Thank you for exposing this. I’m still blown away at how people can fly this. I have been trying for what seems like forever with all different curves etc but no luck.

It’s tough and takes some work if you don’t have any experience in helicopters. it’s tough even if you do. 😂

Very cool, interesting how you can watch the collective SCAS go way beyond 10% limit without any hold mode engaged. It kicks the SAS Saturated warning tone. I think the grey box represents the SCAS range and you can watch the SCAS green line exceed its limits. The system, for some reason in the current build, is trying to maintain altitude. It's a WIP so not throwing rocks, just noting that is does not function as it should currently. If you move the collective a mere .5 inches the hold mode should disengage, it does not, or rather it indicates that it does but it is still fighting pilot input all the way. Unsure if they are trying to simulate Heave Damping?

Yes, they gray box is supposed to represent the authority limits of the SAS, and I’ve also seen the same thing you have. Hopefully they fix it soon.

Yeah, just started back flying the Apache, thought it was low altitude at first, then I figured it out. I have gotten very good at ignoring it now

Was wondering why I never heard this sound once. It's because I don't use trim.

6 months ago I went on a hiatus on DCS after leaving the Apache with a confident ability to fly it. As I begun to fly it again last week, I've noticed this tone happening so often besides flying quite steadily. 4 months since this video has been released, and this issue is still there? *sigh...* Thanks for the explanation!

Ok good to know the technical cause to that SUPER annoying tone! I found it strange that I was constantly overloading the SAS so its good to know its something that shouldn't be happening if your flying without exceeding aircraft limitations.

I've been attempting to fly the Apache since its release and just recently had a good amount of successes thanks to you and Casmo. As a former 67R, I was very nostalgic in getting this for DCS. Thank you for the great videos! Out of curiosity, what model did you fly IRL and what unit? I was with the 8th/229th at Ft. Knox from 94 to 97.

I was in 1-101 from 2000-2003 where I started in A models, then transitioned to Ds. Small world - I commanded 8-229 in 2017-2018 after the battalion transitioned to 60s. 🫡

the main question is.. The SAS is working properly but the tone is not working properly? (not big deal, just the annoying tone) OR the SAS is NOT working properly and for that reason the tone ?(that IS a big deal because it means that the helicopter is flying different at how it should).
@schoolio64D
@schoolio64D 2 жыл бұрын
It appears that the tone is working as it should, sounding when the SAS reaches its limits. I don’t believe that the SAS is working properly, as it shouldn’t reach its limits so quickly/frequently. Thanks for the question and for watching!

@@schoolio64D In my experience it looks like the SAS saturation happens for the collective much more frequently than for the cyclic, in particular whenever I make altitude changes without holding down the force trim release. Is the correct behavior that the Apache will try to hold altitude through SAS even if the altitude hold mode is not engaged? I've seen quite a few over-torques due to an already high level-flight torque % followed by diving to the ground without changing the collective, e.g., during combat employment. Thanks for your videos, really enjoying learning about the Apache from you!
@schoolio64D
@schoolio64D 2 жыл бұрын
No, it shouldn’t try to hold altitude without a hold mode engaged. There are definitely issues with the SAS in all axes, as turning off the FMC for each axis still results in a SAS saturated message and tone. It’s definitely frustrating and hopefully ED addresses it soon.

Thx for the insight. I was wondering what happened with the Apache since last updates when flying it. I got so frustrated with all these little bugs I am currently back on my Mi-24P. Flys alot better and feels more finished over all. I am also curious why the hell the Apache flys so much more wobbly with the yaw in comparison to the Mi-24P. Is the yaw especially at low speeds that bad in real life? At first I thought my pedals were meh, but flying the Mi-24P real fine keeps me wondering...

what can happen to just ignoring it entirely ? it seems the FM is a bit borked atm, i've had uncommanded barrel roll i wouldnt know how to explain, how glad i was to have altitude and clearance when that happened...
@schoolio64D
@schoolio64D Жыл бұрын
The SAS helps you, so you really should reset it when it’s saturated. That being said, you could ignore it and it wouldn’t affect things too much. The flight model is still slightly off.

Thanks for the video. I love the apache and the challenge that is flying it, I feel that is very hard compared to all other modules, i think ED could bring us a option in "Special" that would let this module easier. Yes, i know a lot of ppl will say that this would break the imersion, but for beginners it could help
