It's super important to note, that you saying the animation quality stayed consistent throughout is why the team on this anime deserves ALLLLL the props. They actually ran out of budgeting before Episode 27. But they decided to push back the production, until they could get the budgeting to do the grandstand finale we ended up getting. That being said, the two movies are basically them going back with the money they got with the anime, and touching up with some stellar scenes added. PRIMARILY, in the finale. Like, it honestly puts every thing else ever in existence to shame. Loved the video!

@Tahj Pollock that reasoning could be aplied to everyone who diednin the final battle. Nia was a spiralmlifeform seeded with code from the anti sprials that highjacked her she wasnt just code the fact she faded was an asspull way to ring a bit more emotion from the last battle.
@vonfaustien3957

@Tahj Pollock ive seen it and i know whatnit said but whats said doesn't make sense given earlier ita started that the antispiral program had only overwritten her and not that she was solely antispiral code. One throw away line as she vanishes doesnt change the fact its a contrived death meant for emotional shock value

One of the things I've pointed out to myself after rewatching Gurren Lagann is why would they use CGI, though so far they've been doing great with their animation. From the very first moment the antispirals appear on screen they stand out so much, you know that they are alien. An IMO there isn't a better way to introduce something so inorganic and unalive in this otherwise chaotic, but organic world.

I loved TTGL for its realism of grief and depression. Grief for loosing Kamina, showing us slowly the 5 phases and letting us know its ok to not be ok and take time to heal from trauma. Showing you one of many ways you can fight and shout back at the monsters inside you without substance abuse/self harm. Spiral power being will/determination/drive/self-esteem/whatever and Anti-Spirals being intrusive thoughts "Its not good enough", "Im not special" (they LITERALLY say it to Nia), "you cant do that/anything". This is my go-to "I need a smile" show.

One of my favorit thing about the end is a lesson with that. They talk about simon using the spiral power to bring back nia. ...he actually never denies that he couldnt, implying that if he wanted he could bring her back. But the whole lesson is that those in the past build the future for those left, and clinging to that past is not the right way.

hAHAHAHA,,, Your reactions are so relatable. This series is hands down the absolute greatest feat of storytelling in our time. If you browse forums, reddits and videos they are filled with comments from people who say this anime helped them break through depression, loosing loved ones, finding a will to live and its easy to understand why. It saved me too from ongoing existential angst and dredd and got me invested in living to the fullest once again. I have so much love for this story, the creaters and all my fellow diggers forging their way forward in life and laughing in the face of impossible odds! It is a heart breaking, beautiful journey that simultaniously shows us the best and worst of what we will experience in life. It breaks my heart even still when I think about Simone loosing Nia in the end. It sounds odd but I miss this series in the same way that I miss a great friend that I havn't seen in years and I really hope and wish for a return to that universe. Even if they covered the Spiral Kings life I would be stoked as ever since I saw Gurrenn Lagann....it has been difficult to find anything else that can accomplish 1 tenth of the experience this show gives. 52:50 In the movie they take it two steps further. The pure energy of the Anti-Spiral's attack takes Tengan Toppa Gurren Lagann and houses it inside of a Simon shaped Spiral energy house called Super Tengan Toppa Gurren Lagann. Then when they do the Russian nesting doll scene, Simon straight up destroys all but Gurren Lagann, meaning it's only his Spiral power against the Anti-Spiral. Simon breaks through with Gurren Lagann, only for Gurren to be torn apart. Even Lagann takes a few hits before launching Simon directly at the Anti-Spiral's main body. And a silent fist fight between Simon and the Anti-Spiral occurs.

Better yet, STTGL isn't Simon's form.... it's Kamina. Even in their final battle, every one of them had Kamina in their hearts, so much so their most powerful, largest mech ever took on his likeness, simply because he gave them that much hope.

Memories . . . . Of a younger, Anime-Curious soul wandering youtube for new EDM tracks when finding one with Yoko as the background image. After surfing the comments this young man decided to take the plunge and find somewhere to watch it. He found a random Anime site and proceded to get sucked in by unbelievable action seauences, gorgeous visuals, and hilarious comedy. Only to have his heart gut punched into his balls and make him experience true sadness (to the point of actual tears) for the first time watching any medium ever. After this there was no turning back. Through long nights and endless emptional roller coaster rides this young man gets up from his bed, series finished, immediately itching for more. And a new Anime nerd was born. This young man was me, and this series will always be permanantly affixed to my number one slot for this reason. It was hype, hilarious, heartbreaking, and goddamn balls to the walls epic all at once. I love you TTGL, thank you so much

How could you not give a win to "I have the Best Wife in the Universe Swing"? But seriously though, this was one of the best animes of all time. the pacing, the animation, the story the characters were all done with maximum effort put behind them. But I got to mention the final battle: there were TWO versions of it. I don't know where I can find the other one. Definitely want to see a review of though if you can find it.

The scene where he said "it's not goodbye forever, you will always be here with me, right?" really got me teared up a bit, a very clever callback from his "he lives as a part of me" speech, and touching nonetheless

I legit cried watching this. I remember watching all the dubbed episodes when I was younger and seeing a review of this is like a punch to the emotional organ. EDIT: One thing I like to point out when each member of team Dai-Gurren were about to die, they did it with a smile on their face.

When Simon yelled "let's see you grit those teeth!" Just as Kamina had done for him before, that's when I knew exactly what kind of person Simon had become. He wasn't just Simon the Digger, nor was he the supreme leader. He was all of that, plus being the second coming of Kamina. Simon completely absorbed those who'd died before him. That's one of the reasons why his "my drill is the drill that creates the heavens" speech hit me so damn hard.

You really did my man LordGenome dirty. He's piloting a two person mech, by himself, without using his freaking hands at all and wrecking the shit out his opponents mech. After his opponent finally got the upper hand he just casually proceeded to wrack open the cockpit of his own giant mech, exclaiming that you should never let a mech do your job and just walks down his mech to pummel the mech of his opponent into submission with his own freaking bare hands. And don't forget he produced literal flames as hair on his bald ass head. Instead you just skipped the entire fight and gave a win to the music.

One thing that I think really sells Lordgenome is how he threw down with Lagann ON HIS OWN. He just. Without his own broken mech fought Lagann on even terms and that to me is an amazing finale to the beastman war.

Hey, I found your channel not that long ago and its been an amazing way to grow fond of these different shows and worlds that I hadn't seen in such a long time, so Thanks for that, on that note, I'm not even sure if you'd do a movie but I'd love to see an anime wins of Bunny Girl Senpai's movie, maybe split into a few different parts, although I do recognise that winning an entire movie would take a lot of time and well, effort, even if you don't, Love the channel, keep doing what your doing.

I just wanted to note something that you said at 38:06 about it being the same scene as the one in episode 1 and while i think it's a call back, there's a theory that I subscribe to that states the man in the first episode is not in fact Simon, evidence? well theres just one main thing.. when the man in the first episode walks we can hear a jangling sound that has only ever been heard from one character.. Kamina's father. So the theory is that one of the companions and quite possibly leader of the team that the Spiral King was from was in fact led by Kamina's father who once controlled the Gurren and that history is somehow repeating itself in hopes of getting a better ending.

Man it's been so, so many years since I first saw gurren lagann. I personally don't like replaying story driven games, and rewatching anime/movies/series, all for the same reason. Once you know the story, the reason to watch it is gone. Although, this video just made all those memories rush back, getting me all emotional. I had forgotten just how great this anime is. I really should rewatch it someday.
