sumire not only developed more but her reason for joining the scientific ninja team was shown which ties into her role in the manga which is an important one.The academy stuff gives detail to Boruto’s conflict with his dad which is resolved in the Chunin Exams arc.And those are just a few examples.The anime is the full complete story of Boruto so far.It add more detail to each part of the story from the manga arcs/main story that it adapts to the side characters & world building which the manga lacks etc. I disagreed with some points here & there in every arc although for the most part I agreed with your points on most arcs.The arcs I think you got completely wrong were the Cho Cho arc,where she got much needed character development which you mentioned but still despite that you still wrote it off just cause you didn’t like the body guard mission set up.Also her relationship development with Mitsuki was great.Then there’s the Jugo arc which had great character development for Sumire which ties into the manga like I said,Jugo developed as well & a great message was given.The villain was the only thing really lacking in that arc.And lastly the time travel arc.The power scaling & villain were the only problems I think the arc had.Oh & the Sasuke chakra thing.Other than that the writing was great & had some of the best moments of the series so far.The emotional scenes,comedy,character development & character interactions were great.Overall I think the Good outweighs the bad from that arc & the anime as a whole.I agree on your points about the manga though.Boruto is the best anime & manga currently running.

Byuka bad guy getting away what will we do then naruto swoops in at lightspeed Konohamaru struggles against one zetzu what will team 7 do against the others but sasuke already killed them all off screen And the "development" you talk about is not very great there are only like 3 side characters that are actually interesting and because of the slice of life they learn a lesson regress back then learn it again after the sumerie arc she just went back to the way she was the only reason she was put in the scientific tech department was because they needed a reason to put her in the manga to satisfy borusumi fans The time travel arc was terrible you just brush off the terrible villain who shall bot be named like good villains especially one who should have been a better overarching threat but was just terrible and again I can deal with bad power scaling but this was just terrible really bad And boruto being the best ongoing manga and anime right now really dude Mha manga is fire right now the villains are more complex and the sensei isn't a joke fodder like konohamaru

I actually like boruto a lot, both the character and the show , the thing I pretty much wanted the most was to see more of the new characters and I've been getting a lot of it, but Yeah things have been going pretty slow and my biggest hope is that the future scene isn't the actual end of the entire story I wasn't the biggest fan of the manga originally mostly thanks to the art so I ended up dropping it but I hear it's really good right now so I'll probably give it a shot to see what the anime is going to cover, I'm a little worried since the arc isn't actually done from what I heard and the manga is still monthly but we'll see what happens

While am not that big of a fan of the Boruto series as a whole ( at least from when I dropped it ) Boruto has quite a good ammount of moments that I absolutely love. It really is a mixbag for the most part for me but I think I might give the series a chance again now that is adapting the manga. I would love if you get the chance to talk about the animation of the series one day, keep up the great work Ajay!!

Yeah the anime hasn't been that great barring a few parts, but the manga is really good. Hopefully the anime does justice to the Kara arc and the other manga materials coming soon.

Great review and generally echoes my sentiments. The anime arcs offer nice development for secondary and tertiary characters and have generally high highs, with nice bits of sakuga dropped here and there even in otherwise unimportant episodes, but overall is very uneven and suffers from being disconnected and forced to halt character development and danger to avoid contradicting the manga. The manga on the other hand is a very well written, tightly focused story with an excellent rhythm of plot develoment, tension, battles, and twists. It started a bit rough, with Ikemoto's artistic inexperience and the need to retell the story of the film hampering it somewhat, but as it progresses into new content and especially after introducing Kara and Kawaki, it really comes into its own, both narratively and artistically. It's been firing on all cylinders for, well, quite a while now, and seems to continue topping itself. In terms of general fandom reception, I think that for the most part people feel burned by the anime (especially after the Jugo and Urashiki arcs), while the manga has rewarded those who stuck with it, gaining more and more popularity as time goes on. In the West, at least. There is now quite a strong divide between anime and manga watchers, though, generally, everyone is looking forward to the post-quarantine return of the anime, as it is going to start moving into manga territory late next month.
@demonking-zm3rs4 жыл бұрын
Honestly the dislike for the manga makes sense if you enjoy a coherent story. The manga feels like cliff notes dedicating months to fights that dont add anything. Like the delta fight made Hima who's barely a character in the manga a plot device. Sealing Naruto didn't lead to anything and the stories treatment of Kara makes all the arcs before meaningless Honestly the manga is overhyped in the west
@franklynpimentel68974 жыл бұрын
To be honest I would MUCH rather have Boruto be more of a slice of life series, and have it focus mainly on Naruto and the relationship he has with his family, bc I feel that"s the more interesting stuff. Like I dont hate Boruto, but I feel like he's more interesting when he's with his family and if they made the series more like that while still having some missions and story arcs here and there and not have it just be about Boruto, then I would watch the living hell out of that series.

To me the Boruto series has been pretty aimless for the most part. It might be because they want more material from the manga to adapt but 150~ episodes of content that could have been covered in 2 seasons is quite excessive. They should have adopted the seasonal route (same with Black Clover because if the studio went the route of MHA then it would be way more popular in the west and not written off) or made the manga bi monthly so there would be more content or just held off doing an anime almost immediately after the end of Shippuden especially since the stories that the anime have been telling so up until the new arc begins have been far from compelling. The state of Boruto just feels like a series of decisions that were not fully thought through. Just my opinion tho.
@gd54664 жыл бұрын
They don’t care about the Manga. The series seems to be aim at a different target audience(younger audience) And they’ve always wanted it it to be an episodic series for the most part.
@Jheat754 жыл бұрын
A huge chunk of the series boil down to Boruto’s perspective as well as the World building in the new era and set up the movie recap within the span of 50 episodes. In my opinion they should’ve tried to cram the entire first year into this plot point you should’ve just got there when you got there and allow the arcs that come before to resolve and stand on their own

One of the best Boruto reviews I've come across! I do disagree with you though on the ending of the Byakuya Arc. To me, Naruto's appearance and show of power served to highlight to the audience the sheer difference in power scale between him and Boruto, especially as Boruto's overconfidence was becoming more and more apparent. It felt more like a moment of foreshadowing towards Boruto finding out Naruto's true power, while also framing the difference in power to any viewers who hadn't seen Naruto before watching Boruto. What did irk me though was seeing poor Ryogi being locked up when it was clear he was a victim. Going forward I'm going to keep watching the anime and reading the manga, as I doubt the peripheral cast will get much more development in the manga so it might be all we see of them. It's worth suffering through the odd bad mini arc to see these characters continue to grow, and Boruto Manga is generally head and shoulders above OG Naruto filler.

I agree with some of your points on the Urashiki time skip arc. That entire arc was just painful to watch from start to finish, making it one of the worst arcs in the entire Naruto franchise for me personally. I don't know how people can say that arc was good other than being blinded by nostalgia
@lordrimuru20034 жыл бұрын

The anime does have a lot of problems, its really unfortunate that the manga is monthly too. As a big Naruto fan that has watched every single episode (filler) and all the movies and also still play a couple naruto games, I still enjoy watching the anime despite all the problems it has, I do complain about a lot of aspects it has but I still like to watch it and know everything about it just like I did and still do with Naruto. It was really refreshing to see a complete fair and unbiased review, thanks a lot for this video. Wish there was more reviews like this one.
@HazLight44264 жыл бұрын
The anime is the manga but fleshed out. How can you love the manga and not the anime. In terms of story, world building and characters developments, the anime is better. The anime will get to where the manga is, that's something people don't understand. It's like people not enjoying the ride and just wanting to be there already. The way people criticize things is just dumb tbh.
@TobenaiSakana4 жыл бұрын
The anime is dragged out to death and the characters have no flavor. it feels like they're wasting time and not developing anything. There are so many plot points that they could make good use of, but just forget about them and move on to plain waste of time episodes. The manga has a story and characters that matter.
@AnimeAjay4 жыл бұрын
@@TobenaiSakana Exactly this. How anyone could watch my video and post a comment like Nero VII's is beyond me.
@SuzakuX4 жыл бұрын
The anime might flesh out minor characters but rarely does it contribute to the overarching narrative of the series. The manga tells a continually ongoing story, and the anime injects its own disconnected, often superfluous stories in between
@powercore20004 жыл бұрын
As someone who hasn't followed Boruto at all since the movie release, I really appreciate this review. Its a fair setting of expectations for what to get into and the difference in the mediums, and an honest assessment of the show and manga's qualities. Based on this, I think I'll go for the manga's content rather than the Anime's. I'm a stickler for well plotted stories, and it seems like the manga will deliver the narrative more palatable for me personally. Thanks for work you put into this! It's a great expectations setting guide for what a newcomer would get themselves into.

I'm kinda disappointed at the reading of the manga it feels like maybe you fell into general hype. Spoilers: Characters getting shafted is the usual default criticism. But for example the ongoing the fights don't add anything and as a monthly series having a 3 to 4 chapter fight that leads to Naruto getting sealed to then reverse that decision and start out exactly where things started is bad. The reliance on the anime to add context to the story isn't something that should be praised so while the anime gets to be the definitive version they also hold the blame if something doesn't add up(also the fact that the manga f**cling around means they can't move the characters or plot ) Kara also gets thrown away with the outer/Inner thread mopped up to make way for Aliens and even Urashiki falls victim to the manga pacing being bad(Again a character shown in shippuden created by Kishimoto but Kodachi doesn't have time so f**k him I guess) . Delta vs Naruto added nothing but Hima being a plot device. Boro vs team 7 added nothing Boroshiki looks cool but he was already finished and it was just to build hype Even the current fight adds nothing. Naruto and Sasuke are no stronger and adding Boruto screams Boroshiki. Ao and Shojoji add nothing the KK plot and that stupid line from Naruto where there trying to force a connection. Also Shikamaru being treated as the Muppet for exposition its instead of the kids just feels.... Its all hype moments with no real care for story structure the assumption that the anime will just fix it is a problem. Hell Kodachi kills Victor an inner for no reason one of our main protagonist killed and it added nothing
