Dear Ozz, In 9:09 you mention that a next video with the correct TAB will follow, but it looks like the solo in the last part of the video already has the correct TAB. Correct?

Thanks for the half speed section and detailed explanation in all parts. I think this is the main difference from other youtubers. They are focusing on how they play awsome, fast, crazy etc.. But you focus exactly on teaching. Thats the biggest difference you made on videos and in your playing I think.

So glad I found your video, man. The Fatal Tragedy solo is wicked difficult, but I can't believe the tab mistakes in the official book I bought! That opening passage is literally impossible to play the way they have it written. Thank you so much for showing the right way to play it. Now there might be some hope... 🙏🏼🤘🏼

A very minor correction, but during bar 10, on the 7th and 8th beats of the bar you can hear his finger rolling over the 7th frets of both the D and G strings (and picking them, of course). There is no rest because instead of the rest you can *just* hear the 7th fret of the G string being played right before the slide from 9th to 7th fret of the D string. It will have been what Petrucci had intended to play but didn't play ithe note strongly enough. Again, very minor correction but thought you might want to know because you've done a near-PERFECT tab and I'm impressed! :)

Damn you nailed this solo! and of course an amazing video! I hope I get the time soon to learn tame this beast. I think the most difficult part for lots of John's solos is not the speed but the tempo. Sometimes I dont even know how to set up the damn metronome to practice haha

I can't see why people would say its fake, you can hear subtle nuances and burnt notes in the playthrough but its so close to perfect that the overall perfromance isn't affected at all, there'll always be detractors.

Hi :) I need ask you few questions 1 - What is the best exercises you know which allow to use fingers on both hands independent of each other not symmetrically for example left hand fingers are going 1,2,3,4 but left hand figners strokes 4,3,2,1, (if You know what I mean saying "not symmetrically" english is not my native language,I use google translator haha) Generally, it's about the exercises developing the technique of the right hand like Rasgueado in flamenco etc etc let me clarify Basically the point is that our limbs have a natural tendency for symmetrical movement. That is, if the fingers of the left hand move in the order 1,2,3,4 (from pointing to little) fingers of the right hand that want to strokes according to the same pattern. The problem arises when we want to move the fingers of both hands at the same time but in different configurations, e.g. fingers 1,2,3,4 of the left hand together with fingers 4,3,2,1of the right hand. 2 - How to deal with this picking problem: We have two strings for example E and B and now we want play E string down /\ and B string up \/ or E string up \/ and B string down /\ Alternate picking right? How to get maximum speed with tremolo in this patern: one note per string? What we should avoid, what will stop our progress? How to achieve the level of Shawn Lane ? ;D Fingerpicking is ideal for it,but plectrum picking is a challenge. 3 - Hybrid picking development :) Best exercises/licks which You know,to achieve mastery in this technique :) Could You share with us? PS. "the best" mean "most difficult" ;) PPS. even 1,2,3,4 is ok and non symetrical, if we combine it with fingers 2,3,4,1 second hand because problem is not what we do in one hand, but when we want to do different moves both hands together :)
@OzzGuitar3 жыл бұрын
1 - Exercises don't have quality, there are no better or worst exercises actually you can play any exersice or song with slow tempos... So the most important think is how you practice! I advice you to practice with tapping your foot and counting out loud. As much as you divide your body parts it will be easier for you to play non symetrical exercises. 2 - You can watch my "how to play fast with alternate picking" video 12 min detailed alternate picking lesson video 3 - For hybrid picking development you can start practicing finger style songs with hybrid picking then you can focus more intense Guthrie Govan, Tom Quayle, Brett Garsed hybrid picking exercises. Cheers
