Definitely some of the dopest, not quite Layne Staley Jerry Cantrell level but still damn good and so much better than 99% of harmonized vocals in metal.

Daron Malakian on backup vocals. He and Serj have some great harmonies. He also takes lead on a handful of their tunes, with Serj backing (e.g. Lonely Day, B.Y.O.B. and Lost In Hollywood). Lonely Day is a mellower side of SOAD, but incredible all the same. 💛🤘🤙✌️

@puppetmaster85519 ай бұрын
@@Петърчо I gotta disagree, love serj’s vocals but what made SOAD SOAD was a lot more than just his vocals, Daron’s songwriting is just as important if not more and his harmonies with serj were also crucial to their sound. Serj rules and his voice was very dope and unique but I personally think daron was the most important member of the band, that being said you can’t really replace serj because he’s an important part of the band, bummer tho because SOAD is now basically dead because of that

So they originally wanted to call the song suicide however the record label wasn't happy with it. So they changed it to chop suey, i.e., chopping the word suicide in half.

Small correction. they wanted to name it "Self-Righteous suicide." everything else you said was right. Also, the phrase "Self-Righteous Chop Suey-cide" was thrown around very frequently in the days leading up to the songs premiere.

Originally the song was to be called "Suicide", but they switched it to "Chop Suey!" which still retains half of the original title written in different way, "Suey" instead of "Sui"cide. Chop in it's literal sense, chopping something in half, makes the new title a word play on the original one. The food dish itself doesn't have much to do with the song, other than a short clip of Serj eating it in the middle of the music video. Daron, the guitarist, is the one singing the harmonies and backing vocals. Ehdotan edelleen kappaleita Holy Mountains, I‐E‐A‐I‐A‐I‐O, Empty Walls ja Rumi seuraaviksi reaktioitaviksi kappaleiksi :)

Chop Suey is about the social repercussions of drug use. Daron, guitarist and the writer of the song, explains in an interview that the expression 'when angels deserve to die' was inspired by the people who say that drug abusers deserve to die and don't aknowledge the problem that they are having, taking away their worth. The song points it out when it says, 'I don't think you trust in my self-righteous suicide' referring to drug consumption. The 'wake up' part is just random household arguments that revolve around the subject of the song. The 'father' part represents the dispair of living such life.
@oraculox7 ай бұрын
Yes, but could be a second awakening from the perspective of drugs, seeing the "normal" ones that never used drugs, still asleep. With the obvious chris, musl and heb underlining And deeper than that, that suicide is still about the self, and there´s nothing righteus about it. An escape that is denied and punished by most religions without allowing an understanding of the roots of a primal psicological state.
