In our culture we have this myth that anxiety is super dangerous for you. That there’s an epidemic of anxiety. That Anxiety itself, the feeling, is a threat, that having that feeling is dangerous, it’s harmful, and that it’s worse than it’s ever been before. This is fueled by cultural messaging that screams - If you’re not happy all the time, something’s wrong with you! (And you should probably buy what we’re selling to fix it!) and it’s also fueled by modern media which profits off of scaring people. Literally.
I googled the anxiety epidemic and got 35 Million results. I mean, there are actually good reasons to have anxiety, if you look you can find that trouble abounds. But as far as actual dangers, we’re safer than ever.
So now instead of having a real threat to face, fight off or escape from, we’re sitting around navel gazing, getting anxiety about our anxiety. We are afraid of our feelings. We feel we must escape from them, or force them to change.
The truth is that yes, more people have disordered anxiety than ever, but the narrative that the feeling of anxiety will harm you is a lot like the idea that cauliflower is a suitable substitute for rice: a straight up lie.. Chronic stress, and chronic anxiety (which is what causes chronic stress) can cause physical illnesses. But, those are treatable, they aren’t inevitable. Feeling anxiety won’t harm you. Your body is wired to feel anxiety. It’s supposed to. You can handle it.
But when we become afraid of our feelings, then suddenly we get stuck in a super unhelpful spiral. We start struggling against them, trying to force ourselves to calm down with “deep breathing or meditation” anything to make the anxiety go away.
But this just makes things worse.
We pile anxiety onto our anxiety.
Anxiety about anxiety looks like
-Fear of losing control
-Anticipatory Anxiety:
-Feeling anxious about your anxious thoughts. Oh no! I’m catastrophizing again! This will ruin everything!

The ideas from my videos are frequently adapted from multiple sources. Many of them come from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, especially the work of Steven Hayes, Jason Luoma, and Russ Harris. I also rely heavily on the work of the Arbinger institute for my overall understanding of our ability to choose our life's direction.

this is something i am working with so hard right now. Accepting that I feel anxious and that it is okay. I have this fear that I will relapse, that my dissosiation will comeback stronger than ever, that i will be scared of the world again... All because I felt exhausted after a busy day. it's funny, I do meditation not to get rid of the original anxiety, but to calm my brain to be able to accept that "Okay, I feel anxious. Sure, it is uncomfortable, sure I might have to take today a bit slower, but it is okay". And then suddenly my original anxiety goes away on its own. its a slow process to rewire years of certain type of tought patterns, but slowly forward.

It's such a wierd and complicated thing, sometimes I get anxious about getting anxious about feeling anxious if I think about it, but other times I get relieved when I think how silly it is just to get anxious about getting anxious and it makes everything seem better because I know it's not real it's just me overthinking and the anxiety just melts away, if any of that makes any sense 🤷‍♂️

My worst anxiety is of taking anxiety meds 🤦‍♀️
@ats-3693
@ats-3693 6 ай бұрын
@@angelawhite2022 I personally think that meds should be the very last resort, if they even work for you at all meds just hide the anxiety but they don't actually fix it, you just end up stuck having to take them indefinitely. Unless you do have a medical problem that's causing you to have chemical imbalance negatively affecting your moods and emotions which 99% percent of time is not the case then meds are not the answer, understanding the way anxiety works and why it makes you feel scary physical symptoms and how you don't need to feel scared of those symptoms is the key, most of us are just creating our own anxiety because we constantly feel anxious about feeling anxious and it dominates our thoughts, we expect to feel anxious and feel scared of that expectation, we make it happen, it's a cycle that we can all overcome ❤️

In OCD, don't accept the outcome you fear, but accept the fact that you are afraid, which means that you are not on the wrong track, you have a heart and you are on the right track. For normal anxiety as well as for OCD, pat yourself on the back and say "there, there, you're alive and nobody's attacking you", "there's no danger right now, we'll face it later" or simply just "ok, duly noted" on repeat. Take away attention to something else. Distract yourself by keeping busy with something all day. Distractions work, especially for mindless nonsense anxiety, anxiety which is not real, or which is distant.

“Mindless no sense anxiety” is the definition for me. After years (I’m almost 33) I’ve just found out how important and truly spiritual can be “just having something to do” and keeping me busy! I remember for many years my brain started to sing “I just wanna have something to do” by the Ramones when my brain was suggesting “me” the reason why……… and the solution also! Thank you for putting it out like that, it helped changing my perspective on it, and perspective is crucial!

Jesus had so much anxiety he swear blood. Yeah it’s serious. But as she says there is always something you can do. I worked my bum off to change and ya know what happened-I changed! Obviously when you’re in it,you know it sucks,but taking that first step to do something that gives you a little anxiety and overcoming it,well that’s an immeasurable blessing and you feel superb after. I’m not saying it is easy. Nope. But I’m a definite example to show you can change. Also,Christ is Lord. He is the real one who helps. He wants us to make the choice sometimes I think. Thanks for all the help! You are awesome!

anxiety about anxiety is an adaptation that confers advantage on survival in a world that is trying to kill me. my response to this is, anxiety is no longer necessary if i accept the truth that Im already dead, as stated by Lt Spears in the series Band of Brothers. I don’t mean to trivialize anxiety (which I have struggled with) but rather to encourage the view that death is inevitable so perhaps its better to not waste my life worrying about it and instead venture forth beyond my comfort zones and create good memories that prove my anxiety is not necessary or desirable and in fact is counterproductive to my interests in living well.

That was the issue for me during the past 4 years. I started getting severe panick attacks after a traumatic experience and ended up getting stuck in the cycle of being constantly afraid of having attacks, which led me to have them often. Anxiety and panick attacks turned into my worst fear in my whole life. I was taking a lot of medications, but I was resistant to therapy and didn't believe anything could help me but the meds (that didn't actually work 100%). Then a few months ago I got pregnant and had to stop all my pills and had to face anxiety. Took me months, but I finally got to understand that I am indeed the one who can stop it. Your videos helped me a lot! I am so thankful to have found this channel. Now I'm 3 months anxiety free and even if I feel anxious sometimes, I won't let it take over me, so it's always under control.

That is amazing to hear and I'm so happy you have found your path. Sometimes I believe I am going to be the hardest anxiety sufferer to treat. Or that I won't be good enough at the mental work or articulating my issues.Thats the anxiety talking though. Ive just started seeing a therapist who specializes in anxiety. Mine came on in October after a hard month, heart arrhythmia, sick, throwing out back, our youngest born, wearing a heart monitor, all in a month. Although i had anxiety before it was always directed on the outside world. I haven't been my old self since. I now have anxiety everyday in some form which adds a touch of depression. It's usually my first thought in the morning. It starts with self checking and worrying about still having anxiety until i feel symptoms. What a crummy cycle. But yours and others who share their journey gives myself and I'm sure so many others hope and courage to stay the course. ❤

Lost a lottttt of sleep over it. Felt like I was gonna die in the car on the way to a doctor’s appointment. I think this might be the worst I’ve ever felt, honestly. “Can’t be anxious if I refuse to think” 😂 that really made me laugh. I don’t think I’ve done that in a while. Yikes, lol. Thank you so much for all these videos. I did some of the exercises you instructed, and they’ve definitely helped. ❤

Yes, the truth about cauliflower 'rice' 😂 I think I have this cyclic problem with work performance and depression. I'm afraid the depression gets worse, then I worry about work performance, which makes less focussed and less productive, which me feel like bad about myself and that makes me feel more depressed. I'm trying to let the thoughts go. To not keep spiralling. Just acknowledging them and then do something to distract me a bit. It's difficult.

One of the best things I've learned, especially from the book called 30 Days to Reduce Stress by Harper Daniels, is to not fight anxiety. I use to be so afraid of the next panic attack or anxiety inducing trigger, and then I would try to preemptively manage the experience by struggling. Learning to let go and give anxiety space to do its thing and pass is hard, but it's helped a lot. I just try to give it space and allow myself to feel the anxiety, it's strange but it seems to help.

I just want to share some tricks I've used during overwhelming times with great results! Theres several I hope they help! I visualize blowing up a big balloon with everything thats causing me anxiety and then pop it with a pin! ( It makes you feel so in control ) or you can just let it flow away. ( very calming ) I visualize a small cloud filling up to a storm cloud. And let it rain down ( so calming.) When I have bad thoughts spinning in my head over and over again . ( I call it tornado or hurricane thinking) I push an eject button at the temple of my head like a cd or dvd eject button This one you may have to do several times. But, it works! Driving home from a bad day or a situation. Once I cross a disignated street or landmark. I leave it all behind. I've been doing this since the 90's. Its remarkable how in control and calming it feels. And you can do it anywhere. Your car, the hallway, in front of others! It visual in your mind only. Hope this helps anyone and everyone❤

Your wonderful, Good girl.... ive had this and its silly, but hard until you work through it and heal at the time. I have fear of large shops now. I have to tell myself off and say stop it when i feel it coming helps to ward it off., and saying your SAFE. It all effects my bodies reactions. But have to keep going out, bit by bit and face my fears. Not avoidance;-) write it all down and make a lig also helps. Its so difficult, but i know its doable to change your thoughts and fears, its all in our minds folks....

The worst part of my anxiety is physical symptoms that seem like something else, and cause more anxiety. Deep relaxation meditation and tapping have definitely helped. Takes persistence - have to stick with it and make it a routine. There are many great relaxation meditations on KZbin - you have to experiment and decide whose voice is calming to you. Nick Ortner has two excellent tapping meditations on KZbin, as well. He's the best. And thank you, Emma. YOU are the best at what you are doing for all of us!

The problem is not always that one perceives anxiety to be dangerous, but rather just extremely unpleasant. When you feel chronically very unpleasant, it is very hard to be okay with it being there. Especially if the fysical symptoms accompanying it, are so bad you can't even do the thing you intended to do in the first place. So the thought of just letting it be there can cause a lot of mental resistance. Any tips about that?

I don't know much I'm myself struggling, but maybe this helps - try to think opposite of what your physical symptoms are.. not when you are experiencing them, but when you are calmer. While experiencing difficult sensations, tell your mind that it's okay.. this is just "anxiety" this labels it and creates distance, then sit with it.. think that if this sensation will come.. so be it.. I'm gonna observe the entire event, this isn't mortal danger.. this too will pass and just experience it.. I know it may sound daunting at 1st.. and trust me, few days will be bad.. but you'll see improvement

I totally understand it. You just get so tired of always feeling BAD, especially that your brain tends to focus on negative stuff so you overlook the little moments of content or happines during the day. What I try to do is to think about it as a common human experience (I was inspired by the three elements of self-compassion acc to Dr Kristin Neff). Yes, I am suffering, but all humans are. This is an essential part of life (and obviously not all people have anxiety disorders but they may experience other severe difficulties). I'd rather be alive and feel like this than be unable to feel anything, or never live at all. These emotions are a proof that I'm a real human and I am here right now. Thinking about it calms me down immensely.

One important thing that I learned about my brain is that it doesn’t care what the “something” is. It just knows that you are fearing something. As long as you are feeding that fear it is gonna pump the adrenaline to you in order to fight that some thing. Even if that something is anxiety, if you fear it it will continue to treat it as just a something. Regardless of if its anxiety, a bear, or something benign like the color orange. If you fear it, it will help you fight it.

If you are a totally healthy person with normal human emotions,and priviledged enough to be not facing actual danger,the message from the video is perfect. Within complex childhood trauma,the feeling of tiredness from insomnia could be a often seen trigger source.That's what cause the anxiety of insomnia so horrible. It's not only about fearing the insomnia itself,but also another trauma induced mental breakdown.And only one single breakdown could be touturous enough to build a life long fear for it,let along many of us here probably have been through some hell.So if your trauma is complex,especially has something to do with the childhood,it's totally normal to not be able to reach what was told in this video overnight.This video should be combined with other sources of information on how trauma triggers you if you have complex problems.A single video is not a magic spell.We need to first understand the layers of our fear to accept it.I would recommend DR.Patrick CC on this topic
