I've been into VW's since the late 60s. You have answered a lot of questions in this video. Too many times people have talked tech, this is what you need, this is what makes the most power. This video has explained things that I otherwise would of thrown a bunch of money at and would not of been happy with it.Thank you I will be back again.

Oh yeah, pass along those tips from Berg you learned at the track that day and share some more stories!!!!! I like your attitude of not being any "better" than anyone else. Found all you videos very informative! You have saved me lost of head aches. I picked up a supposed to be counterweighted crank for a 1600 a old guy that used to race had and would love to see a video or info on the best parts and combos for a daily driver turbo 1600. I have a stock 1600 sitting and I know I will have to spend a few dollars but from what you say and I've seen you get what you pay for. My goal is long lasting nice running turbo 1600. Not trying to out run people or race just to have fun driving it to work every day. Oh the kicker is it's going in a 61 rag top bug and want it to all fit under the deck lid. It has a 67 swing axel if that changes anything. I do paint and body and we have a fab shop so plan on building the header and al that good stuff on my on. Thanks for any info

I'm not looking for a drag engine. but a little pep on the street. but I just wanted to say thanks for your videos. and I think I might have the bug. pun intended.haha.

Great video I just finished watching 3 hours of your videos they're very educational after watching you put a bottom end together I think I'm going to split my 1915 apart and take another look at it before firing it. My crank seems hard to turn maybe its a dowel pin under one of the mains? I'm not sure. But something else happened in this build I got the engine in a box and it came with 3 different camshaft gears. On reassembly after the case was machined I couldn't get the crank to turn with the cam with out pushing the cam out of the bearings I tried all the other cams and none of them seemed to be right so I bought straight cut gears from Cb and they seem a little loose like the cam gears to small how do you know what cam gear fits which case?

Hey! Been a while since I said much,lol. I am planning to get another VW in the future once the debt is gone. I am a bit of a nitrous junkie and have been wanting to request a video on air cooled nitrous motors. I really want to build one in the next bug. Would really like to see a video on your knowledge an input. Turbo is always going to be superior in this aspect but I just prefer the bottle, to me it's NA forced induction,lol. Was going to message but can not through the app. Hope all is going well for you and the family. Been watching for a few years and always enjoy your stuff. Hopefully I can contribute to the KZbin garage eventually. Other than some motovlogs the "Do it yourself" section of my channel needs more content. Hope to hear back or see a video. Cheers!

Could a engine be built to run e85? or a e85 mix, like say e30 or e50? in those cases im assuming we could run more compression correct? I havent decided on what im building yet, a goal of 150hp and a fun street driver, most likely wouldnt see a track and i live in las vegas so desert heat, with our boosted watercooled engine e85 helps keep cool and way more power

just adding to previous comment.. brand new Egas 2 barrel carb,brand new fuel pump and lines.and new Bosch plug,, valves were adjusted by mechanic. .before I took i to mechanic it didn't stumble at high speed, mechenacic installed new fuel system..I'll try turning up regulator to allow more fuel.?. the biggest problem was pinging off valve before I took it to him ,when it was good on bottom end it wasn't on top end ,vice -versa..my thought is the disributor set up ..electronic ING. blue spring.. 1st 2nd 3rd it's fine just 4th when you excellerate from a cruising speed. .this sandrail was set up for sand dunes.. I've turned into a licensed daily driver. good compression..spending money and getting no were,,,

New subscriber but frequent viewer. Based on one comment you made during one of the 2180 videos (2276 is your favorite street motor), I am building a 2276. I m a skilled mechanic with exceptional resources but had no experience with VW air cooled engines. Based on watching your videos I have built one 1300, two 1600s and one 1835; my father, brother, sister and I all have drivers now. The 2276 is for my "58" with transaxle, suspension and tire upgrades. My current question: I measured the new 82mm forged crank journals today, all are in spec. Per your recommendation got two main bearing sets to apply the split bearing on the rear case main as well as the center. With both new split main bearings tie wrapped together, both measure negative -.003" clearance top to bottom inline with the anti rotation pin holes and positive +.006" 90 degree out toward the split line. This indicates both split bearings are oblong, not round? If I torque the split bearings in the crankcase and clam shell them together, will the crankcase true the bear I.D.???????The crankcase is at my machine shop turning the cylinder spigots out from 92mm to 94s. My intention is to dry assemble the crankcase and remeasure all the main bearing I'D.s. I am hoping this trues them up but wanted to know if you have experienced this issue, making me a smile novice just recognizing it for the first time? I greatly enjoy the content of your videos, they provide the benefit of a life time of experience that give me the confidence to take on the most aggressive engine build of my life, Thank You, Larry Poulin / Houston Texas

okay I got a question I have a 1835 what 10 to 1 compression 9 Pound flywheel angle 125 cam with All 4 One heads pertronix distributor and 44 Weber IDF. single valve spring. my problem is is that my spark plugs are always running black no matter if I put a new set or not after a couple of drives they are black is this because of the high compression or do I need to change my heads to a wedge Port Style. tried filling it out and the car runs hot where I got it set now with the carburetors is maybe two and a half turns out seems to run cool but again the plugs are black hard time starting in the morning until it warms up and then no problem
@saab7706 жыл бұрын
Webers need to be set up properly use a wideband o2 sensor in each exhaust 24 inches from the manifold and set the air fuel ratio to 14.7 to 1 this will cure the black spark plugs plus car will run correctly regards John
