Appreciate the honesty. To sum up the negatives : - cost: expensive! - durability: glasses will need to be replaced faster (every 3 or so years!) because after 2 years the crazing becomes a real annoyance. A warranty of 2 years is therefor pretty much useless, btw.

So glad you added the part about people without vision problems thinking it will solve the headlight glare. I have astigmatism and I have them on my driving glasses but I thought they forgot my AR coating. It helped with the glare, but it wasn't all the way gone. Now I know why and as a first time wearer of glasses I learned a lot today thank you.

The last pair of antireflective coated glasses I got crazed within a few months. I've gotten it before with no problem. And the recent glasses were more expensive. I hesitate getting the coating anymore. I wonder if the older coatings were actually more durable.

Great information. I've used these coatings for years but what I notice now is that they have a yellowish tint. I hate it! I can't tell if they've added a bit of blue blocker or what but they definitely block a bit of blue light. With this info I'm going to look around for a coating that does not have a yellow cast and hope that one exists.

It seems like every optometrist shop sells a variety of AR coatings, but how do you know you're getting what you paid for? I paid top dollar for my last pair of glasses to get the high end coating, and it didn't last 8 months. It scratched every time you touched it, when pairs that I have that are 5 to 10 years old have no scratches on them. And when I questioned them they said "we have no record of you having the upgrade, or a warranty on it". Should we be getting paperwork and warranty information specific to the AR coating, when we receive the glasses?
@GoodOptometryMorning Жыл бұрын
some of the premium lenses come with a certificate of authenticity card. One good method is asking what the warrenty is on defective coatings....the better companies will have a 2 year warrenty....the rest will have 1year or none.
@west-Co_exploration Жыл бұрын
@@GoodOptometryMorning I asked that very question and they did a very good job of upselling me to the more expensive one due to warranty and several other factors, the only problem was I had no proof after the fact that I had the better option. I guess I'll never make that mistake again

First question, how are you cleaning them? Spraying them with the lense cleaner spray, and rubbing them with a dirty microfiber cloth.... You are literally sanding the AR coating away with microscopic sand stuck to lense over the day. You clean them by passing them under running faucet water, and then gently wash them with dish soap, and delicately pat them dry with a paper towel.
@west-Co_exploration Жыл бұрын
@@curlyhairdudeify I cleaned them exactly as I was instructed. My previous pair with AR coating lasted 3 years without a scratch. These fell apart in less than 3 months. I would say that is faulty AR coating

Great coverage. Maybe the only things, Good Optometry Morning: KZbin Eye Doctor, you missed were: 1) with higher inder lenses the anti-reflective coating becomes more important and effective; 2) shopping around for coating also means going with that manufactures lenses, though you did imply that. Found your example of popularion prevalence interesting, where you compared Japan, Canada & the United States. Does that also mean you are in Canada as well. Greatings from 🇨🇦

I always thought that they were trying to upsell me about the "Anti Reflective Coating" . Then, one time I bought off of eBay a pair of eyeglasses that came with a complimentary AR coating.... Once you go AR, there is no going back it is night and day. With regular lenses you get a ton of glare at night; you get halos from lights, starring, and image ghosting with the AR coating that is gone. Now, when I use regular eyeglasses I get headaches. My care tip is wash your eyeglasses with water and dish soap, and pat them dry with a paper towel. Absolutely no rubbing. First, rinse them with running water, then add soap, and finish pat drying.

@@curlyhairdudeify anti reflection means the glass in your glasses doesn't reflect the harsh lights infront of them, this is usually a green tinge coating to minimise the reflections so you can see the eyes of people you're looking at through the glassess of people wearing them, anti glare means the lights on car headlights (especially for people with astigmatism) is blinding, so there are 'anti glare' for lights. Anti reflective is an aesthetic thing, anti glare is to reduce the blinding effect of oncoming lights say in traffic at night.

Frankly I use to wear real glasses and guess what I cleaned them one time a day max. Now, having smudges on my plastic glasses with the coating after less than 1 hour is NOT acceptable, and 98 percent of people aren't ON CAMERA. They have been the most horrible thing ever, when I first got glasses with this AR coating, it was OPTIONAL, not mandatory. ... Give me the choice. Its called options. Why does everyone want to tell others what to do??
@stevelee7781 Жыл бұрын
Had two pair of anti-reflective... In about a year the coating is greasy and smudges when you try to clean them .. After that, you cant clean them at all and finger prints & smudges become permanent. The lenses need to be replaced or the coating must be stripped and reapplied. Yuck .. I went with non-coated and can see just fine. Its a scam.
