I was about to get the M32, but this comparison open my eyes to get to know, how better is the Craves´s price/value/functionalities relation compared to M32. I admit the Moog brand has some influence in me of respect and admiral (I already own a SubHarmonicon). But your comparison go to the key facts that makes more attractive to consider the Crave. Thank you very much for your review, very informative and well crafted.

Concerning the pulse width click issue, it only happens when the attack is at zero - if you increase it very slightly the clicks disappear without changing the sound too much

Starsky Carr metions he believes it is a digital envelope in the crave, might it be due to this, that it does sound so harsh on the crave?

I've owned the Crave for a couple months and it is awesome. Always finding something new to do with it. I just love the layout, sit back thrown on some headphones and just see were the patch goes. I also have the Model D, Pro-1 and a Microfreak, but lately the Crave has been eating up most of time. It's just a fun little synth. When you run it through the Korg NTS-1 it really comes alive.
@AntonAnru3 жыл бұрын
I'm also amazed by the depth of the synth
@robertsteinberger56672 жыл бұрын
when you say you run it through the nts-1 you are talking about reverb or something else?

I own 2 craves. Lots of fun with modulation and patches. Also worth mentioning : m32 has longer sequence after updates AFAIK. Patch panel has certain cons too, you cannot stack 2 or 3 synths on one stand and keep cables away from knobs. You need to feed cables from behind the stand, it's not very convenient if you do real-time patching. Moog did panel on the right, because they have more synths in this form factor, so they are easy to patch.

Thanks, great video. I have just got my Crave less than a week ago and already having lots of fun with it. I wish the KB CV were more accurate... cannot tune my LFO other for the lowest one or two octaves...
@AntonAnru4 жыл бұрын
Congrats with the purchase. Yes, they are very interesting synths. And I also noticed this thing with cv kb. But honestly didn't care too much. At least it works fine with filter

Awesome video.... I Think the click on the crave when in pulse width mode is quite minor. It hasn't ever made me change the position enough to detract from the sound im trying to achieve, and can also be completly solved by applying resonance for some weird reason. Just a couple of notches and it completely goes without any sound change... Also when retuning the two holes for the osc did you find the lfo stayed in tune better?

The Crave was the first Behringer synth product I got and in 3 months I haven't been able to update it and get rid of that awful noise whenever I put a rest. I've tried lots of different computers including Mac and Windows and numerous cables and all I get is 'Cloud under maintenance'. I'd prefer a Sysex file any day.
@AntonAnru4 жыл бұрын
Sad to hear it. Maybe it's a point to take m32 into account
@richardwiseman30504 жыл бұрын
I have both synths a couple other important differences, are: You can't change change pattern via midi on the crave (i have put this in as a feature request) The M32 has synced pattern changes, the crave changes instantly only I think the Crave clicking issue may relate to the digital envelope, whereas the M32 is analog. Correct me if i'm wrong. There both cracking synths.
@AntonAnru4 жыл бұрын
Yes! Good point about pattern change, thanks

Just bought a crave for these very reasons - neglecting a USB interface in this year of our Lord 2023, is just a stubborn move by moog. I get that they designed the original, but that doesn't mean that we should ignore usability. the crave is not nearly as aestheticly pleasing as the m32, but you can purchase a new skin/wrap for it and throw new knobs on it, and it looks just as nice. i'm looking forward to the behringer spice (subharmonicon "clone").
@AntonAnru11 ай бұрын
No usb bothered me at first. But now I'm fine with it. The only disadvantage that still makes me sad is that i can't import/export patterns

Updating through .sysex would be very good for any Behringer synths! I'm still sitting with my Neutron non-updated! The support didn't helped. It's some kind of a HW-HW problem. And they doesn't even release .hex files.
@AntonAnru4 жыл бұрын
I guess you used windows for the update, at least most problems with drivers appear there. Try to find someone around you with mac, you will perform the update on several minutes
@KiR_3d4 жыл бұрын
@@AntonAnru I have a friend with Mac but he's so "inside himself" that he did forgot to update Neutron when I've gave him to play with it :)) Maybe I should try my old notebook with some Intel CPU... BTW, Behringer's X-serie digital mixers has troubles with X370 chipset... Just mentioning. I'm using XR18 and it's quite tricky to make it to start the audio stream.
@alexwestconsulting2 жыл бұрын
crave uses a 3340 vco clone, same as neutron, that has a more Sequential sound, not as smooth as Moog's 3046 chip. That about sums it up: the Crave is not as smooth as M32.

But then if you have the Crave you could just use the Moog manual lol
@AntonAnru3 жыл бұрын
Yes, that's true. But crave is an independent unit by another manufacturer. It must have it's own manual. If not, then the image of the manufacturer stuffers, like they don't care of they users
@SomeOne-pd6vm3 жыл бұрын
Man, the lack of velocity expression in the Moog means I'm definitely not getting it. Which is a shame, it looks far prettier, while the more functional and cheaper Crave looks hideous.
@couchcamperTM3 жыл бұрын
there's overlays for the crave and wraps. You can even spraypaint it, it's sturdy enough to take it apart and put it back together. I was lucky, I like orange.

@@couchcamperTM Funny thing, I ended up getting the Mother 32. I found one for an amazing price, around $340 US, and really couldn't say no. After having tried a Crave in the music store, I can say I much prefer the way the Mother 32 feels, especially the "keys".
