Response time, primarily. Other technologies can achieve 0.5ms input delay, so they're favoured over IPS. There are great strides being made to bring the response time down 😁

I bought an AOC 24G2E for $144 because of this review. The "E" model has a stand with only tilt adjustment, no lighting on the monitor, no included display port cable, no usb, no speakers, but the display is exactly the same. So if you get the "E" make sure to order a DP cable too. Amazing monitor. I wish I had gotten one sooner.

I was actually debating whether I should go AOC or ViewSonic… At the end I saw the same 23'8, IPS, 1080p 144hz specs on the Asus VG249Q and went with that. It is a bit more pricey, but definitely has more features. I think It's worth checking out if you're having the same debate.

At our IT store, my colleagues were skeptical of the quality of the monitor but I've sweared by it and still do, including to our customers. @@ZhekaTrololo Well, the first thing I noticed when I setup the monitor on the desk was that it seemed too close for the distance I usually played at. Just had to go back a tiny bit and it quickly looked fine. In terms of the pixels, yeah if I look too close, you can kinda see but I have bad eyesight so maybe that's why it doesn't bother me. I also wanted a bigger screen because for watching movies at a distance (layed down on bed), it's awesome. The distance from the monitor to myself when playing is around a meter, filling my frontal FOV. If anything it made playing feel more immersed on RPGs and focused on FPS games (mainly play Destiny 2 tho) A workmate also got the same size and he had the same opinion, basically being that if you sit too close to the monitor, you can see the pixels if you focus on that. The moment you step back a bit to a comfortable distance, it looks great. (He mainly plays FIFA and came from a 22" monitor).

I have had this monitor for 3 weeks now, and have to admit I was quite blown away by it at first. Fortunately my unit seems not to have any issue , as many poeple got defective units. On the flip side , many poeple and myself included (a quick google search will tell you ) experience really bad eye strain and headaches with this monitor , tweaking the settings can help but so far dont get rid of the effect. This is especially true when working and reading on the screen. It creates a tension in the eyes and numbness in the forehead feeling, almost nauseous as time. Really hard to describe as it's the first time in my life I get such feeling with a screen. I would also love to understand what causes this feeling. I personally have been coming from a old 8 years old Philips Led brilliance 248C screen , but been on various kind of screen all life long. Also been on a Mac retina IPS screen beforehand.

I've bought the 24G2U (U means it also has speakers and an USB hub, which I don't use but it's nice) and it was a flawless purchase, really love the high refresh rate. Gone is the black smearing of my old VA monitor, which now serves as my secondary one in portrait mode. I definitely recommend this monitor as well.

@@jonathanphang I have g sync on with my 2070. The display is gorgeous, good viewing angle and great color. Only issue I've had is when my wife turned the monitor to the racing game mode. White text smeared. But on normal display with overdrive is smooth as butter.

Bought this based Mostly on your review. Consulted a few (quite a few actually) other sources but pretty much everyone is aligned on this being the single best 144hz 1080p monitor under 200. Have to agree, though my experience is limited to the few monitors ive tried, I couldnt be happier with this beast. 165hz overclocked, super clear crisp and Accurate colors. Free/Gsync its got it all. All you could really want that is.

24g2U and the 27g2U is not the same as the 24g2 and the 27g2 (I had to learn this the hard way). The “U” version has built in speakers and USB ports on the back, where the version without the “U” doesn’t have either.

Just got it a second time for dual monitor setup. Tested it for month now and I am very happy with it! Although since I was on 60fps gaming I now wonder what 240Hz would look like. 60Hz to 120/144Hz is more noticable, but still I feel like low latency, low input lagg, high refresh rates and all together gives this feeling of direct controll over what happens on the screen. Now I am very sure that I just suck and don't even try to blame it on the hardware ;) Very nice monitor. Buy it if you are looking for 1080p gaming!

The 27" version of this monitor are sold everywhere with tons of stocks available but 24" is sold out everywhere... had to drive 2 hrs to pick up this monitor yesterday... 24" Flat 1080p IPS 144hrz 1ms (MPRT) with Adaptive Sync under $200???... What more can I ask for?... Absolutely worth the ride! Got mine with no dead pixel, IPS glow is very minimal & backlight bleed is low and not visible. Using your recommended settings... FANTASTIC

Lower resolution w/ higher frame rates on consoles depends on the game dev's choice, not sony's. So you'll be gaming at 4k 30fps-60fps for 99% of games unfortunately

Yes, it tilts and is also height adjustable. You simply move it up or down and it stays where you move it too without any further action. Very pleased so far.

I was looking for an upgrade for my 10 year old 1080p 60Hz TN monitor around November last year, and found this monitor (or more specifically the 24G2U variant available in germany) thanks to the comments on your videos. It took a bit over a month for Amazon to actually ship it when I ordered it in December, but it was definitely worth the wait. One thing that I feel wasn't quite clear in this review is that the monitor does have an SRGB color mode in the color temperature settings of the OSD (though this does lock pretty much all controls, including brightness). Was this mode ever used in testing? Other than that, great review, the pros and cons mentioned in the video (like the rather high minimum brightness) definitely match my experience.

You can set color temp. to user and manually set colors (red,green and blue) to sRGB values and you also won't have locked brightness

@@hammerfall6666 Contrast between dark and light colour. Dark scene in VA panel will show more detail than an IPS. Blacks appear grey in IPS. Blacks appear black in VA. I said IPS has better colour, but what mean is IPS has better colour accuracy than VA, except in the dark spectrum. If you have a room with a lot of artificial or natural light then contrast pitfalls with an IPS is not really apparent. This changes in dark environment however.

You know what, I watched the video Hardware Unboxed did about Top 5 Best IPS Gaming Monitors of 2019 and in that review you said you dont recomend the 27G2 (which is the 27" version of this monitor, and has the same panel) because it is 6 bit+frc no name panel without even testing it. I went on that and bought a LG 27GL650F-B which he did not do a video on but still recommended instead of the AOC that I wanted to buy which was much cheaper. Now we have this review titled the best 1080p 144hz monitor you can get when you said you dont recommed it because of the panel ????????????????????? I watch all your videos and I enjoy them but this really upset me.

It's alright to be upset, but he did preface that he never tested the panel or that series of monitors before. You're better off watching reviews of panels they actually review and have results for or finding someone else who does to make a decision. Probably best to take it as a lesson to do more research or go with your gut anyhow, especially when recommendations come from no testing.
