He was a Democrat, but it goes to show how far left the Democratic Party has gone. It's why the Democrats carried the South up until the Obama era; it was a little too far for most sane people, and they started voting Republican. Jim went right along with the Party, and I don't doubt that he suffers from an inferiority complex, which makes him want to differentiate himself what he sees as lower intelligence people (knowing he'll never be an elite.)
