The only thing that could come close to replacing them for long-distance runs with current tech is a gas engine (with or without CNG capability) hybrid where you'd get that electric torque from 0 RPM without the range issues imposed by the current state of battery development and charging infrastructure. Full EV trucks are already ideal for multi-stop delivery on fixed routes, with that it's just a matter of the upfront costs of changing over, though.

Doesn't include the outfit that's displayed on the trucks, the dealer buys the truck stripped down and a third party takes it and turns it into a tool truck, dump truck, RV, cherry picker or whatever the client needs and that price is going to be significantly more then the 65 to 71k they show there. Completely uninformed and unprepared to offer any real insight into the Gm medium duty trucks.. TFL comes off as clueless everytime.. For anyone considering a Chevy or Sister International.. DONT! They ride like absolute shit, have a horrific turning radius and a GVWR of only 23,500.. The inboard fuel tanks creat a huge problem as upfitters do a shitty job of finishing the fuel fill points so that they fill properly...Med duty trucks should have saddle tanks and GVWR"s of 26k.. The standard cab is cramped to say the least.. When you run the seat back the back is forced against the cab forcing the seatback to lean straight up.. Not very comfortable... And while we're on the seats.. Most real med duty trucks have air ride seats! Given that these trucks ride so terribly, Chevy should have come up with a better solution.. The 4 wheel drive system in these trucks is a joke! Don't ever plan on using it off the pavement! The transfer case is mounted ridiculously low! Also, no shift on the fly in high range.. You can't only shift to 4 wheel drive at under 10mph and likewise to shift back.. LAME! I have heard complaints about them being slow.. I think most of those complaints come from people who got a truck with tall rear end gears.. I drive a 20 C6500 4x4 everyday.. 4wheel drive trucks come with a 4:30 to one rear gear.. At 350hp and 700ft lbs I'd say that the drivetrain is the only part GM got right.. The Trans works good with the power it receives.. Using tow mode with the exhaust brake when loaded works well.. Braking is also solid for a juice brake system.. All in all, I wouldn't buy one... The previous generation of GM med duty trucks were better at being trucks, they just lacked the power of the new ones.. I honestly don't understand how GM got this soooo wrong.. NOT Impressed..

The medium duties still use the LML I THINK. Not the newer L5P. And still use the older true Allison 6 speed. They use the last generation Silverado interior used from 2014 (starting with 1500s) - 2019 (ending with the heavy duties). I believe the headlights are from the 2014 - 2015 Silverado 1500s. It was a partnered build with international. Full C channel straight chassis borrowed from international then GM supplied the drivetrain (except axles) and body. 4wd models use a solid front axle. They CAN NOT LEGALLY TOW as much as a 1 ton dually. But they can HAUL a TON more. These trucks aren’t meant for gooseneck trailers. They are meant for heavy upfits like dumpbeds and utility beds. Believe me I would feel much more comfortable pulling 36000 pounds behind this than a 1 ton Chevy. It would handle it a lot better realistically considering it’s own curb weight and powerful brakes. But legally, it comes nowhere near the towing capacity of the 1 tons. Kinda dumb but it’s just the way that it is

If you're towing longer distances, I think you should be ok. My biggest concern would be the Diesel Exhaust Fluid freezing. If it'll be running for reasonable lengths of time, however, the heaters in the DEF tank should be able to thaw it out(they're only on while the truck is). Also, don't fill the DEF tank fully in freezing temperatures. The fluid can expand up to 7% when it freezes and can damage the tank if overfilled.

If only we could get those in right hand drive for our (New Zealand) market. I wouldn't mind the 6500hd in double cab, 4 wheel drive with the dump tray on it. That would be work vehicle, my wife would have the suburban high country 4 wheel drive as the family vehicle. Since we dont get chev in New Zealand any more, we have to put up with asian tin cans on wheels.

I’m surprised gm is not offering more loaded up medium duty trucks for heavy truck campers. I was just at a truck camper rally and there were so many ram 5500 limited and f450s platinum trucks with flatbed conversions to haul the large and heavy Host Truck campers. Seems to be a decent market for these trucks. Especially higher end models. Denali 5500!

Love you guys but one detail you missed. This interior is actually the last generation Silverado/Sierra interior. Similar to your Trailboss because the next gen GM trucks were that close in design, but slightly different. But this folks, is carryover from the previous generation that ended in 2018 with the 1500s and HDs. It’s still fine, spend enough time in an International Durastar and the GM interior is way better. Speaking of International…. Lol

A Hot -V design that engine is not, the exhaust manifolds are still on the outside of the cylinder head like every other engine. A true hot V has the exhaust exiting on the inside of the cylinder head like fords 6.7l. The benefit of a Hot V is the shorter pathway to the turbo for quicker response and less heat loss on its way there. Also diesel engines are almost always gear driven from the crank to cam and have been for years.

Medium duty, class 5-6 has probably the lowest take rate for deluxe trim of any truck category because they're almost all fleet rigs. Even someone buying for themselves, it's not going to be an only vehicle like pickups usually are or a second home like the Class 8 longhaul semis; and small businesses are usually at the point of having at least a couple employees before they even consider buying one new.

The 6500 has better road visibility than the Ford f550 but the clam shell hood is an awesome addition to this class of truck. When is someone going to make a factory hotshot truck with a sleeper for this market? Ford 550, 600 650, 750 need a sleeper option instead of a crew cab. Ford should take the transit crew van platform and scale it up and make a medium duty truck with a sleeper, 4x4 and a Cummins engine option and 35000 towing it would probably look like the tesla semi but it would sell like hot cakes..I would buy it!!! The OTR comfort of a semi with the maintenance and maneuverability of a pickup. The only thing close would be a single axle volvo 640
