Tom Jones is a Welshman and the Welsh have been noted for their singing for over 200 years. I've been listening and enjoying this man for more than 60 years and the power his voice still carries is remarkable. In concerts in the USA women used to throw their underwear at him while he was onstage singing! TRULY UN_FN_BELIEBLE_BUT TRUE !!!!!!!!!!!

Tom Jones can sing just about any genre-pop, soul, R&B, ballads, etc. He even did a rap song which was a big hit. Anybody who was anybody in the entertainment world duetted with him on his show. He is an iconic singer and was known as “the voice”. He is now 81 and recently had a number 1 album in the UK. He is also a judge on the British version of The Voice Tv show. He is Welsh and was also knighted by the Queen for his contributions to music so he is now Sir Tom Jones.

He is singing about his wife. He almost lost her several times from playing around. He finally lost her and lost his voice. The Tom Jones voice while she was alive is totally different from the Tom Jones voice after her death. That relationship is worth looking at because it ran from childhood TB (his) all the way til their sunset years. Little known fact, he use to watch her walking to school while he was stuck in bed with TB. She made him want to live. His voice is as no other because of the TB scars.

Spectacular singing. In my book, probaby the best song he has ever sung. He holds nothing in reserve, giving his all, from body and soul, incorporating Motown with operatic. Real entertainment from a real talent. Three cheers for his Welsh roots which must have had a profound influence. Most everyone loves to sing in their culture. Then he came to this country to share the result with us. Thanks, Anton, for making a superb vocal selection!

Sir Tom Jones still has that huge voice at 82 years of age, the passion and control he has is incredible! To think that from the age of 12 to 14 he had TB and was housebound for that time with breathing difficulties, and other symptoms. So to go through that disease at that age and live to have such a powerful voice is amazing 😁

So I'm 14 or so back in the day listening to the show and buying all the 45s. I had dreams of being a vocalist back then. This is a difficult song to sing because it requires 2 things, range and breath. The way he sang with the power he had then , doctors advised him to stop or lose his voice altogether. You notice he does not cheat with falsettos. He was a Welsh miner and that is his background. The accent comes from there. Still the only song I have never been able to pull off is Righteous Brothers with the amazing falsetto. This is a difficult song as well as My Way and anyone who can do those justice , hat's off. Tom Jones has one more pony and that is " I Who have nothing".

Before people saw him [in the US] many thought he was a black singer and were surprised when he turned out to be a white Welsh boy from the valleys. He conquered the concert stage, TV, and Las Vegas at a time when pop acts did not play the main showroom of Caesar's Palace. Befriended by Elvis and Sinatra, at 81 he's still going strong and just had a #1 UK album. He has succeeded in pop, rock'n'roll [his first love], rock ballads, rhythm 'n' blues, contemporary - if its music he could and does knock it out of the park. My favorite is the blues he loved to sing in the 90s and more and his albums with Ethan Johns producing - Praise and Blame [2010], Spirit in the Room [2012], Long Lost Suitcase [2015], and Surrounded by Time [2021] - all critically acclaimed. He's a lot more than just "Delilah" and "What's New Pussycat"!

Tom loved soul music and it influenced him a great deal. Wilson Pickett was one of his major idols. There are a number of great duets he's done with others as part of his show. The one with Wilson Pickett is great. My mom was president of one of his fan clubs so I grew up with his music in the house, and had the great privilege of meeting him a few times over the years and he was always very sweet to me. He put on a great live show. His talent got a bit overshadowed by antics from his fans (my mom included but she was not quite as bad as some were and truly appreciated his music more than his charisma) and some odd musical choices of his first manager who started off great but then tried to capitalize on too many different music genres when they were popular (I pretend his country phase never happened - not that he couldn't sing country, but it was not a great fit). Soul and blues-based or standards were better suited. He's still performing brilliantly.

I know your a young man and no disrepect to you but without the sixties music or for that matter pervious generations that influence others to create different genres as you know music now , would not exist ! BTW , rock was transformed by artists like Jimmy Hendrix , Janis Joplin , the Beatles, The Who , Stones etc , in the sixties ! Not your cup of tea but for millions of others like myself was a renaissance period musically to live through and experience !

Check out Tom singing with Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young (CSNY). His duets with other legends are amazing... Stevie Wonder, Janis Joplin, Jerry Lee Lewis, Wilson Pickett, Aretha Franklin, Dusty Springfield, and so many more. His first love is R&B, but he likes and has done all kinds of music through the decades. 81 years old and his voice is still incredible. Still touring. Still recording. His latest album dropped ten months ago and zoomed to No.1 on the album charts in the UK.

Tom is an absolute legend and definitely an all time singer/performer. I think you should check out the best singer/performer in the world today. His name is Dimash Qudaibergen a 27 year old muti-instramentalist classically trained singer with an incredible 7 Octave range. Your only problem is which song to select as he sings every style of music from Opera to Rap in 14 different languages. I suggest that you Google this incredibly versatile artist who has been called by top professional vocal teachers as the best singer of all time. 😄🏴👍

I always loved Tom Jones' voice, his recordings, not so much. They always came off a little cheesy to me. I later found out that they weren't really his choice, more where his management and the public put him. He covered material more to my taste in the 70s when he had his own show where he had some spectacular duets with the likes of Joe Cocker, Janis Joplin et al. From the 80s onwards I thought his records got better and his last half a dozen albums (to date) redeemed him for any past musical misdemeanours imo. But then I seem to generally prefer my favourites in their later years when they've found themselves and added a little seasoning to their singing. Billie Holiday, Joni Mitchell, Tony Bennett and quite a few more - the same although I'll listen to Billie and Joni at any stage of their career. Frank Sinatra is an exception to that rule. I prefer his stuff from the 50s and early 60s.
