Delighted to see Dr. Nadir and Dr. Fung team up. They both have different views on fasting duration and loss of lean muscle mass and also have differing views on rising metabolic rate when you fast. I hope they will collaborate and agree on an optimal fasting regime rather than leave each to promote their own regimens. I appreciate and greatly respect both of these doctors and there is so much synergistic potential having them both working together. Both have helped and given me insights in my quest to overcome T2D. This is exciting news.

I love the Dr and his work. Maybe we can all smile a bit more and leave the politics behind in the comments as well. I just want to get on to learning as much as possible from the generosity of Dr Ali. We get all this tremendous information for free. I feel very blessed and grateful for Dr Ali's commitment to sharing. Thank you.

I'm really glad that Dr. Ali's views on metabolism are evolving... He is not a hypocrite when he said that insulin sensitivity can be improved by glucose/fructose... Fructose doesn't need insulin to enter cells... which keto promoters would never admit...

Hi Tomas .. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jqmqmoRtjteIj6c I’ve attached a link to another video that I think you’ll also find fascinating. I’m a big fan of Dr. Nadir Ali and will continue to follow the research/science with the information he’s presenting. I’ve been living a ketogenic/fasting lifestyle for many years ..so I’m also a big fan of Dr. Jason Fung. From what I’m understanding in this presentation Dr. Ali is not suggesting that insulin sensitivity can be improved by glucose/fructose .. but rather once someone has fixed their metabolic state back to normal .. that they would be in a position to cyclically activate their insulin receptor with higher glycemic foods. Whether fructose needs or doesn’t need insulin to enter cells really isn’t a big deal with someone who has metabolic issues. People who deal with weight, diabetes, cancer, autoimmune, cardiovascular and neurological diseases are more concerned with keeping their glucose levels as low as possible in order to reverse these illnesses. As Dr. Ali also states that although his original views on why the cells weren’t accepting more glucose is changing that the reason causing the deterioration of the insulin receptors in the cells are still being caused by carbohydrates/glucose. Therefore the need for low/no carbohydrate diets as well as fasting in order to keep our bodies in a state of ketosis still exists for those who have this metabolic problem until at some point in time it can be reversed or fixed. Although the body/especially the brain can use either glucose or ketones as fuel .. the preferred fuel is still ketones .. as it was when we were all born. ✨

Very educational information. explains so much why diabetics keep going more downhill no matter what you treat them with. I wish more people understand that medications are not the awnser. you. One has to change the diet and lifestyle without which everything else is only cosmetic. please keep up the good work.

Fantastic discussion Nadir. Following you and Jason Fung I've lost 50lbs in the last 8 months by Keto and Fasting. I have a question about drinking "Coke Zero". It has zero carbs and zero sugar. I stopped drinking regular coke with sugar 8 months ago. Will drinking "Coke Zero" still continue to add more adipose and body fat to my body?

Yes. Your body senses the sweetness in the mouth and your pancreas will release extra insulin to prepare for that sweetness even if it ends up sugar free. The taste of sweetness in the mouth is enough to cause a gush of insulin, unfortunately. Switch to sparkling water if you miss the carbonated “bite.”

Elaine, I think you miss the impact of politics on health. For example, the active and malign dismantling of healthcare provision for people who otherwise could never afford it or the current administration's recent policy changes designed to increase the profitability of Big Food by removing regulation of UNHEALTHY foods. Every thinking person should be involved in stopping this type of exploitation.

Ah, I remember the old days when "conservatives" would make a "joke" at the expense a certain person or group, and when it wasn't received well, they would comment that liberals are just too sensitive and can't take a joke. This was clearly a joke. And it had sophistication and nuance. It wasn't simply calling Trump stupid. And it elicited plenty of laughter from the group. Nadir is actually a very funny guy.

@@martinirving3824 if I want to read about politics, I know plenty of places to find it. However, when I am looking for medical information, I expect the doctor to be totally professional and not conflate it with politics. The channel About says it is about Eat Mostly Fat and has no mention of politics, child rearing, baseball, or any other irrelevant topic. If he wants to talk politics, he could join the thousands others who have a second channel with a different purpose. Besides, roughly half this country supports our President. I don't think it is in Dr. Ali's interest to alienate so many people. Don't think that such hostility towards President Trump doesn't bother many other people. You do know I said this because while you have frightened many like me into silence, it doesn't work on me. I said this also because I like and respect Dr. Ali professionally and want him to be successful. He has already responded to me about this matter in a most gracious manner, appreciating my concern and constructive criticism. You and you friends can belittle me all you want since you like demonstrating your character issues that way but it has no effect on me. I hope you feel better and have a speedy recovery from your TDS.

Fantastic presentation until he decided to insert a Trump bad - “incurable dementia” reference. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve encountered examples of this as a member of the captive audience that is academia. The arrogance of the left has always baffled me. These are intelligent people so they have to realize that not everyone in the audience aligns with them politically and yet they take unsolicited political swipes and risk alienating/annoying half of their audience any way. I would never take advantage of my position as a teacher or presenter to espouse my own personal political beliefs or let alone risk insulting my audience. This guy is discussing the molecular mechanisms behind insulin resistance and decides to insult the POTUS half way through. These people are incredible! Libs will flame this critique of course because they’ve never been on the receiving end in academia given it’s an arrogant bastion for liberal thought. It’s the ultimate display of narcissism and bullying to take advantage of a captive audience in this way... qualities the left pretends to abhor. It would be analogous to me luring you to my innocuous presentation on the HPTA axis only to insert a slide half way through designed to shame/insult those ignorant members of the audience who believe a fetus at 3 months can’t experience pain during an abortion procedure... because a fetus really isn’t a human life. America wouldn’t be half as intolerant, contentious and annoying as it is if people would just stay in their lane and keep their political ideologies to themselves. If you’re here to teach/present on ApoE4 then stick to the script! As for incurable dementia... a Biden pic would’ve been far more appropriate. If that happened... libs would be working to cancel Nadir Ali as I type this...
