Alpha Defense is correct. Israeli drones have failed to achieve their performance targets. 1. Unreliable satellite communication (Satcom) system. For unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) that operate hundreds of kilometers away from their base stations, seamless connectivity is crucial. The current requirement is beyond horizon operations where UAV operates beyond line of sight and remains connected through satellite link. 2. Israeli drones last only 12 hours. Indian Navy sources indicate that the drones fail to deliver even half of the promised endurance. This shortfall is alarming, given that the tri-services requirement for Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) UAVs is at least 24 hours with payload. In Indian conditions, these drones are far from meeting expectations, making them unsuitable for operational needs. Source: Challenges with the Israeli Drones : A Closer Look Alpha Defence ISRO has launched communication satellites, which means Desi drones can offer reliable satcom communication for hundreds of kilometers. Desi drones also have better proven endurance in Bharati conditions. Archer NG can last 18 hours. Combined these are two decisive performance advantages over imported drones, as well as better cost and easier maintenance. Advantage Desi Drones!

When it comes to drones rather than getting overly fixated with altitude, capabilities and endurance our armed forces should also try to acquire more of these indigenous drones even if they happen to be of lesser capabilities the advantages are many fold 1) we need not be dependent on foreign oem for maintainence and spares. 2) we can get the indigenous drones in larger numbers at an lower cost and use them for workhorse roles.

@unclekanaamcuttingwalahai332 Sure, every drone falls eventually, but there’s a world of difference between a $32 million MQ-9 Reaper and a locally made $32,000 surveillance drone. One gets hyped as a "technological marvel," while the other just gets the job done. And when it comes to kamikaze drones, even a $3,200 model might be more than enough to ruin someone’s day. In fact drones r the kind of equipment where v can test our indigenous innovations. Basically they r not all that high tech and while they r very good for asymmetric warfare and for logistics and information gathering, they will not determine the course of the war by themselves. They r only a small part of the Army’s apparatus so even if the Army wants to import they should be forced to take a consignment of domestic drones. Even if they fail nothing catastrophic will happen . But the learning curve and the maturation of the tech will be enormous . V may not be able to take such risks with higher end tech like 5 th gen Jets which r one of the core parts of military defence aviation ( surprisingly v r showing greater promise in Amca than in drones ) but in pistols , guns , drones , explosives and other areas where the consequences of failure r relatively low the govt needs to force the defence forces to procure at least some part of their total requirements from indigenous solutions.

Alas piecemeal reforms have been introduced at the same time domestic innovation isn't really cultivated or cared for and this government has a knack for importing everything that the Armed forces ask for. There's age old saying "don't attribute to malice what could be attributed to stupidity." Nowadays I have started to attribute malice to people in the armed forces who make these recommendations regarding importing weapons that India can make. Whoever in the armed forces makes these import recommendations should be under 24×7 surveillance and have their bank accounts monitored. To see if he/she receives boatload of money after making the import recommendations to Ministry of Defense. That I believe if nothing else would put the fear of god in the hearts and mind of the import lobby.
