You know I try to stay away from these idiotic threads but frankly the constant Apple bashing that has been going on since the late 80s is really tired. Everyone pounding on those keyboards, texting, taking selfies and enjoying the GUI interface should get on their knees and pray towards Cupertino and give a huge thanks to the late Steve Jobs, Wozianak and others for taking already existing technologies, perfecting them and bringing to the consumer market. Had Microsoft had their way we would be pounding away on on DOS 100.0. Apple is certainly not perfect by any means, they have had a more than their share of misses but they always seem beat the odds and defy the nay sayers (calling Micheal Dell).

When I was doing a multimedia course back in 2005 they upgraded all their powermac G4s to iMac G5s and we all got to unbox and set up out own machines. These computers look amazing when they are brand new but they do age pretty poorly. They were also a real pain in the ass to carry around if you had to move them any further then across the room. It would be interesting to see this design sort of revisited in a slimmer form factor since you wouldn't have an optical drive though it would also be interesting to see the G4 design revisited.

Ah, back when Apple made products better AND cheaper every year.

@LittleEmoBoy001 The main reason was because IBM was not developing the architecture in an ambitious way. It was holding them back. At the time there were significant performace difference for the same power being consumed by the equivelant Intel. It also meant increased compatability with x86 software allowing boot camp for one of many benefits.

This is the nicest machine ever designed, to this day.

It's an amazing design, but they died so quickly. So many iMac G5's and PowerMac G5's with broken power supplies...

It's actually pretty ugly. I mean, the first iMac was like a Tv Screen. It was great. The Sunflower design for me is still one of the best iMac Apple ever made. The newer Aluminium ones are pretty sleek in design but the G5? Nah, it's ugly as hell
@luckylife998 жыл бұрын
Le Docteur the G5 is pretty much the exact same design as the iMacs of today, just thicker. Don't know what your complaining about

It seems bulky.

Le Docteur I have to agree, the G5 and early core duo iMacs I find to be the ugliest iMacs made. The g5 has to be one of my least favorite Mac computers made. From a performance, design, and reliability standpoint.

It's so crazy how quickly time goes by. This was the first computer I did serious work on as a top of the line machine. If I saw it today sitting in a school, I'd think "man this place is underfunded"

The white Imac is gorgeous when you see it in person, it's very zen and looks like a home computer that fits in with any decor, where as the aluminum is still very gorgeous as well, but looks very professional and industrial. I think Apple should never have discontinued the white model.

I know. It's always funny to see how expensive stuff was back then. The 17'' iMac G4 costing nearly $2,000 was my favorite.

@AppleProductFan these contained full sized desktop hard drives, ram, fans, and a processor that was very fast for a desktop in 2004.

Get the white one with the built-in iSight camera and better processor/hard drive. I don't know if it's still called the G5, but it's great.

At this time I bought a PC with a P4 running at 3 GHz. I got 512 MB DDR400 DC and an ATi 9800XT superior to the competing nVidia FX5900. A DVD-Burner was also integrated as well as g-Wi-Fi and a TV-Tuner for only 999€... and a 17"-TFT for about 280€. Why did anyone buy these hyper-expensive machines those days? Because they are beautiful and "all-in-one"? *lol* BTW: Why is All-in-one-Design so good? If my iMac is too slow I have to chuck out the display with it. Is this really convenient?

@YouHaveMetYourMaker These were redesigned in 2006 with a slimmer design and were the first macs to receive the intel core duo and core 2 duo processors. They came in 17", 20" & 24" =)

I had one, back then. Unfortunately it didn't last very long. Around 2021 some diodes on the mainboard died and the screen only showed stripes anymore. Wish I had it still today.
