+laadpgg92 I think lotr means that the descriptions in this song were first heard in Gandalf's speech to Pippin about what happens after death, and since Tolkien died in the 70s, he would've seen the descriptions presented in this song, I guess. Not that those are accurate of a real life Heaven, though.

Peter Jackson rejected the 1st song Howard Shore composed as the final song for ROTK. He asked him to have another go at it. I’m happy he did. Shore, Walsh & Lennox achieved perfection in this song. It’s literally the crowning jewel set atop this masterpiece trilogy.

It's a great song, but I prefer Fellowship's May it Be from Enya. This trilogy still has the best soundtrack in movie history and I don't understand why we don't get good movie scores like this anymore. Movie soundtracks are so bland and forgetful now. Video games are now the best medium to hear beautiful music.
@The_ZeroLine Жыл бұрын
@@josephjoe4180 Movies are scored better than ever before. The further you go back, the greater the percentage of major studio films featuring corn ball scores. Indie pictures have also upped the score game. It’s just popular to always say everything used to be better. There are some areas where the past was much better and many more where it wasn’t. The “used to be better” line that makes me laugh the most is when someone says TV used to be so much better. 95% of TVs through the early ‘90s was unwatchable for someone with a brain. Yes, I hate reality TV, but there are hundreds of good TV series per season now while there used to be a handful per season at most.
@josephjoe4180 Жыл бұрын
@@The_ZeroLine Hard disagree. And there are many film analysis videos discussing why films have forgetful scores now, including every frame a painting. Temp scores, lack of creativity, director interference, etc...As I said before, video game music has now taken over as the dominant form of soundtracks. Just look up Ori and the Blind forest as an example.

Dorian, I am an aging metal head, and I must question of you: what is metal? If a song about an ageless, timeless, tale of loss, sacrifice, and change, one involving beating a god bent on destruction and killing everything made of light, one involving a suicide mission to save a land already sullied by the hate of man, doesn't register as metal, then stand down and buy some Air Supply LPs. This song is metal. Feel good about feeling something squishy.

@GabrieleVergani11 жыл бұрын
From Wikipedia: The song was conceived as a bittersweet Elvish lament sung by Galadriel for those who have sailed across the Sundering Sea. Several phrases from the song are taken from the last chapter of The Return of the King. In the commentaries and documentaries accompanying the extended DVD edition of the film, director Peter Jackson explains that the song wasn't inspired by Frodo, but by the premature death from cancer of young New Zealand filmmaker Cameron Duncan, whose work had impressed Jackson and his team. The first public performance of the song was at Duncan's funeral.

that's exactly what it is. An incredibly beautiful song to dedicate to the people that you have lost. The lyrics are composed to help you think that they left this earth in peace and they're in a better place now. I'm not even a religious person but I always cry when i hear this song, because I lost my grandmother last year who has always been like a mother to me and this song helps me getting through the pain of her loss and gives me peace in some way =)

From the Tolkien Gateway: “Peter Jackson explained that the song was partially inspired by the premature death from cancer of 17-year-old New Zealand filmmaker Cameron Duncan whose work had impressed Jackson and his team. The first public performance of the song was at Duncan's funeral.” So yes. It is perfect for that, because it was first sung to honor a talented boy who died far too young.

She looks just like she did in "Julia" (1984) here. Her spirit is timeless and her performances are spellbinding. Lennox is a legend among musicians for sure! Love me some Annie :-)
