Just an additional note: We, the AntsCanada Team, do not collect a single penny from the GAN Farmers on their sales. The GAN Farmer chooses their own prices and keep their entire payments. The AntsCanada team also manages all the GAN Project emails that come in on a daily basis, and offers GAN Farmers discounts on our products to encourage more GAN Farmers to sign up. We do all of this without getting paid from the GAN Project because we truly believe in the advocacy. #TeamNativeAnts

AntsCanada If you got the drive to do it and the work ethic too then it's not too hard. That's not to say it isn't hard but here in the US where I'm at you have to put in a good bit of effort with your swarm prevention. In fact Spring is when you spend most of your time in the hives as the colonies come out of winter and start building back up as well as bringing in nectar and pollen. If really want to go for it then my first suggestions would be to try to find someone around you that keeps bees to try and be an apprentice of some kind and research the hobby in your area. Biggest thing you may have to worry about is the Africanised bees if you have them there.

AC question of the week answer: According to this video, catching local queen ants is better for the environment because exotic queens could be shipped illegaly, they maybe don't survive to new and different conditions and diet. Also because they can spread diseases, outcome native ants, become pests and the other exotic ants could destabilize one entire ecosystem after being released intentionally or accidentally. #antloveforever Ps: hope the golden empire is well!

I have a similar question to this. I live in North America and I'd want to get a honeypot ant queen. However, I don't live in the arid states in America, I live in Ohio bordering Indiana (aka probably one of the most biologically-boring areas I've ever seen). Would it still be alright to get them because they're still native to the country?
@gabewright55717 жыл бұрын
Theodore Hodbor I would avoid getting them due to the great differences in ecosystems, but if you can work out an ethical and fool proof way of keeping them, then try your best. I personally don't recommend that you get them because most methods of obtaining them are unethical, but as long as you can mimic their natural habitat, you should be ok.
@williamehrhardt9185 жыл бұрын
Wanting to get started into raising ants next year. Something I'm happy about is that I live in a place where the temperatures get below freezing so anything tropical will definitely not hurt the ecosystem since they will be dead within a year if they get out. Still wouldn't import from anywhere like Europe with similar temperatures where non-native ants could survive.

As long as its in your country and not something completely absent or alien to your local ecosystem it is fine. For example, owning ants from one part of Europe in another part of Europe is generally fine, but getting South American species, or Australian or vice versa etc would be problematic. For example, say you live in the city, it would not be the end of the world to have ants from the countryside etc.
