Not really. It's obvious, unless not, that we have just one mother or father. But in case you have multiple mothers or fathers, you can mention the one you're referring to.

There are two ways to look at it. 1. Generally, people have just one mother. So, you don't have to take the proper noun to identify her. It is understood the speaker is referring to the only mother. Here, the name (appositive) will be non-essential. 2. Here, a person may have multiple mothers. In this case, talking the name of the mother will be vital to identify the one the speaker wants to point out. Here, it will be essential.
