When you get to the new house, you might want to put the slippery super sauce around the top of the ant world tanks on the outside as well. Might help keep invading ants out. In your condo unwelcome visitors destroyed some of your ant colonies.

I was so relieved to see that he chose a 20 gallon tank to house the new colony! That should be big enough for them to be happy for a long time, but small enough to move easily into the new house. Love it!
@TheKatarinaGiselle2 жыл бұрын
By the time Antopia’s house is completed, they will more than likely have outgrown the 20 gallon! But hopefully not, building right now, especially the massive project he is doing and all of the problems he has had along the way throughout the entire process with contractors and workers etc (which you can hear more about in his daily vlogs) his home may not be done for another two years.

You should make a huge vivarium like Nordic Ants, where there will be a bunch of different animals and ant species living together in a natural environment. You could also have live cámaras, so people could view it any time.

Talking about "ant games" did you ever play "SimAnt" as a kid? I used to love that game.. it's what got me interested in ants. P.s. have been a fan of yours for years and am glad you're still making content.

Mosquito nets are perfect to separate drain layers from soil. A thin layer of washed sandbox sand (5mm or less) is great too as long as the sand doesn't end up in a pump. If the water somewhat slowly moves around in the drain layer you would give the bacteria more to work with. It would also give you the opportunity to oxygenate the water. My drainage layers total depth are never less than 10cm.

A little tip for the fluon barrier is to put tape around the area you wanna cover so you'll have a clean and even edge of fluon. After it dries you remove the tape and it looks a lot more professional and clean

A tip for the drainage. If you don't add a barrier between the gravel and the soil the drainage is pretty much useless. You need the air pocket underneath to let the water evaporate. If you create a dry and shallow area of soil at one side than that's where the moisture can escape. Plus points if you add activated carbon above the drainage to clean the water a bit that's passing through. After a couple weeks the soil will have sunk between the pebbles rendering your drainage ineffective

I have a feeling AntsCanada have something to do with The Ants: Underground Kingdom being so popular. The fact that an ANT simulator game app is at the top in many countries shows that people aren't listening to what the mainstream media or movies have to say, they're realizing insects aren't so scary after all. And that they're just as important to the balance as everything else. More people are appreciating them rather than squishing them, that's a good thing.
@swampyankee722 жыл бұрын
I don't know how you do it. The way you so masterfully dramatize things, your engaging voice, how you make this listener become an active member of your project, drawing people in. I mean, here I am 62 years old, and find Myself excited about..... ANTS! I'd love a colony of spiny tails, but living in the states, where ants are highly controlled, that's an impossibility. So I will follow this colony with great interest.

*TERRARIUM IDEA:* I'd love to see a city street terrarium someday. Like a slab of concrete with cracks for ants to dig into the earth below, like a city street curb in the terrarium where you drop more than just superworms and roaches for them to eat, but also human stuff like a city street... bubble gum, half eaten sandwich, a scoop of ice cream dropped by some kid, and rains that flood a small gutter... to see how city ants live!

Hey AntsCanada ! Loved the video ! i just like to advice you on the slippery paint you applied on the upper tank,it seemed too messy, though terrariums are supposed to look natural and messy ,yess.. but next time when you apply it, just apply tape just below the desired level and apply the paint and when it dries just pull the tape off, so it creates a seamless line of paint which looks pretty decent in contrast to the terrarium :D

After all the upheavals of the last couple of years, this episode made me feel like things are getting back to normal. Thank you Mikey! Btw, I had a thought about "ant security" for the new house (that's looking amazing!) while watching this. As you're going to be surrounded by invasive species - some of which could pose a threat to your colonies - I think there are a couple of things you can do which will protect them. At the bottom outside of each colony's home, you could put some fluon to stop anything climbing in. Also, you could ring the rooms, or just specific areas, with that chalky stuff that kills ants and similar pests. That way you won't have to worry about any invasions killing off your fabulous colonies, and the two things combined will put off any invaders from trying a second time. It's better than the boiling water method (though that is a fairly merciful end given the speed at which it works) and should make sure that your ants are safe. Starting with this protection should give you more restful nights!
