There's a reason Hope's last words are "About damn time!" In the comic books, Janet, her mother, is The Wasp. Having her lost to the quantum realm is a plot line for this movie series. In the comic books she is an original remember of The Avengers. In fact, she basically starts the Avengers group. So, it has taken until now (roughly 10 movies) for them to introduce The Wasp. The "about damn time" line is a nod to those who know that she's an OG. BTW, Tristan had a theory about something and it is something that created a little minor controversy in the MCU fan world. Can't explain yet without major spoilers, so I'll revisit it when the time is right 😁

Here are some fun facts about Ant-Man. Scott Lang is the third character to call himself Ant-Man. In the comic books it was Hank Pym who created Ultron. Hank Pym was also the first yellow jacket after he dropped the Ant-Man identity and took a more villainous outlook on life after beating his wife Janet Van dyne then having ants almost eat her. I think a similar event happened in the MCU but the only difference between the comic books is it wasn't because he was a horrible person it was due to the Pym particles effecting his brain chemistry in a similar effect on Daren crosses brain. Also despite ant-man's abilities to seem to be weak if Ant-Man was a straight killer he could take out all of the avengers.

Scott was the second Ant-Man. Eric O'Grady was the third. In mainstream continuity, Hank had the Yellowjacket identity for years before the infamous psychotic break and domestic abuse incident and did not set ants upon Jan to eat her. Edgelord Mark Millar's early 21st century ULTIMATES is a different continuity, altogether.

Paxton, the step father, is a good guy. He loves the ex-wife and daughter. He was a problem to Scott only because he wanted to keep them safe. Once he realized Scott was a hero, he changed.

Ant Man is a great movie. I mean, we're telling physics to go stand in the corner and pout, but that's true in every superhero movie. The action is good, the plot is fun, Luis's stories are PURE GOLD. But my favorite part? Is that neither Scott, nor Maggie, nor Paxton, are portrayed as some kind of villain. It's well and truly over between Scott and Maggie and neither one of them are remotely carrying any kind of torch for each other. But all three of them, Scott, Maggie, and Paxton, are really trying to do what's best for Cassie. Even when that puts them at odds against each other, they're not being vengeful over the divorce, they just want to do right by Cassie.

I really love Ant-Man because of how much love Paul Rudd puts into the character. His love for Cassie is truly his defining trait, and there's just something so beautiful about that. He really is a man who would move heaven and earth to protect and provide for his daughter. Heck, he'd defy all laws of physics for her XD Also, Paxton is easy to hate in the beginning, because you are seeing him from Scott's perspective, but... at the end of the day, he's a cop who has become the stepfather of a wonderful girl whose father is an ex-convict who can't hold down a steady enough job to pay for child support. In almost any other non-Avenger situation, he would be entirely in the right. But, he could also have shown more compassion for Scott given how much he meant to Cassie, rather than feeding into his wife's anger and frustration over what Scott did. So, he's not bad, there was just more room for building bridges.

I agree with Sam. When I first heard about Antman I thought, "Yeah, can't be that good." Antman superhero? But, after watching it I really liked it. So funny and plenty of action! Excellent job of all MCU departments to pull this off. The actors were really into being cast as MCU superheroes. Try watching some of the cast interviews on KZbin. Also, there's a couple of Paul Rudd videos that are seriously funny. Thanks! 😎

Any comicbook connoisseur knows the MCU really jacked up the ant man original. Hank Pam was the original ant man . Him and his wife Janet, the Wasp, along with iron man thor and the hulk were the original avengers in the 60s. Scott lang didn’t come along until 1979. Hope WAS their daughter though and eventually inherited the Wasp mantel from her mom.

Given that (for one example) Scott falls _through_ the ceiling into the rave but doesn't smash the turntable tells us that Pym particles let one manipulate weight and mass, and that Hank's controlling Scott's remotely. (Also, Hank's keychain widget doesn't weigh as much as a tank.) And since "reducing the space between atoms" doesn't click with "going subatomic," both Hank and Darren are either lying about how the particles work to protect their IP, or just think no one else is smart enough to follow along. (I'm trying too hard to make sense of comic-book pseudoscience.)

So hank pym was the original comics book antman but due to many mental health crisis and various comics of him slapping or straight up trying to kill his wife they went with Scott Lang who is the second antman in canon. Tho his back story is pretty much the same in this

Like I said, before in other comments of this movie, Scott was an idiot for trying to break back in to return the suit. So he could’ve just left it on the porch or outside the fence and Hope was a female dog for calling the cops cause she was jealous and petty that her dad chose Scott also the dad is a jerk. All he had to do is tell her why he didn’t want her to wear the suit

Like all movies it does have plot holes. We saw Hank throw a fat stack of cash into that one girls car window probably with very specific instructions about her telling her boyfriend about the vault and when it he would be gone. But how did he control the next couple people so that the story made it only to Luis? It could have (and should have) broken down anywhere along that chain. Frankly he should have just handed Scott that stack of cash. Since Pym is a millionaire he could have quietly hired Scott as a "consultant" and made it all legal. Then there would never have been any drama with the police at all.

Just a note. Ants aren't that strong. Neither are spiders. They can lift so many times their weight because they don't weigh much. For instance, a human might be able to lift twice his weight instead of 50 times like an ant can, but an elephant can't lift its weight. A bear might be able to lift its weight, but maybe not twice his weight, like I can. One more thing about the Ant-Man story. In the comics, it was Hank Pym who created Ultron. Ultron also had a soft spot for Hank Pym's wife because Ultron's brain patterns were patterned after Hank. One more way this story is different from the comic is that Yellow Jacket was actually a later version of Ant-Man. By that time, Hank Pym had become an abusive husband, and was shunned by The Avengers.

As far as ants being able to lift objects many times their own weight, that's because of the geometry of scale. All else being equal, Strength is directly proportional to surface area, which is proportional to the square of the height. Mass, on the other hand, is proportional to the cube of the height. This also explains why there is a limit on the size of land animals - as you increase the height, mass increases faster than strength, so at some point a creature would no longer be strong enough to actually carry their own weight. Technically, ants are not especially strong at all, except if you (misleadingly) talk about strength vs. height. As far as Ant-man is concerned, the 'science' is not even internally consistent, much less realistic. Basically, his mass and strength and so on is depicted inconsistently. In the movie (and comics) the technology works however the plot requires and does not bear up to close examination. Thus, you have a tank that weights next to nothing when it's small, yet when Scott is small, he has all of his original mass (at least according to how the shrinking technology is described).

You will love Civil War. Can't wait to see your reaction. Again, I highly recommend watching Black Widow after Civil War. It takes place right after and you get a greater appreciation for the character. But just don't watch the credits scene until after Endgame. Maybe watch it at the end of your Endgame watch. Just my suggestion. Some may agree or disagree but just my thought.
