Seems as though he's feeding into the biggest divide that Africa has to date. Tribalism. Those of the American diaspora, historically/legislatively, were considered a fraction of a human being. Today we are engineers, plumbers, electricians, lawyers, doctors...ect. We are the culmination of tribes that casted away their tribalism and understood that their is a disunifying obstacle they must collectively traversed. How much more could Africans do if they cast those things aside? Not needing to import raw materials, how much quicker could they build the continent. I argue that this could be achieved exponentially faster.

I can’t understand how now, because some people are trying to Lord it up over in Africans (because they would be considered poor-ish by Europeans & American standards) they are suddenly suffering from (convenient) amnesia. In the USA black people fully overstand how the US government can sabotage black people positive efforts to free themselves from oppression & white supremacy (alleged white supremacy). So why does this ‘overstanding’ suddenly not apply to African governments too? Former CIA agent have admitted to interference in the Jamaican Manley Government (I believe it was) in the 60s. Look at what’s occurring in Ethiopia now, and isn’t that book - Confessions of a Economic Hitman (I think it’s called) all about these types of antics. We all know there are many institutions (IMF, NGOs & things like sanctions, funding of projects) as well as European and American governments covert actions that go on in secret. A whole host of measures can be utilised to destabilise and bring down governments & countries. So why only focus on corruption only? Let’s be atleast be honest, objective and holistic. African Americans and the diaspora have to do better. And to our African brothers and sisters, please do not place us all in the same basket. We are not all like that. Ok Thanks and peace 🙏😏
@speway2 жыл бұрын
@@elainem6832 "So why does this ‘overstanding’ suddenly not apply to African governments too?" Because of just that, you are government. YOU govern and make decisions for your people...present and future. How do you so easily compare that with African Americans whos government is not their own and who have had its forerunners, for liberty and justice, killed to maintain the majority status quo? Are you literally attempting to compare apples to oranges on a topical or for that manner molecular level? Do do that. It's absurd. African Americans have risen in an environment where they have been deemed less than an entire human being to obtaining the highest credentials in every facet of occupation. All while in a very hostile environment. You dare make a statement that "African Americans need to do better"? Don't worry. We will do better and always have. Even if our government, unlike yourselves, is not of ourselves.
@elainem68322 жыл бұрын
@@speway yes I Made that statement that “African Americans and the diaspora have to do better’. Clearly you have no problem colonising our African brothers and sister. Perhaps it’s because you are slightly better of than most of them, so you see and treat them as less than. Did you even watch the video. Where in the video Mr Coloniser, did this gentleman speak to the issue I raised? He had no issue speaking of the corruption found in Africa though. But clearly from your response you did not have an issue with his subjective, unbalanced response. It’s called being objective sir. Unbiased. Perhaps you should think about that. Clearly you ‘overstood’ the point re: government interference and sabotage in the black community - because you restated it. Well done for acknowledging that black/African people can work hard and raise themselves to the highest level irrespective of the barriers in place. Well, this exact achievement that you so beautifully described also occurs in Europe. Please also note that we do not have black institutions like historically black colleges, medical school and hospitals etc. Yes sir, many black peoples have also done the same thing. Also note, The Transatlantic Enslavement Trade occurred in the AMERICAS - not just in the British 13 colonies. I’m not a coloniser, I don’t think it’s ok to sexually exploit people or economically do so. Neither do I tacitly condone this despicable behaviour. I have and aspire to good morals and high standards ……. sir! SO AGAIN, African Americans AND the diaspora can DO BETTER. When you know better sir you do better. Thanks & peace 🙏🌻

Just came across this convo. Love it. One of the most important things for us to question is why is there an underlining assumption that all Black people owe each other something? People are living in a diverse world trying to survive. We also assume knowledge of each other's stories and history. We don't know. Collaboration can take us further, but it has to be pushed from higher levels and diplomatic agencies. We all can contribute to each other's success, but the reality is we are all just tying to survive in an increasingly diverse world. Good convo.

Africa owes the diaspora nothing. They should kick unscrupulous black people (& the others) like this out. Let’s see them make it in Europe and America. There are in Africa because the opportunities are not present for them in the West. The white man is in the West waiting to give their arses another round of whoopings if they try any of that funky stuff there. They have made it clear - these spaces are their countries. However, if black diasporans and others want to conduct themselves in a positive way and demonstrate good and positive stands, high morals and ethics then I’m sure our African brothers & sisters will more than welcome us/them. What is wrong with behaving like decent human beings, and holding high standards. Some black/African diasporans are acting in a real hypocritical way & that’s extremely sad. Ok, thanks and peace 🙏😏

Thank you for the discussion. Excellent points made. One thing. As a counterpoint to what Ms. Maaya said at the 5:50 mark about African Americans investing capital to employ locals in business. The question could be asked, "Are Africans doing the same when they come to America?" In many cases, they are coming for work or study opportunities. As Mr, Jackson stated, taking advantage of the opportunities available. As someone with a African-American parent and an African parent, we see a lot of miscommunication and hurt that gets in the way of our potential as a group. Also, as Mr. Jackson stated, many people on both sides are not entrepreneurial. Business is not easy. Lets invest in each other wherever we are located. Axé!
Also, I think it’s the perception that when foreigners come to American that AAs have the same opportunity. But in the Caribbean and Africa there are limited opportunities.

How can anyone make a comparison between African Americans and other groups in Africa. Foreign Blacks are NOT competing for jobs, they are self sufficient or creating employment WITHOUT taking the wealthy to build their foreign home land that cannot be said about other groups or even immigrants from Africa in the West. African Americans DONOT have to join with other Africans to take advantage of the existing opportunities in Africa that's not a requirement put on others, but they usually Will paid MORE to employees NOT the low rate because that is NOT how MOST think. Also ,for example the complain about one person buying 12acre of land that's usually at a higher price, suddenly limitation on what can be sold , AA are usually buying less quality land compare to others who sometimes get hundreds of acre sold /owned by Chinese, Lebanese, and the descendants of Europeans why was there no complaining then? and it is still happening. Who sold the better beach front properties etc to other groups for cheap? When Africans start complaining about those who have exploited them for years and demand better treatment from them , then African Americans who are small in numbers visting the continent will take any complaints seriously. Strange, how Africa Americans are being propograndantize to be negative in Africa by many people who wants a dispute.

There is some truth to this. Gambia is a small strip of land, that currently has about 2.5m people. The population is expected to grow in the next few years. But land doesn't grow any larger. So there lies the problem. The diaspora moving to the Gambia have no reason to be buying large swathes of land, unless they intend to use it for commercial purposes, such as farming that will benefit the locals by creating jobs. No diaspora is obligated to create jobs in any African country. Just move into any African country, buy an already built house, or land large enough only for your 5 bedroomed house. But if you buy 10 acres of land, build a small house on it, and then put a fence around the land with no activity going on, you're most likely going to face problems in the future. There are larger countries in Africa with vast arable land, if you want to buy large swathes of land. Just find out the land laws for a given country. Going to a small country like Gambia, and buying acres upon acres of land may be inviting potential problems in the future. Be wise.
@elainem68322 жыл бұрын
I remember reading in a post stating that there was a limit to how much land you could purchase. I think even for a farm it’s extensive. However, the point is we don’t know the detail. I think They should have played the video or given the viewing details. Yes, no one has an obligation to provide jobs to any African citizens, but the non-black people, who black people complain about, actually do provide employment via their businesses.If that is how some African Americans see this, then what is the incentive for such a poor country as Gambia to sell or lease any land at all to you. I wouldn’t. That kind of mentality makes no business sense. What’s the benefit for them - none. However, I believe there is an obligation upon us as hopefully up standing decent people, with morals and high standards, to treat people in a manner we would want to be treated ourselves. Those who are descendants of enslaved peoples and Africans/black people living in the west know about exploitation and repressive treatment. Why would they want to visit this upon others? Why not simply pay people a fair, living wage/salary? Please do not try to exploit them. You know it’s not right. You know it’s wrong. So simply do better because you know better 🙏😏

This lady needs to stand up and actually speak up. This whole thing of 'I see your point, I understand' just doesn't work. The guy is just strolling all over her and she takes everything as a fact with zero challenge. It's not a conversation, it's the American talking down to the African.

Lmao how did you figure that? It’s not anybody talking down wait for the feminism episodes you will see the difference stop being butt hurt

There 54 countries in Africa why can't Africans go to another country in Africa instead of going to the USA, by coming to the US there saying that they can't make it in Africa, Africans forget we are not just Africa American we are descendants of slaves so those who want to move to Africa have that right, Africans should have never sold there people into slavery.

I think diasporans should make an effort to learn the language and culture of the country they go to. I already know how some of us go to the motherland with a negropean mindset. I went to Ethiopia for a week. I tried my best to immerse myself in the language and culture before I went.

How can Americans be expected to build African communities? Did Americans break down African Communities? Who or what is truly responsible for the breakdown of African communities and poverty in Gambia? People act like im supposed to just pass out free money, some dont even want to work for the money. It is a collective effort that needs to take place between Gambians and Americans. I offer Gambians jobs with no exploitation. If they don't want to do the work because they believe foreigners should just give them money for nothing...they miss the opportunity.

I wouldn’t mind starting a business in Africa. I would have to pick a country. I wouldn’t mind Kenya or Uganda. However a lot of countries will not let you outright own a home or land as a foreigner.
@kervinaham73752 жыл бұрын
That's not true, how are the Europeans, Lebanese and others owning homes or leasing land to do business, as Ghanaian we don't even own land, land leased for a Ghanaian for 99 years with the option to renew after the 99 years, and fifty years for a foreigners, your guys need to understand land laws and customs in africa
@dcuthbertson57782 жыл бұрын
@@kervinaham7375 that’s what I’m referring too. Most countries lease the land for 99 years. There are some countries you can out right own the land if you buy as a foreigner. It’s only an issue if you have children and grand children who want the land after you die.
@kervinaham73752 жыл бұрын
@@dcuthbertson5778 @ thats why you need a will, to show transfer of ownership upon death, there courts in Africa too for this
@dcuthbertson57782 жыл бұрын
@@kervinaham7375 I ain’t doing all that. I’m just gonna marry a local. Lmao. Problem solved in most countries. Natural born citizens can own in most countries. 😂

It is not a good business practice to pay more and still maintain a competitive edge or acheive scale.
@Kenganda2 жыл бұрын
I disagree. Paying more attracts better talent and usually more competent workers.
