In this monthly install of Arch Linux with the December 2021 ISO, I am going to go through it line by line, as many of you requested, building a light system.

This was the tutorial that filled in all the gaps and until now had held me back from exploring window managers with the locale keymap. A suggestion for 2022: btrfs with subvolumes using Snapper and Snap-Pac. Happy New Year Ermanno.

Great video! Can you please look at making a video for Manjaro / Arch on the Raspberry Pi which looks at what optimisations users can make to a base install so as to get the most from the limited resources of the Pi. Which desktop gives the best performance etc etc. Yes, I know you don't install onto a raspberry pi in the same way as a traditional PC but it might make for a useful refference video.

I first wanted it do it on a Virtual Machine but on Ubuntu Virtual Box always gives the error whenever I run Arch on it. Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908) first I will have to sort this out then I will follow your guide.

17:47 an alternative way that I find more “memorable” is to run `timedatectl set-timezone Europe/Zurich` provided by systemd, rather than the wiki suggested way of using `ln` - since we already use timedatectl to look for time zones, it makes sense to set the time zone with the same tool as well.

Hi Ermanno, can you look at latest arch iso? I think they made changes on btrfs mounting option. I have a trouble and I am not smart enough to figure out the changes ha ha. So I downloaded the Nov iso and I installed arch on other system with mounting options that I got from you when you did with btrfs. anyway, thanks alot and you really does help alot

Ermanno I want your opinion. I have found out that intel-ucode and amd-ucode are non libre so is necessary to install these packages ? I tried parabola linux some time and i found out this packages are not present in it because they are not open source.

had a problem with missing sed and while executing locale-gen and missing packages like pacman on the chroot environment Fixed it by adding base packages while executing pacstrap command

I have hit a dead end...i watched the dual boot video, the efi instalation and the separate home partition, but i need to do the three cases at once as i am changing manjaro for Arch but i would like to keep my home partition intact. I guess i just have to mount it again with gdisk, but i read something about changing ownership after creating my user...could someone explain me how and when exactly? I thought about testing it with a dual boot VM bu it involves three instalation... thank you!!

Same for me. I have already had an Fedora running in my primary SSD and a Windows 11 running in the second SSD. I tried the dual boot method to installl Arch into the third SSD. The rEFInd install command does not work. It crashes in the middle and misses some important steps and won't boot. I tried to manually copying the rEFInd files, edit and copy refind.conf and refind_linux.conf to the esp. It works. But I tried something and f*** up the Arch Linux. Try again but no luck the second time! Arch Linux installation is not difficult until the setting up of booting or dual-boot. it is hell!

Can someone explain me why it's needed to have a seperate root ('/') and home ('/home') partition? And also how do I know how large my root partition should be?

Home is where all your personal files exist. Root is where your system files exist. Home is for the user and root is required to run the system.
