Why I like this “kid”. He has both unbelievable practical skill along with comprehensive knowledge of both the gear and the teaching technique. Not cocky, not trying to come up with buzzwords, not trying to coin techniques after himself. I’m a Police Officer and firearms instructor and have been shooting longer than Lucas has been alive (and he could completely smoke me on the range). I’ve always said to be a great instructor you must be a great student first. Look forward to learning more from you in the future. Nothing but love for someone willing to take the time to try to improve us all.

I’ve run a canted 45-degree Trijicon RMR (Type 1) on my Mk. 12 SPR build since day 1, absolutely worth it. The ability to transition from a (in my case) 4-12x scope into a micro RDS is so convenient and highly advantageous when engaging targets under 25 yards away. Paired with a good muzzle brake/compensator, there’s no better option to have the ability to focus on both long range and close targets with the power of a rifle cartridge. Also, total props to you Lucas and your editing team, I’m loving the hyped music and the quick cut-to-cut style of the video 👌

@@VictoryOrValhalla14 Most people struggle to intuitively grasp new concepts. Most need to experience things directly in order for them to be meaningful, or to seem real. The problem is that those people fail to understand that it's THEIR limitation, not a limitation of the instruction/instructor. You can watch Lucas talk about consistency and methods that help achieve speed and accuracy through consistency, but because he hasn't personally shot at someone, anything he says in that regard is meaningless to you? Good for you. Never give that part of yourself up.

Andrew Stern did I say meaningless ? No you did. Don’t put words in my mouth. This is my biggest beef with KZbin gun “celebrities” and the cult following. Don’t run KZbin channels ? The fool listens to the man that has never been in the arena. I was running a red dot on top of my ACOG for a handful of years, (including deployment) and really liked the pact that I did not have to lower my head to aim and shoot. Basically what it did was that I was more prone to look trough the red dot when in a more casual position during stops on patrols and such. Effectively I didn't have to move my head or rifle much, to start firing aimed shot. Felt more natural to me, especially in CQB where one would aim over a sight anyways (no reason to look through an optic at 4 meters ish, but having the red dot on top of the ACOG made it easy to engage a target at 4 meters and then 20-50 meters split seconds later.

Lucas Botkin you are the MAN. Excellent video. I am a hunter from Finland. I use FN semi auto in caliber 30-06. I use european 3-12x56 scope and small red dot combination. Here we need a scope that we can use also in very low light time to time also in moonshine. We like to use big and good scopes which are good in low light but not good for short range aiming. In hunting there are situations that you wait to get a moose some 50-200 meters but sometimes they are at 5 to 25 meters. Scope 3-12 is not the aiming tool in that kind of situations. It´s easy and fast to change from scope to red dot just by turnin rifle a bit. When you hunt a bear it is only animal here that can shoot back as we say. Then when the bear is close the red dot is absolutely necessary.

TREX et al embodies the “civilian market” of the firearms culture. The civilian market is so biblically and absurdly ahead of the military market that its almost comical. The civilians enjoy the ability to adapt instantly while the military takes a decade to field a dated piece of equipment. I hope that in the future the government can learn to streamline from civilian business and furnish our warriors with emerging technology as it arises instead of as it becomes outdated.
@s197mustangdriver4 жыл бұрын
bc5766 the reason government, particularly military takes so long is mainly for three reasons, cost, training, and reliability. Having the newest gear is expensive and fitting an entire fleet with new stuff for training as well as deployment isn’t feasible. Giving guys new gear before a deployment would disrupt muscle memory and potentially create a less lethal fighting force. If the new gear isn’t reliable, it risks lives and the mission.
@ericwong52074 жыл бұрын
I suggest you look at the Australian Army's model of procurement for individual equipment. The philosophy is to buy small amounts, often. Usually the units embarking on their readiness cycle receive a new issue of top-shelf, commercially available gear, which carries them through their deployment cycle. After, the gear gets handed to second-line units or reserves and the process begins again. This allows the military to keep up with current trends and improvements. As a member of a normal infantry unit, our gear is streets ahead of others such as the US or UK. In fact, several times our international friends commented that we looked more akin to a 'ranger' unit than anything else. Maybe the US should look into this model?

@@ericwong5207 If I ever find myself talking to an ADF member in town, I'll try and remember this. Already learned that the new uniform is basically procured in the individuals own time, and for the folks at Lavarack Barracks they needed to go into Melbourne to fill their paperwork out. Learned a lot of other stuff as well, but this model actually seems to make sense concerning rotation assignment for costs.

With the canted sight the hand is a bit more in a natural position if at a 30° angle and the recoil pushes right into your shoulder, that's probably why you feel like you get better recoil management. Keeping the sight picture at the same elevation is a great tip. Personally think it's a much better option than a magnifier in everything except mounted storage, since it's a "pokey thing on the side" and some rough handling may bend the mount. Overall it just sits in more firmly and switching from magnification to magnification is faster without hinges or having to take your hand off the gun.

I saw a foreign legion in UKR with a canted scope, firing sideways while staying really low to the ground. I first thought his optics came off, until i realised he had two mounts. I think this is so practical. The normal mag and vertical position of the rifle whilst in prone makes u so exposed to enemy rifle, grenades and other explosives. Being able to lay the rifle sideways and get as low as possible, keeps you alive. Being able to fire back with a lower profile also now makes it a huge tactical advantage. The other thing that is causing this shift, is the body armour plate, helmet and hearing pro which is also forcing the butt out of the default shoulder position, and obstructing perfect cheek and face contact. In military training, some instructors have told us to roll and cant the weapon axially counterclockwise into position. Much of the existing scope setups aren't taking to account the mixed, rough and tumble use in crawling, fire, movement, body armour and odd body positions. These canted scopes could be a huge tactical advantage.

nice vid man. I'm late to the party, but food for thought: the navy small arms instructors here in Hawaii actually teach to cant the rifles about -20 deg (top counterclockwise). Much more comfy. the cant can mess with long distance shooting, but inside of 100 we all highly recommend it. Another thing I noticed, since we roll the gun left a little, a few of us mount the muzzle devices canted top to the right to re-point the muzzle left as we fire.

I naturally shoot canted 45 so i actually placed a secondary fully enclosed red dot along with one on top as my backup (Sig Romeo 5s) . I’ve found that having a reflex dot installed is a little too volatile to breakage. In training I’ve been a lot faster an accurate at close quarters, I don’t train to be a sniper and justifying a shooting at 600 yards would be tough in any court. I catch a ton of shit from the “experts” 🤣 but it’s what works for me!
