In my experience in the late 80’s through 1992 in Greenpoint, Brooklyn members of what I later learned were organized Crime families were respectful & generally nice people who you never wanted to have an issue with. I never bet on a game I couldn’t immediately pay if I lost. To me it was completely disrespectful to place a wager on a game & not pay a person that took the bet.

Personally, I don't see how someone could engage in a gambling setting and not expect to pay what they owe, it's illegal where betting is legal, and in the case of small scale gambling, you have no idea what they might do if you don't pay up, or who they know.

@kronosomni2805 Gambling can be an addiction, using bookies and loansharks is pretty commonplace with those types of addicts. I’ve personally heard plenty of stories, but I won’t share them here. Just trust me, a lot of the broken kneecaps stereotype is true. They know what they’re getting into, they just can’t help themselves and keep digging the hole deeper.

I got 10 years in state prison when I was a young lad. I did 3.5 and it was a wake up call never went back. I saw how the system was set for you to fail. I got out moved out of state as soon as I was finished 5 years of paper that was so hard to complete. I met a girl and she helped me with my anger an hate towards authority. I really enjoy your videos and I see where it helps people like me thanks

Love hearing success stories have been to prison as well and have seen how the system is set up for you to fail I think it's so important for people like Larry and Jessica Kent, 23 &1.. That talk about the corruption and the inside of prisons and what really goes on most people think of prisoners as horrible rapist and murderers but they're not they're your next door neighbor they're the person down the street that always shovels your Driveway most prisons are filled with drug offenders or other non violent crimes and it really needs to change

I turned 22 in federal prison and was sent to FCI Ft. Dix ( New Jersey) to serve 3 years for pot. Started stealing from the kitchen and was introduced to a few mob members. They would buy anything from the kitchen and pay good money for it. Great guys. Pasta, tomato sauce, garlic, chicken, all the veggies, and literally anything else. I could get the already minced garlic in a jar from the kitchen. Think it was 16 oz. 8 bucks. In Olive oil. They loved it. In my head I always felt like I kind of worked for the mob because of it. In a way I did, right? Can only imagine the feeling from the street. Really appreciate these videos. Can tell you're keeping it real and letting it be known. Always interesting to watch. Great video

My great grandpa was part of the mob. I was young when he passed but after his funeral when my gran (his wife) was eating with me a random man came up, handed her a packed envelope and said "if you need anything you call us. My gran showed me that it was packed with cash and she gave me a $100. To this day that was the most amount of money I've ever seen at once.

I have a question for you Larry: Did you ever know, or know of, any Made Men or Bosses you had little chivalrous or honorable quirks? As an example: I knew this old guy who had been in the Life and he would get taken care of at Resturaunts and such, skip the line or bump a reservation or things like that. One time this Guy and a couple associates went into a fancy steak house and it was full up and the only empty tables were reserved, and so the Manager bumped the reservation for this Boss and sat his party. Turns out that the table was reserved for a man and his wife on their 10th wedding anniversary and it was very important to the couple and they were upset that their reservation was inextricably cancelled. So the husband argued with the Manager and wanted to know why this had happened and so on but, and I think this is important, the Husband wasnt rude or beligerent, just upset. Well the Boss heard the arguement and sent one of his guys over to find out what the disturbance was. When he found out what had happened, he got the couple a table and paid for their meals and their wine, because the Boss had taken their table and he said "I couldnt ruin such a special night for them." Anything like that ever happen that you remember? Or do you think this old timer was just blowin smoke?

I’m writing a (fictional) mob family into one of my tabletop games and your perspective is a huge help to make it realistic Back when I lived in Jersey and worked retail (in a rough part of Jersey City), I was told pretty quickly that if anyone with tats and an Italian-American accent came into the store, just be extra polite to them and don’t ask any personal questions. Especially if they paid in cash. I’m basically the human equivalent of a golden retriever and don’t make it a habit to ask anyone’s business, so I would’ve been fine either way. It’s funny to me that, at least once, I probably sold a made man his faucet or candy bar or whatever and had no idea. Very glad I didn’t have the slightest inkling!

Before my great grandma moved the family to south FL, from NY, the last straw that broke the camels back for her was when she refused to pay the mob tax in the neighborhood. They ended up putting her brothers arm in a cooler and cutting his hand off because she wouldn’t pay. They definitely did a lot of harm to their own Italian neighborhoods

What I love about this channel is Larry gives such a balanced opinion. Like, yeah if you know what you're doing you'll make a ton of money and have a bunch of fun with it. But even if you're an expert there's shit you can't control that will land you in prison or the grave. Plus there's some scary people in that life you're gonna be around. He doesn't seem like someone trying to impress you or scare you straight. Just telling how shit was.
