I love that Khan just blatantly stretches his ego to Kirk's face and explicitly states "I wanted you to know first who it was who had beaten you".
@brianmccullough2342Ай бұрын
He's not just gloating, he has an ulterior motive, getting Kirk to give him Genesis in exchange for sparring his crew. He's not doing the cliche of the villain monologuing giving the hero a chance, he's trying to get an extremely powerful weapon while he has the upper hand.
@eclecticguy70654 ай бұрын
Ricardo wore the role of Khan like a suit of armor. You could tell he was absolutely loyal to his people, but at the same time had an ego that would ultimately be the end of them all. When his First makes the point "we have a starship and are free to go wherever you like. You've already defeated Kirk by freeing us" or words to that effect, he wasn't wrong. But Khan's ego wouldn't stop till either or Kirk were dead. And, even Kirk is, literally a, genius (and has the benefit of Spock's) , to Khan they're inferiors in need of being put in their place.
@jamesbutler88213 ай бұрын
I wouldnt say he was loyal to his people at all. With Genesis and a starship they could have ruled, or at least set themselves up pretty well in the galaxy. Khan could have replicated it and used it to terrorize everyone into submission. Going head to head with Kirk, a guy who had beaten him back in his best days, then repeated it just off the cuff when Khan had literally JUST surprised him was insane. Khan may be more intelligent but Kirk obviously has his number. Best to leave that in the rear view mirror, as Joachim so states.

I was in shock when I first saw this because this is also the 5 digit number to our P.O. Box for our family owned company in west Seattle since 1962. When I saw the movie and it was 16309…I was like, we are getting SO much mail after this… it never came. No one else made the connection.

Absolute perfection of a scene.. still amazes me and I've watched it dozens of times. I am still pounding my desk with my fist just as I pounded seat's hand rest all those years. And that is how great movies are made.

Reliant's IT director must have been pissed when the captain chose a 5 digit password, no upper or lower case letters, no symbols.

I never was into Star Trek, whether on tv or the movies. Though when I read and heard about this particular one and how the writers, director and producer went back to view all the original Star Trek tv episodes and decided on the selection of this specific one due to its characters, etc. also the original “villain” Richardo Montaban was returning to reprise his role of the original character, I was intrigued to see the movie, because I am a big Richardo Montaban fan. After seeing it I was glad I did! For it was surely the very best Star Trek movie “ever”! I didn’t have to see any of the other Star Trek movies after that, because I knew none would compare to Star Trek The Wrath of Khan! I got so caught up with this specific movie and its storyline, etc. that it made me look and find and see the specific Star Trek episode that it was all based on…”Space Seed”.

A great takeaway here is Jim realized he should’ve listened to Saavik. And he wasn’t too proud to admit he fucked up

So every Federation starship has a public-facing API that allows another ship to lower its shields using a 5-digit decimal code? Yeah, you would definitely want that. (Still love the movie.)
@DuetJay6 ай бұрын
I'm just going to assume that the code automatically changes after a single botched attempt, because otherwise the whole point is ridiculously stupid. I note that it was never mentioned again in any movie or series franchise.
@FP1945 ай бұрын
If you listen to the dialogue the prefix code is to prevent an enemy from hacking into the ship’s computer and lower the shields
@springbloom59405 ай бұрын
No. Not at all what happened. Khan had to give him access to Reliant's computer and then Spock slaved Enterprise's command console to it like a wireless keyboard and lowered the shields.

When the Reliant was not responding to hails and faking a chamber coil malfunction when Spock scanned the Reliant then said '' their shields are going up '' that Kirk would have known something is wrong and raised Enterprise's shields quicker he thought the Reliant was still friendly ship but it wasn't anymore raising shields was not part of Yellow Alert in this time period just only for Red Alert .

Again, you are looking at it from an outsider's perspective. In the heat of the moment, especially in life and death situations, errors can be made because the brain is trying to work while trying to fight the stress. Adrenaline doesn't always work in your favor.

@@lakecountynaturalist7617 You failed to factor training into the mix. in a situation where a potentially friendly ship raises shields the appropriate reaction is to do the same. If there is a danger aboard there is no guarantee that the shields would contain it and if one ship spots something the other did not it's reasonable to respond the same way. Also, if there is a situation where transport is necessary, and both are on the same team, then they can modulate the shields to allow transport. So in reality the hesitation was to allow for the story since normal response from the characters would not have resulted in the heavy damage of both ships.

Has anyone ever asked this question. When reliant first encounters enterprise, the enterprise knows when the Reliant locks it’s phasers on them. But right before Captain Kirk lowers the reliance shields, he orders the enterprise lock it’s phasers on the Reliant. The question is, how come the Reliant didn’t detect the fact that the enterprise locked it’s Phasers on them? That seems a bit weird to say the least.
@williamh16585 жыл бұрын
Comanche Viper, I always assumed that, that was because of Khan's crew's incompetence, or unfamiliarity with the ship, (they don't know where the override is, so they may not know where the output which tells them Enterprise has locked phasers on them is, or they may not know what that output means). Or they were just not concerned with the fact that the crippled Enterprise was locking phasers on them.
@datacipher3 жыл бұрын
William H I think those are plausible explanations and keep in mind that one of the smartest people in the federation was intensively scanning reliant trying to figure what the situation was....so it’s no surprise that Spock new instantly.... khan’s crew of supermen and women was doing pretty good considering they had literally several hours of experience lol.

@@lakecountynaturalist7617 there is a flaw in your theory. He is a genetically enhanced human being. With an matched intellect and intelligence. He would not have missed that. But not even that was the problem. Their computers should have alerted them to the fact that the enterprise had locked it’s phasers on them. But it does not. So what is the answer? Call clearly your theory has holes in it my friend.
