Delivery driving is part of my job, and the worst drivers where I am (Cheltenham) are people in Chelsea tractors. Always on their phones, not indicating, running lights, passing cyclists on blind corners, never giving way on roundabouts and taking up multiple car parking spaces. I seriously have enough dash cam footage to start my own Channel 5 show!

While I was out on my ped the other day, caught a women on her phone at the lights. Cars moved off and she just sat there for about 5 seconds and still hadn’t moved, with her kid in the passenger seat too. I beeped and called her out on it, and she just gave that clueless face

As a driver for a living (field engineer) it boils my blood seeing the amount of people on phones or looking down at their crouch while driving, only today I was queuing in traffic, the woman behind was just staring at her crouch (I assume phone) any way as I moved forward through the lights, she was still sat there oblivious to what must be 8 car lengths between me and her.. eventually she realized and proceeded to boot it through the now red light to catch up. Also I can confirm that mobile phone while driving is 6 points and £200.. It also doesn’t matter if you are stationary or in a car park, if you’re behind the wheel with the key, then you are “in a charge” of the vehicle.. as Ethan said cars now are fitted with handsfree, if it’s not you can get Bluetooth speakers for as little as £10.. £10 vs 6 points £200 & a potential accident.. I know which I’d prefer

I used to work in a reclamation yard and can confirm that sleepers weigh between 30-90kg depending on size and type of wood, from the picture and the fact the front wheels weren't in the air I'd say they were probably on the lighter side. I did once spin an octavia on a slip road because I had a bunch of sleepers in the boot, tipped it in a bit to enthusiastically and bottomed out the suspension before doing a 180 and facing back the way I'd come.

6 points and £200 currently. I've been a delivery driver for 16 years and have never used my phone on the open road. Tried using it on private land out of curiosity and I can see no way anyone can safely control a vehicle this way, even conversation with a passenger is distracting. I've trained as a driving instructor and have 26 years of experience, mostly good. Waiting to have a conversation won't kill anyone.

Hi guys from ČR, following the delivery driver incident I also had a quite stressful experience with a delivery driver. I was on my way home, in the middle of a clear day, and as I am comming up to a left turn 500 meters from my town a delivery driver in a Ford Transit comming from the opposite way was staring at his phone, forgot to turn and was heading straight onto me. I was doing probably 80-90 km/h at that time. I quickly turned away from him while cutting the grass on the right side of the turn and nearly ending in the ditch. Luckily the Transit driver woke up from his phone and turned on the last second. Had there been another car behind me, this would ended way worse. I know the day may be long for the delivery guys, but please, it is getting real dangerous real quick.
@robdowns45233 жыл бұрын
For me, a car is a car once you have all the bits to make it run and drive, whether it's working or not. So if you take out an engine it's a car, but if you sell that engine you're just left with a rolling chassis.

A car is an assembly, therefore removing pieces of the assembly does not make it less "car", but it will make it less OF A car. So I think that you have a "car" up until the 2nd to last piece is removed... this is only if you are removing parts. But if you go the other way around - assembling a car - it doesn't become a car until the assembly is complete.

Yesterday on the M4 at around 8:30 pm, a driver passed me in lane 2 which he stayed in despite no one being in lane 1 for miles ahead, but what annoyed me even more was that he was watching a video while driving... his phone which was mounted in the middle of the windscreen and being dark it was easy to see what he was doing - But I have seen so many drivers on their phones. I drive for Amazon and can say our drops have sky rocketed since March last year and we are in the middle of a battle with them to lower the amount we are expected to do in a day. Every driver I know doesn’t wear there seat belt or even turn the engine off at stops because we simply don’t have time. Hoping we get a victory soon so everyone can drive slower and actually take breaks. The bbc did a programme about this a couple weeks ago. We are not bad drivers just over worked and exhausted 🙃

I saw a close one with a delivery driver recently actually. 4-way junction out onto the main road, big Sprinter style Amazon delivery van waiting to pull out, Transit van approaching from the right (at a decent pace mind but shouldn't have mattered, the sightlines are all the way up the hill there). Amazon guy just pulls out in front of it and the Transit does like 100ft of smoking 11s trying to stop in time, somehow makes it round the back of them without colliding. Bet he was puckered in there.

As far as I'm aware vRS when it was introduced on the Mk1 Octavia was actually only RS. They're registered as Octavia RS turbos. The 'v' (lowercase) represents the chevron above the Š in Škoda when written properly. Recently however Škoda has decided the 'v' now represents 'victory'. The RS of course does stand for Rally Sport and Škoda did take the Octavia Mk1 rallying, even making a limited run of 100 'WRC edition' cars, with the livery and white rims, to be sold to the general public.

I remember being in Turkey with my mate and we hired a car (all under his name...but you know the game haha) on the day of return the car needed to be back for 9pm. Also on that day we traveled around 400 miles away from our Hotel for the day, all was well but we soon realised we may be late back. No wanting to pay another day we juggled high speeds, avoiding traffic and fuel management as I should point out my friend is a stickler for not giving them some extra fuel. By the way its cheap in Turkey we actually stopped to put around £3 in just to make it back to the hotel. As it turned out they where late to pickup the car as the guy coming ironically ran out of fuel...However as we where talking to the hotel staff in reception, we asked about the overhead gantree's that occasionally flashed at times randomly on both sides. At the time we didnt think much of it. The hotel concierge told us though that they are speed cameras, needless to say a moment of haha for me I'm not on the documents, but also dread for my friend. His actual response was I'm never coming back here, and to this day he has stood to that word. I suspect he is on Turkey's most wanted with the record of the most speeding tickets he has, but has never received any fallout from this.

Hey guys, just want to add something. If you find the speed traps in france difficult to spot you're not looking at the road ahead ;) Fixed speed traps are indicated with HUUUUGE signs warning you, and it's actually french law that every speed trap should be announced maximum 1km before where its located. At least that's what a french person told me. And it's true, the traps are always withing 1km after the sign that warns you.

I think I've overthought the sand thing. You will distort the heap each time you remove a grain, and if you always take off the top you will eventually flatten the heap until it's no longer a heap but say 1000 grains spread across a table. At some point in between you will squash the heap when removing a grain to where it will no longer be a heap, say when the height falls below 50% of it's diameter/average diameter at its base while also being below a boundary between an inconceivable number of grains and a somewhat conceivable number of grains, all within context. A heap of sand in a quarry would need to be vastly larger than sand heaped on a teaspoon. Basically I think there is a point where removing a single grain of sand is the defining moment when the heap is no longer a heap, but more dependant on when the person removing the grains squashes the heap, and if you have several people watching they will each have a different grain in mind that made that difference from heap to not a heap.

If you were in the Volkswagen factory, the car becomes a car as soon as an order is placed on the first part to join the assembly line, I think it's the floor pan that they then weld the sides and firewall to, because that's when they apply the tags to track the progress of certain cars around the factory in order to do all the just in time ordering of parts for the rest of assembly. For me it's the shell. It doesn't need to have doors, windows, or subframes for engine etc for me to call it a car. If there's a recognisable outline from at least 2 angles of the car it is to become It's a car to me. By that point it is committed to becoming a car and not a shelving unit or something in my opinion. A floor pan by itself is a part to be added to a car, you can replace a full floor pan in a completed car, but the shell is the point where 3 or more substantial panels have been joined to resemble the car. For body-on-frame cars it's a bit more difficult. The shell isn't itself a car in that case in my opinion, it needs a chassis to have suspension, wheels, engine, etc to be added to make it a car, but you can also have a rolling chassis that is fully kitted out with drivetrain components that makes that a car without a body shell mounted. If it's unibody, it needs to look like the body of the car it's to become, if it's body-on-frame then frame/chassis + body shell or frame/chassis + drivetrain components, 'rolling chassis'.

There are different kinds of delivery drivers. The ones you're referring to, the likes of DPD, Yodel, Amazon, Hermes etc are all multi-drop drivers and they have to deliver x amount of parcels a day within a certain time frame and are constantly against the clock, hence rushing around, plus for the majority, the vans are not their own. Others (where I fall in) are Same Day owner drivers, where we buy and run our own van and collect from point A delivering to point B whether local or distance across the country. We all get tarnished with the same brush which to be honest isnt right and hope this clears it up a little...
