Honestly, the absolutely most satisfying part of this anime are the sometimes several minutes long scenes of Rimuru rapidly acquiring and combining/upgrading new skill especially his demon lord awakening, with just such a long chain of "Skill acquired; Upgrading Skill; Combining Skill; New Link Found; New Skill Acquiring; Combining Skill; New Link Found" Like geez, i haven't found any other show that can scratch that same powergamey itch that this show can.

The only other series I've found that feel similar is a webtoon called "The Gamer". Main character gets an ability that let's him treat himself and the world as if it were an RPG, and he metagames the hell out of it to min-max stats and builds to cheese through everything. Where everyone else has to train and endure just to get a little stronger, he can mindlessly autofarm fodder monsters to level up instantly, allocate free stat points to immediately get results, and spend skill points to learn op skills out of nowhere. It's busted and it's fun just to see how ridiculous he can become.

The reason Rimuru can combine skills at all is actually the effect of Degenerate, the skill he got from Shizue. Before that he was unable to combine or improve skills at all, other then the World System doing it for him. Degenerate is actually the arguable true key to Rimuru’s limitless potential, as being able to combine skills for ever greater effects would be impossible with out it. He’d be able to absorb skills, but he’d be unable to change or alter them in any way.

It's also a great way to modify and create items and magic. It also has control over an item's effects, thus allowing Rimuru to transfer useful functions to another item that needs it. There's also the fact that Rimuru can "take" things using this same skill, if the enemy's item has fire nullification, Rimuru can take it and then spam flame-based attacks. PS: Deviant doesn't seem to have power over souls, so skills that stick to the soul are off limits. (It's not until the demon lord evolution that Rimuru can surpass this limitation.)

"Visit to the Unknown: Different Gate" Basic summary: A side story that takes place during "Rimuru’s Elegant Escape Play". While Rimuru is off staging kidnappings, Veldora and Ramiris open a portal to a post-apocalyptic world with cyborgs and engines made from mini stars and black-holes. Sadly, no magicules. The world almost gets destroyed because of the mini black-hole engine thingy I mentioned earlier. It was Degenerate (got from shizu) that allowed Rimuru to combine unique skills (aka Ravenous + Predator = Glutonny) Sure it was guided by Great Sage but it wasn't part of Great Sage Skill. Also another thing Great Sage is not the Voice of the World. Voice of the World is that the voice of the World System which a lot of people can hear.
