I couldn't believe what I saw after my pet yellow crazy ants (the Golden Empire) was moved into their new ant farm. This ant colony has been through a lot, including quite recently a mite plague which almost wiped them out. Thankfully, their rehabilitation progress has been promising so today we move them into their brand new home, an AC Hybrid Nest. But what we discover after they move in will shock you!

Hi everyone! I am here in this comment section today to tell you all a story. So, at the night of the making of this comment/story, I was outside at night. I was locking the gate of our house. When I was at the front door, I saw something that caught my eye. In the previous videos of AntsCanada, I once watched the dates of the ants' nuptial flights. It is Jun 19, 2019. It is the nuptial flight of the BLACK CRAZY ANTS. Guess what caught my eye? It is a queen ant of the BLACK CRAZY ANTS. I was so shocked. And excited at the same time. It was my first time seeing one in person. Being an ant lover, I immediately tried to find ways to catch it. Despite not having vials, test tubes or any instrument I could use, I wore gloves, kept it in my hand and put it later in in a plastic cup with very small holes and covered with a cut plastic bag. I immediately showed my mom and my little brother. After showing it to my mom, she got angry. She did not approve of what I was doing and was telling me to KILL the queen ant. It is not really common in our place here in the Philippines to care for these kind of creatures. She was telling me to kill a queen ant that did nothing but to find a place for her to lay her eggs. I kept on telling her on why and how this queen ant's life matter. But she insisted. I think she could have got it from me if she wasn't holding my baby brother. I did nothing for 5 minutes. But well I guess, it is better for me to let go of this queen rather than my mom killing it. I went out and put the queen into a plant pot with soil in front of my house. I left her there and watched her with hurt in my heart. That I didn't even get a chance to care for her. As she was digging down to find her place in laying, I also went back in the house and went straight to my room. I didn't eat, I watched AC videos. I really wanted to care for her, but I guess this wasn't the time. I am only 15 years old and there are still many opportunities to find one again. And the next time I find one, I know I'll be ready and be a good ant keeper. I don't need this story to be noticed by anyone else. I'm just sharing my experience with the very first queen ant. I know nothing about ants, but isn't five queens a lot for such a small space? In the wild would they either move a queen and brood group off to a new location, or dig down and expand the colony space?

Depends on the species of ant, some species of ants practice Polygyny and can have many, many queens like pharaoh ants, whereas some colonies can have 2-3+ queens like weaver ants. In Polygenous based nests the interesting part comes when queens disagree with one another and can actually group up and kill other queens that they don't like.
