There’s a shit ton of variables at play here. The first question that arises when one talks about adding a fmic is “Why?” - and this is a very legit question. If you’re running a stock turbo I don’t see the need of adding one UNLESS you live in a much hotter climate OR aesthetics. If you’re planning on a bigger turbo then that’s a whole different story. You’re definitely getting out of the range of “stock performance”. That’s when having the piggy back oem with fmic or just a full blown intercooler swap would help for demand. Those calculations are possible available too for pressure drop. If you’re using a is38 I’m sure you can figure out the CFMs and come up with a nominal number in order to avoid unnecessary drop. Pretty much you need to do your research and look at all parameters before hand.

How about dual side mount vs single front mount. Assuming the sides have fans attached to them? Is the pressure drop of double cores better than having an ic so close to the hot coolant rad?

I’ve been meaning to ask this question for a while. Re: VW GTI Mk7 GTI I get a coolant warning everyday when I start the car for the first time, once the temperature gets to 90 degrees the first time, the warning never appears again till my next first start. I stay in South Africa so I assume it can never be weather related because our coldest day is 10 degrees Celsius. Also I have checked for leaks on all piping, as well as the thermostat housing and find nothing. Please assist in this matter.

Hi guys I have,Dsg overheating issue , Ko4 mk6gti with a 7r clutch kit. Any ideas what it could be? Typically after single launch not sure what I could be, thought it was the clutch so switched with an entirely new core. At a loss now

Idk if you figured out the problem but isn’t the mk6 a dry clutch and the mk7 a wet clutch? How did you make the mk7 clutch pack work with a mk6?

@@Chevsilverado Hey man, dq250 is also a wet clutch, pretty much a basket swap, I added an external oil cooler for the transmission, and routed the coolant lines back to the engine so its separate loops.

I replaced my OE intercooler w a front mount, and I completely regret it. Reason why is because since you’re replacing the OE replacement which is sandwiched in between the radiator and AC condenser (they put in between for a reason, quicker spool which means less lag.) You create more lag since you have to fill twice the volume of air because the intercooler is now at the front, instead of being sandwiched. That’s why they use longer hoses... it looks cool but you’ll sacrifice the performance

@WonderWaffle I’m not gonna lie to you man, after the install when I got home, i touched the front fenders just bumping into it and I noticed they were abnormal hot, just touching it.. You notice things when it’s not normal, you know what I mean? This was not normal, my car never ran so hot to the point where I noticed the fenders were pretty hot too, coolant temps are normal though.. I was thinking maybe I need to also change the radiator since i did all these mods to my car. I’m also apr stage2

@WonderWaffle You see, the car does feel like it has a boost leak. That’s what I even thought too. But i have a boost gauge and even took it to the shop that tuned my car. They did hella pulls and the car was holding 18lbs strong man. Even put it in 5th and floored it, the car was holding 20lbs strong. I really don’t know man. I just wanna put the stock intercooler back on but it was a lot of work. The intercooler I got is from ARM Motorsports. Most people say it’s just like neuspeed

@WonderWaffle My boost gauge comes from the intake manifold I’m pretty sure. It’s from new south performance. I didn’t wanna get the p3 because that hooks up to the obd and I’m not sure how accurate that is.. but yeah man that’s where my car is standing Ha. Looks great w the front mount exposed but like I said, I’m suffering quite the performance and still don’t know why, the throttle response is just a tad bit slower compared to having the stock intercooler

Not a fmc the stock one flows best if you want to get the all metal higher volume one getting larger pipe will make the turbo lag little more imo stay with the stock plumbing
