This was a great video! Sure instilled some confidence in a job that I probably wouldn't have attempted without watching it. Although I had looked at the my inlet valve I was struggling with the fact that I had screw on connectors and the part showed push on so I was afraid to order it in case it didn't work. The video gave me the confidence to go ahead. Thank you for clearing this up. I struggled with separating the inlet supply line from the inlet valve so instead of trying to pry it I drilled it out with 1/4" drill bit. Worked perfect! Thanks again.

Thanks for the video. It was a big help. I'm glad I watched before starting. Initially I thought those caps on the connection were just plugs to keep the water inlets clean and I almost pulled them off. The instruction about pulling the 2 pieces apart cleared up that confusion too. Nice going

Solid guidance here helped me with the transition from old style connections to the newer, and only available, for new water valve on my 30 year old die hard Kenmore Elite. Note that you MUST test for leakage as it's hard to tell whether or not you pushed the tubing in hard enough to make a tight seal. I had to mess with it to eliminate seepage 100%. In plumbing, anything less than 100% leak free is failure.

Thank you so much for this video. I especially like the common sense discription like squaring off after cutting and that the parts look different but function the same. Addressing this makes a person who isn't an expert but a DIKZbinr feel a lot more confident in her repair. And I installed this about 4 months ago by piecing together from other videos and service manuals. If its leaking from both it could be a few things. Such as the valve is bad or clogged and its letting water through. The refrigerator needs 30-120 lbs of water pressure to work, if its low they could slowly leak. Many people have a problem if they install a R/O system, as it drops the pressure to the refrigerator. Make sure the water supply valve is all the way open. A dirty, clogged water filter can also cause pressure problems, make sure if you have one it is new and changed regularly.
@appliancepartspros12 жыл бұрын
First check for any ice build up in the tube that goes through the back wall. The water valve could be clogged or not working properly. You can test the solenoid that opens the water valve, it should read between 300-500 ohms. Make sure you unplug the refrigerator first. If the solenoid check out then it could be an issue with the ice maker. If you have any questions please feel free to post on our repair forum.

Ronald Wilhelm, I cannot respond as you have the reply feature off. Once you turn the water on it may take a little while for the ice maker to go through a cycle and call for water. If your valve was leaking water up to the ice maker make sure the fill tube going through the back wall is not iced up. If it still does not make ice you will have to look deeper and see it there is another problem such as the ice maker itself or maybe the infrared sensor, if you have that. You can also post the problem along with the appliance model number on our repair forum and the techs can help you troubleshoot the problem.

If you go to our site and click on the top where it says repair forum you can search for "ice maker not working" and get some info. Or you can ask your own question. @appliancepartspros10 жыл бұрын
Leroy Hudson You have to check the solenoids for ohms, you can usually find the ohm rating on the wiring schematics. Generally water inlet valve solenoids should have between 200-500 ohms. If the solenoid in not in that range it is bad and the valve would have to be changed.
@JGHilde19 жыл бұрын
AppliancePartsPros This is excellent advice - always checkout the solenoid with an ohm meter. My icemaker wasn't producing, but a bit of analysis showed the tines were turning. I pulled out the solenoid (based on this video) and checked - sure enough the icemaker side was reading 0 ohms. Careful visual inspection revealed a small melted bubble on the side of the solenoid cylinder. Thanks, guys!!!

It is always best to look up the part by the model number on our site. But here is the note we have on this water valve: Due to manufacturer changes this valve no longer includes the removable pre-filter bracket. If you are unable to use the old removable pre-filter bracket order AP5306962.

Thank you. You will need to cycle the ice maker and test at the water valve to see if you have 120 volts there when the ice maker cycles. If you have power there and it's not allowing water to the ice maker then you will need to replace the water valve. If you don't have power there then you will need to replace the ice maker.
@BrettGlassАй бұрын
@@appliancepartspros Thanks, I'm surprised they run 120 volts AC to that winding. I expected there was a step down to DC somewhere. I think I'm getting voltage to the valve because I'm getting some water. Before I replaced the flex tray I had large blocks of ice building up in the bucket, but now just half or less the amount of water needed getting to the tray. Water dispenser side good volume and I replaced the filter.

hey this is an excellent video and thanks for posting it it may very well save my hide. i'm a floor mechanic and i had to disconnect the fridge (exact same one as shown above) and when i went to hook it back up, it started leaking. It was a very slow leak but a leak none the less. the leak occurred at the second connection in, not the copper line which baffled me. i watched your video and decided to dig in and try it. i tried several times and got the same result, a very slow leak. i tried to cut the line thinking that maybe it needed a new edge on it. same thing again. it seemed that when it was held on a certain angle it didn't leak.do you think i need to get a whole new water inlet valve assembly or should i just keep trying until i succeed. we already have the new part but that 70 bucks is an expense that i'd rather avoid. your advice and expertise in these matters is greatly appreciated
@appliancepartspros10 жыл бұрын
Alexandra Fry There is a o-ring and locking teeth inside each of those quick connect fittings. The line must be smooth and square, with no rough edges that may damage the o-ring. You have to push the line straight up till it bottoms out in the valve. If the line is pulling to one side it could distort the o-ring. If the o-ring is damaged you have to replace the whole valve.
@appliancepartspros11 жыл бұрын
If it does not have a built in water filter the water line should go from the valve to the water reservoir in the fresh food compartment. If it has a built in water filter the water goes through the filter first, then to the reservoir and out to the dispenser.

If you pulled the refrigerator out and moved it around it could have cracked the hose. Those plastic hoses get old and brittle, sometimes all it takes is a little pressure or tension and you get a leak. I can't see how the other problems could cause this, other than it made you move the appliance. I think you will be alright, if you replace the supply line.

Boy, wish my fridge was that clean back there! I have a whirlpool gold side by side complete with ice maker and dispenser in the door... The inlet water line vibrates loudly intermittently when dispensing water in the door...I pulled the inlet line off looking for obstructions debris, didn't really see anything...Finally, I thought that perhaps the water filter was messed up and replaced it, even though it was fairly new. This seemed to solve the problem for a few weeks, but now the inlet line has started vibrating again...Just seems like there is an obstruction somewhere, but don't know how to troubleshoot this further....What do you think?

Gary Gleason I am not sure if they are all the same. You can go to our site and enter the model number of the appliance, to view the parts breakdown.

Ok, followed these instructions with my Kenmore fridge and they were perfect, thanks! HOWEVER, the ice maker (which had been switched off due to a leak at the valve each time it tried to make ice) is now not making any ice. No water sounds like before as it pulled water up into the maker, no indication that it's doing anything, and of course, no ice in the tray. Everything is connected and installed correctly -- what could possibly be the cause of the ice maker now not pulling water to make ice, and really, not doing anything? Quick note: the little red light next to the ice maker ON/OFF switch inside the freezer is blinking red...

Use silver tape on carboard back where it meet metal on bottom on coil side, otherwise fan will not pull air across coil properly. I clean coil with soapy water in pump sprayer, works well and is easy. If coils are not cleaned compressor runtimes and life greatly shortened. Don't pay more then 20-25 for these on ebay same valve.

This is probably what is wrong with mine as we are getting water through the dispenser but not the ice maker. However it would be nice to know what steps to take PRIOR to this to trouble shoot the problem. For example I see air in the water line going up the back on the outside of the refrigerator, it is one of the lines that goes to the inlet valve.
