Back in November of 2018 Porsche debuted the brand new 992.1 911 in Carrera S and 4S trims, which made a lot of sense, because those are the best selling trims for the 911. And the S is a great trim, I mean, there's something really nice about getting that power boost and better brakes and better suspension, but keeping everything else simple and low key. But 6 years later when Porsche debuted the 992.2, the Carrera S was surprisingly absent, as the latest 911 only appeared in base and GTS trims. And with the base carrera only having 388 horsepower and neither the base or GTS offering a manual transmission, many of us were left wondering... where's the carrera S?
And on a personal note, I had been looking forward to the 992.2 reveal for two years, and I was hoping to see something that was gonna make me think - wow, I've got to have that car. But all the new 911 did was make me appreciate my 997 S even more, So I really want to know - where's the new carrera S?
And what concerns me, is that there haven't even been any prototypes of the Carrera S spotted. But would Porsche really eliminate their best selling 911?
Porsche has been an interesting company to follow lately, because out of one side of their mouth, they're announcing that the Cayenne will be powered by internal combustion V8s for at least another 6 years, but out the other side of their mouth, they're telling us that the little 3 liter 6 cylinder engine in the 911 makes too much pollution, and either the power needs to be restricted, or the engine needs to have hybrid assistance. And nobody seems to be calling them out on all this contradictory BS. Everyone's like "oh we're lucky to be getting a 911 at all, youknow, because of the government, meanwhile porsche is cranking out 4 times more V8 powered cayennes and panameras than all trims of the 911 combined.
And it seems to me that Porsche is just a lot more interested in selling SUVs and Sedans than they are in selling sports cars.
Alright I'm done with my rant, we can get back to talking about the Carrera S. As it stands now, the prototypes porsche is currently testing for the 911 are the Turbo, the Turbo S, the Turbo S Touring, the GT3 the GT3 Touring, and the GT2 RS, so those cars are their priority right now. But, porsche can sometimes wait years to reveal a trim, as I mentioned in my last video about the upcoming GT3, porsche debuted 992.1 GT3 over 2 years after debuting the 992.1 Carrera. So maybe a new Carrera S is on Porsches radar, but it's just not a priority at the moment.
But with no real information about the Carrera S, the rumors are running rampant, with some people saying they know for a fact it's going to be purely internal combustion, and other people saying they know for a fact it's going to be hybrid. But it seems like everyone who claims to be "in the know" can agree, there will be a new carrera S, at some point.
There's a particular Rennlist member who usually seems to have some good insider information, that's saying the new Carrera S is going to debut this November or December, and will be turbocharged and hybrid and will produce 510 hp. If that's the case this is going to be one heavy and expensive Carrera S!
