I agree with some of what you said about King Charles/Camilla Jeannie, but then he should’t have (dishonestly) married a 19 yr old who quite rightly was full of hope & dreams. She deserved so much more than being treated like breeding stock by our royal family. 😘

80's for me, I had huge curls and huge shoulders, first years of marriage. The first day of my first big career promotion was the day of the Challenger disaster. My boss was a huge space nerd and had the Houston control audio feed piped over the PA system at work. It was a huge payroll processing company so it was not conducive to being productive so we were all a bit annoyed. There had been so many delays. Then tragedy! Tears were flowing. I enjoyed your "Whip It" rendition! That used to be the song I would put on after dinner and my son, daughter and I would jam as we cleaned the kitchen. Although it would make my son get a little crazy with the broom. That was in the early 2000's so that '80's song really held up!

wonderful video as always Jeannie. I was born in the 80's (october 23rd 85) & i remember a lot of this stuff. My absolute favourite being Michael Jackson, the late, great king of pop. I have been a huge fan of his my whole life, and was very sad when he passed! What an incredible soul he was. i always completely identified with him growing up, as i too grew up with abusive parents & a messed up life & always have felt misunderstood. I could see a lot of myself in him. I learnt a lot of valuable lessons from him, such as caring for the planet & the animals & the people from all over the world (including people like the young Ryan White whom he befriended) I also learnt humanitarianism, compassion, and gentleness & I also learnt to use music & dance as a form of escapism from life's troubles. I learnt far more things of value from him, than my parents. So him passing really hit me hard. so tragic how life & people treat such a beautiful soul. Diana was lovely too, sadly so troubled & messed up, but a great person, so tragic she too passed so young & in a horrific manner. I always felt Diana & MJ who were good friends, would have made a beautiful couple. Shame my favourite 80's show wasn't in the book. highway to heaven. that was an awesome show with such great messages, that are very much needed more than ever before in this day & age. You know, the episode called Cindy, was aired on the exact day i was born. how awesome is that? Hope you & the family are all doing well have a wonderful weekend.

Another nostalgic video of my favourite decade and the start of my teenage years. There were so many defining moments for me - the music, the fashion and the fads and the carefree attitude. My favourite group was Duran Duran - my friend at school and I hatched a plan to see them in concert in 1983 when we were only 15, but our mothers refused to let us go. Of course I was devastated. There were all the sitcoms and American TV shows that were appearing on Australian TV back then. Prisoner was actually my favourite - it was an Australian drama set in a women’s prison. I got my first Walkman for my 14th birthday. Rubik’s cubes were all the rage at my school but I could never get a side on them. I remember all the political scandals and historical moments. I was only 13!and remember watching The Royal wedding of Charles and Diana. My sister is only 6 weeks younger than her so had that connection. As much as I admired Diana, I have to feel for Charles, she made his life a misery with her mental health issues and she drove him into the arms of Camilla. She was the perfect manipulator with the press. They were mismatched from the beginning. I loved everything about the 80’s ,and will forever remain the best decade of my life and feel so blessed that my mother had me when she did Life was simple with no mobile phones or internet. We had to find our own entertainment. It was also an era where cash and manual cars were king at least in Australia. Long live the 80’s.

This is an awesome look back, thank you. I'm always curious about adults' (at that time) perspectives and thoughts about the -'80s. While I remember most of the events and people of the time, my primary focus was on things like Transformers, Care Bears, Thunder Cats, etc.; all little kids stuff. One of my earliest memories was of my dad carrying me down a hallway in his workplace and into a room where I could play Pac Man; he worked for Atari at the time and I think that game had been out a few years. I still have an old encyclopedia set from that time where some of the countries don't exist anymore, like the USSR.

I was born smack dab in the middle of the 80s (mid-June of 1985), so I only remember certain elements of the decade. The news stories about the boy in the bubble and Baby M were things I had only heard about through pop culture references, but never knew the actual stories, and this video sent me on a huge Google/ Wikipedia rabbit hole this evening. Fascinating stories and I can see why they captured the country so strongly. My big revelation was finding out that Baby M, who is now grown up with her own kids, actually went on to write a doctoral thesis about the ethics of surrogacy. How cool is that! Thanks for another fantastic video.
