Thanks Meghan! As a cancer survivor, I've been incorporating all of these different foods into my diet to prevent recurrence. Thanks so much for the information and reassurance that I'm doing the right thing. May I ask you, what brand of matcha do you use? There are a lot of good ones, but also some that aren't quite as good. Thanks in advance. I love all of the great information that you provide on your channel!

Very informative video ! I personally use turmeric with black pepper because it enhances the absorption of curcumine. I often eat olive oil, avocados and seeds but I feel like I could increase my consumption of leafy greens, cruciferus veggies and whole grains. I reduced significantly my consumption of animal products but I do still eat a bit of salmon once in a while.

Meghan is it true that you should only eat sprouted chia and similar seeds or you don’t get the nutrients, they simply pass through your system? Great informative video, love it xxx
@meghanlivingstone3 жыл бұрын
Hey there! Most seeds are fine as is, including chia seeds, but flax seeds are better eaten ground as their beneficial fats are better absorbed that way, otherwise yes they'll pass through you! I like to store whole flaxseeds in my fridge and grind them in small amounts as needed. So I usually have a small jar of ground flax in my fridge too!

I love all these foods! (Ginger and turmeric in limited quantities though) my problem is going into the grocery and being fully overwhelmed and then not knowing what to do. I wish there was an app that told me what to buy, one where I could put in “meals for two with leftovers” haha! There used to be a book called Saving Dinner that came with a rotating menu and attached shopping list, but it was just basic foods..no super foods or anti-inflammatory meals, etc.

Hi there! There’s not a ton of research that supports the idea that nightshades should be avoided in those with inflammatory conditions. It totally depends on the person. If you find they aggravate your symptoms then best to limit them but otherwise I wouldn’t stress too much!

If you have IBS can you have whole grains or they are irritating for the gut?
@meghanlivingstone3 жыл бұрын
This will depend on the person - in those with a very sensitive gut then refined grains (like white rice) can be much gentler. Over time you can try slowly incorporating more whole grain options, using smaller quantities, until you’re able to tolerate them better :) During any kind of flare up though, the refined options can be helpful.

This is basically the same list of foods recommended for healthy skin in a book I recently read by another nutritionist (Erica Angyal). The most beneficial and nutrient dense food is good for your skin, your gut, and your overall health as well. Love these foods and great reminder to everybody to enjoy these regularly in their diet. For people who have a hard time figuring out how to get these foods in their diet, maybe you can do a video that focuses on easy swaps and suggest foods that can easily be swapped out for these healthier option? Also, I have been doing a carrot, tomato, turmeric, and ginger juice recently and it’s so good! Mine is savory like a Bloody Mary, but you could do a sweet version without the tomato and with orange instead, since that’s also a great option high in vitamin C
@iamgorrgeousss3 жыл бұрын
Do you steam your carrot or just eat them raw?
@lolasaysyes3 жыл бұрын
@@iamgorrgeousss I usually eat it raw in a salad. From what I understand, the beta carotene is most easily absorbed if you cut the carrot finely, so grated, julienned, or juiced. Since it’s an oil soluble vitamin, it’s better to eat it with some oil (olive oil from the salad in my case). Both raw and cooked are good but I am lazy and prefer the least amount of cooking!

These foods are probably good for other inflammatory conditions, but I have Ulcerative Colitis, and anyone who watches this with newly diagnosed UC and doest know yet, please DO NOT eat most of these foods!! Berries are bad for us because most of them have seeds, which can irritate the already inflamed and sore intestine. Broccoli, brussel sprouts and other cruciferous vegetables could cause lots of bloating and gas. Dark leafy greens are full of fiber, which is good for people with a normal digestive system but for us with UC, we want to avoid fibre because it is hard to digest and makes our symptoms worse. Same applies to whole grains, lots of fibre. Next one, seeds. We wan to avoid all seeds and nuts because, just like with seedy berries, they can not be fully digested and are too harsh for the intestinal wall. Fatty fish are actually very good for people who have Ulcerative Colitis. Omega 3 fatty acid is anti-inflammatory, has protein and are not harsh on the digestive system. Avocado is also really good for us, full of good fat and is mild and nice to our belly. Tomatoes.. For gods sake, AVOID tomatoas at all cost! I cant remember which specific chemical that makes it bad for us, but every time i´ve eaten a tomato, i got a flare up. (Same goes to bell peppers, even tho its not on her list) For the last ones i just want to say, drink ginger-turmeric tea. Its anti inflammatory benefits help us too, it cleans, its healthy, it calms. I ocasionally also take curcumin supplements. (curcumin is the chemical in turmeric) I would be careful with green tea just because of the caffeine, just as we have to be careful with coffee and energy drinks too. For me, caffeine is only bad when i have a flare up, but in remission i would drink it in moderation. Again, all of these foods are healthy and anti-inflammatory, and could help a lot of people with different illnesses, but anyone with Ulcerative Colitis and other digestive issues, please be careful and continue doing your research. To everyone who is in a flare up, i hope you´ll get well soon, and know you´re not alone. And those with other contitions, i wish you all well too and hope these foods can help you. (Disclimer: Im not a dietician, these are just my reseaches and own experience from the last 4 years of having UC)
