This is an Air hog hand launched glider that walmart sells for $10. I have converted it to RC with an EDF and three servos. It's running on a 2200 mah 11.1v lipo battery. EDF is out of a phase 3 f-16

This is the nicest Air Hog conversion I have seen. I like how you separated the two hatches and used the rare earth magnets to hold them on. I just bought two of these Air Hog Titan planes here in Canada for $12.99 each based on your video and will be doing a conversion myself soon. Thanks for putting this out.

It just amazing what the minimization of electronics has made this kind of RC building possible. Back in the 70's you could get into RC for under 2-5 grand. Now you can spend 300 buck and get a four channel transmitter, receiver, motor, etc., And start designing A/C that rival anything NASA can design. These videos are a extreme inspiration, good work.

Hey, nice job. Here's my grandson in the picture with the second Air Hog Titan I built. I built 2 hogs using 3/9gr servos, Used brushless motor and 1000 11.1v lipo. Used 2 pieces 3mm carbon fiber hollow rods for the wings and glued wings in the fuse. This one I added blue foam to make elevators and ailerons. Didn't cut them out of the plane Just added the blue foam in the space where the wings had the cut outs. The elevators I added two pieces of blue foam.Cost was $60. Not including the FM TX

Again, THANK YOU! I have learned more about how to make a DIY Plane in the 20 min. of your videos then I have in weeks of looking on the internet! This Air Hog seems to be a great starter plane for me. $10 plus a investment of a decent radio and reciever along with the hardware seems to me the way to go. If I want to build a different plane all I have to do is just remove the hardware from one and put it on the next one. I hope that you will do a few videos on the servos and "DIY" on them????

CG is very important as RCpro Driver said. This is a great build video! I wanted to use a EDF myself, but the noise is a problem where I fly. I have flown an RC Titan powered by a brushless with a 7x4 prop on the front (gotta cut off LOTS of nose to maintain CG.). It was a blast to fly, good loops, rolls, and inverteds, and I was FEARLESS with it (only $10 afer all) - but took a little too much risk a few times(another story). FRONT-PROP-BUILD: (a CG story) Remmove plane from packaging and assemble. Take a 4" nail with you to test glide and stick the nail into the fuse where needed to get a good glide. The plane is so light it needs some weight anyway, so the nail is needed. Now, with the nail still in place, balance the plane over a pencil laid on a table and mark the pencil's location on the bottom of the plane That is your CG. Mount all the control surfaces and servos in place, then loosely install the battery and ESC. Then once again, pencil-on-table, plane\'s GC previously marked resting on the pencil, balance the plane by placement of the assembled motor, mount and prop. The position of the motor mount tells you where to cut off the nose to mount the motor.. It is best to err on the side of nose heavy of course, cuz you can easilly cut a little more off (Hey, it\s only $10 foam!). Addition of CF wing spar was not something I did at first, but after not-missing a tree and knocking a wing off, a spar was added to help "heal" the break. I used the knife-blade attachment on an electric soldering gun for making the channel in the wings. My spar did not go out to the wing tips, but rather went right through the fuse and about 1/3 out into eash wing. This bird has a fair amount of dihedral built in so one-piece straight through is possible. I used a hot coathanger wire (like this video) to go through the fuse.

Thanks Word Reet. I have just made a foam cutter a few days ago using a number 13 guitar string that is about 30" long and I took a 12 VDC 1.2 Amp power adapter transformer and remounted it in an old PC power supply case to keep it running cool using the built in cooling fan. I will be posting some video of what I made later. Thanks for the tips.

I did the same basic thing with a Raptor foam glider. mine isn't as pretty as yours cause the fuse is thinner so I couldn't fit everything inside it. I also used foam board to add control surfaces to the tail. I found the CG of the glider, then added all the RC gear while maintaining the same CG. You get the fun of a EDF without any sharp stall issues.

My Gunson's charger has 12 and 6 volt plus slow and fast charge. It may be possible to have a dimmer switch between your transformer and the mains. So you can back off the power for a shorter cutter. I also use a hot knife, just a 3x2x100mm piece of aluminium (off cut from my workplace) in my soldering iron. Also used a hot ' U ' shape cutter in a soldering gun to scoop out a solid foam fuselage..

"the old ones back in the day" i remember those, those were the one that look like a commercial airline jet and you could changed the flight path by adjusting the elevator. the only mad i was able to do on it is turn it to a jet lol kinda i would put a bottle rocket inside and see it fly but then the it would explode and i did this in the early 90s anyways nice mode i may try this out myself.

I find I don't need a dimmer control with my transformer because it barely puts out enough heat for the 30" wire and doesn't seem to overheat the wire on a 7.5 inch bow I made for small cutting jobs either. I may end up designing another power supply with a higher power transformer and a dimmer control so I can get a better variety of heat settings. I was also thinking about using a soldering gun like you are to scoop out the smaller foam. I am looking around for it now.

excellent rc conversion- good ascent angle -your right on about the 130 watts or more, i tried a 100 watt 2600kv bl and it was too weak with its recommended 4x6- (old hi wing trainer with tricycle gear)- ive been doing rc since fall '09 and now want to ROG so am putting a 200 watt 2600kv on it - should be power to not death stall - more and more often im seeing claimed watts on BLs for sale- this lets me know if the motors got the power for my plane

Hey Timan, thanks for all of your videos. I concur with one of the previous posters about how much info I have gained from your videos. I am about ready to go from the simulator to a trainer and I think the Airhog would be a good start. I have a few questions if you don't mind. 1. What size motor would you recommend to make this a reguler prop plane? 2. Am I correct that you do not have a rudder on yours? Did you end up covering/fiberglassing the plane? $ Where do you purchase your carbon fiber?
