To get to know if the Greeks are racists you have to ask the immigrants not the Greeks themselves.And then you have to ask the locals why you are prejudiced against a specific immigrant group ,so you can get a wider perspective on the matter.Sometimes both parties can be right

If they were racists then how do you explain thousands of men having married Phillipenese or even Japanese or German or French or even african. My 2 cousins have married an American the other German a good friend Japanese another philipenese and a third French. You should try living in Germany outside of big capital centres to small cities or in US to the northern Midwest and mideast states or in France in the country. They will never speak to you in English. They will demand to speak to them in fluent French. Try also living in the northern part of UK.

That sounds like bullshit bro. I am Pakistani living in the US. Once I went into a Greek pizza place to use the bathroom and the owner and his wife refused to let me use it without buying anything. Fair enough, I buy a bottle of water and then they ask me if i was turkish. I told them no I am Pakistani, then the owner said you guys are okay, but went on a 20 minute tirade against Turks talking all the shit under the sky. I moved to Athens from Manchester, England and after spending 6 months there and made a lot of Greek friends. I didn't feel any hostility for the most part, and I expected it since I was taking a job that a Greek person could have done. In England, its very different. We have a good economy and many jobs but yet get angry when other Europeans move here for work. At the core, I believe English are more racist than Greeks but only when it comes to nationalism and protecting jobs. In contrast, I believe that Greeks are very hospitable, kind people... but that the economic crisis is causing resentment towards foreigners who make their situation worse. This is understandable in my opinion. If England was to be in the same situation, we would have shameful far right groups terrorising the refugees, daily protests and constant riots. For example, one of the reasons we want to leave the EU is to control immigration. What I'm saying is, no Greeks aren't racist. They just can't handle any more instability and don't want to be dragged further down by immigration. Nevertheless, I still regularly witnessed kind, caring attitude towards refuges. On the metro I would see struggling locals offer money to middle-eastern beggars. I will always love and respect the Greek people for their kind hearts. Right now, I'm even learning the language and plan to move back to Athens in a couple of years. This shows how welcomed I felt in Greece

Now imagine that you moved to Athens from Vlorë, Albania and you are taking a job that a Greek person could have done. The lady at minute 1:20 described perfectly the situation. Unfortunately, in Balkan and Eastern Europe in general, the same is valid. I won't call it racism, because usually they do not know what racism means, I would call it lack of education, because they do not judge the person in front of them, but they judge their wallet. If they have more money than them, they offer respect and vice versa.

@@calinutzzz you mean lack of brainwashing! A power word and illogical concept like racism shouldnt be in the public discourse, since it shames natural tendencies towards nation and culture. Everyone whose mind has not been poisoned by american cultural marxism , has an in-group preference. A Greek will not act racist like the Albanian or Turkish friend said earlier rather will act furiously when someone is ungrateful or tries to force his/her culture on him/her. I don’t care if I’m going to get downvoted, but there is clearly selection bias at play here. The people electing to be on camera will clearly represent a subset of the population with more liberal views or those who dispel racist tendencies. Who would agree to go on camera admitting the faults of the country/themselves to be posted on the internet? Doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist in a quiet street corner. I am a student studying Greek to fulfill a foreign language credit. In my Greek language class I am the only person of a particular background (it isn’t Greek, the actual background is irrelevant). The professor always singles me out, makes micro-aggressive comments to me about my country/region of origin, and then laughs about it. This encourages all the other students, the majority of whom are part of the Greek diaspora, and none of whom are part of my ethnic/racial background, to laugh along with him while I sit there feeling helpless. There couldn’t be a more hostile learning environment even if you wanted one. Plus the other students are rude, some glare at me, and some can’t even acknowledge me or treat me like I’m invisible. I have never met a more close minded group of people - in this particular class. Remember folks, if you don’t speak up when you see injustices happening around you, then you are also part of the problem.

I have enough wits about me to know not to group everyone together and perhaps I just got a bunch of bad apples, HOWEVER, one day someone from outside the community might encounter people behaving in the way my class does, and the sentiment won’t be as forgiving. There is the serious potential for the entire reputation of the people and culture to be tarnished in someone’s mind. I will continue to have an open mind as much as possible, but in all honesty, that luxury was never afforded to me from my country’s Greek diaspora community.

Terribly biased video i sadly have to say i believe that the 3.56 part is disgenuous and just simply pushing his views & open borders agenda through some friend of his. Advocating for mass immigration & claiming multiculturalism as a priori positive feeds more racism , populism and harms social cohesion , its an irresponsible position that denies current realities and harms the legal migrants of this country who by all means enrich our experience and lifes in Greece. Also where's the limit to immigration ? Is Greece gonna be the global camp of poor people in this planet ? Greece has already challenges to integrate the Roma communities , the recent waves of Muslims migrants (extremely hard to integrate) and a neighbour (Turkey) that recently used masses of its migrant population to destabilize Greece and European Union in our land borders in Evros. GR also has a majority (60%) population of 'migrants' in its prisons throughout its country , this is unreasonably high if we take into account their general minor population and raises questions on the quality of immigration that we receive (islamic,ultraconservative,unskilled) and the fact that Greece doesn't have the resources to host and provide decent living conditions to all migrants (which we are not obliged to do so ofcourse).

For all those that say the women in the denim jacket is “speaking the truth” because she strongly claims racism is not about colour, ethnicity, culture, mother tongue, it’s about class, then she is a huge psychopath and a pathological liar and world master oppressed and manipulator as the one uses “class” as a false excuse of not being racist is the main one by being racist by Ignoring the fact racism comes from pride not fear. The concept, of I’m better than you because I am greek or because I have a white European skin complexion, and so on is being racist to that specific individuals financial statutes by not fully saying it but, between the lines, the majority of the Greek racist population that reside in their homelands and over the global are saying, “hey, because you come from the ethnicity and you don’t have what we financially and economically have, then your less than us due to your country’s economic and financial status that you needed to come seek refugee and our assistance from us”. Now, in gods book, the loud and Crystal clear spells out RACISM in his book. Greeks are more than definitely beyond racist, they are with all honest walking and living terroristic demons that desperately try to act like their Caucasian when we all know they’re not, cuz their not Caucasian by blood , heads full of ignorance and stupidity to the max, and a very satanic black filthy heart full of pork and wine. They call themselves religious orthodox when they don’t even act like it nor do they follow Christ teachings. Even pure original Arab orthodox, Catholics, and christians can do wait better than that. Come learn from us Arabs because we teach life how to be life, period. May the creator descend on any racist human being, especially the Greeks and may he make all you lives a living hell in this life and the hereafter, ameen. What comes around goes around and for anybody else reading this , a quick advice and a heads up, to know if someone has a closed-mind brain and is extremely stupid, check to see if their racist or demonstrate any type of racism in their body language, tone, and speech. Greek people need to shake up and wake up before the creator wakes all of you guys up cuz even the Caucasians that originally come from England and that reside in America, Canada, and Australia hate every Greek person and they treat them with a lot of racism. Give me a GOD DAME BREAK!!!!!! And go get a life!!!!!!

I’m a Greek-American, my dad is from Greece and my mom is also half Greek. I grew up heavily involved with the greek community in my city in America and have gone to Greece quite a bit. I understand a lot of greek and most of my family lives there. I have found there is a lot of racism among Greeks and they don’t realize how prejudiced they are, unless they’ve lived elsewhere. The way that refugees are looked upon and talked about, and a lot of “gypsies,” the way they live separately and are avoided by Greeks like the plague. Little “jokes” here and there about them and how they live. I see Greeks talk shit in greek in front of people who look different or who think won’t understand them. Also same kind of attitudes towards tourists. The Greeks in America have a different perspective, but in Greece I see a lot of racism

You may be partially Greek by blood but are lacking a Greek identity so are not Greek. You an American leftist and one racist towards actual Greeks. What you call "racism" is actually distrust of foreigners... like yourself. Part of the reason for this is the mass violation of Greece's borders. A secondary reason is a reaction to how nearly the entirely planet behaves racist towards Greeks. After mocking Greeks for refusing to recognize the former Yugoslavians as "Macedonians", nearly everyone pretends not to notice their irredentism and bizarre attempts to steal our historian and identity. Addendum: supermavros6072 has been troling the tread ranting about Greeks like you have. He, like a couple of other trolls here, pretended to be Greek but if you google his handle turns out he spends a lot of time ranting about Greeks on Turkish websites. I don’t think Greeks are racist. The Albanian guy said he was bullied from a young age and that’s because kids don’t think that they might hurt someone with their words cause they’re immature, I think there are many foreigners in Greece and we accept everyone. I think most elders are racists but younger generations are accepting. If you are a foreigner in Greece and you’re not causing any problem then you won’t have any problem too! People will help you & always try to talk with their broken English to make you feel comfortable. Sometimes family is also a reason why some kids may be racist but as time goes by I see more accepting & friendly teenagers than racists. But don’t forget that EVERYWHERE there are racists so even if Greeks in general are not , you can always run into someone who is. Not only in Greece , anywhere in the world

To be a racist, means that you discriminate people according to their race. This is not really the case in Greece, for people of other races (not Caucasian or Mediterranean) like Asians or African - Americans are quite welcome by most Greeks, whereas people of the same racial type, as Albanians, encounter a different attitude. This proves that it's not so much race but cultural stereotypes that form Greek people's attitude towards foreigners.

I can’t really speak for most Greeks as I’m a Greek American but judging by yt comments it seems like Greeks on average hate Turks more than Turks hate Greeks. Greek people obviously want their capital city back more than anything but I don’t think they want to evict innocent Turks from their homes, businesses, etc. in the process. Sometimes I wonder what would happen if the Turkish government became secular and left winged again and generously decided to only give the small part of Istanbul that was Constantinople back to Greece in some sort of exchange. I’m pretty sure that would make Greek people extremely happy and Turkey would become a brother to Greece. On the other hand I have no idea how crazy this sounds from a Turkish perspective
@Mango-cf1tp

@@universetraveler5826 No. The Greeks don't just want Istanbul. The Greeks want all of Anatolia and the last thing a Greek cares about is innocent Turks. Some historians say that we also live in Siberia. I think you can guess what Russia would do to us if we asked Russia to give a place to Siberia today.For example, where you are is a place where Europeans immigrated and established a country. But it did not belong to them before. So, is a country established for natives in America now?
@universetraveler5826
@universetraveler5826 3 жыл бұрын
@@Mango-cf1tp Most Americans feel pretty shitty about we did to natives. Our government tries to compensate by giving them tens of thousands of dollars when they turn 18 as well as free scholarships, full citizenship, etc. but we will never be able to fully make up for it. However we did give them a decent amount of their land back relative to their small population. Not many people know this but this is the actual United States: www.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/comments/2q3y9o/contiguous_united_states_minus_indian/ That’s what I’m wondering about with Turkey. Not that they give back all of Anatolia of course. Just a tiny piece of it like the US did to the natives. As for the Greek people, don’t let the bigoted internet trolls speak for Greece. Most are reasonable and know that Turkish people aren’t to blame for their government’s actions. My grandfather for example was born in Istanbul and his family was harassed so bad that his parents shipped him away to Greece. He gets very sad when he thinks about his home city and has an enormous hatred for the Turkish government but even he doesn’t blame the Turkish people. The vast majority of Greeks know that ones morals has nothing to do with their ethnicity. Sure the Greeks want western Anatolia but every realist knows that’ll never happen. What they’re really proud of is Constantinople and if Turkey generously gave that back to them I genuinely feel the Greeks would love them for it. I know my Greek side of the family would.

To me, the problem lies in the issue presented by the pair of Albanian gentleman after the 7th minute mark. “We didn’t come here to be Greek. “We just came here to work.” While such a position is understandable enough, it is also understandable why a people would want immigrants to “be like them”. An individual who wants to be Greek and has a passion for Greek culture is an asset. Someone who only cares about how he can benefit from the society and doesn’t want to be a part of it, can be seen as a threat. I wonder how Albanians would react to the establishment of a “Greek community” in Albania? While racism is certainly a problem, its also natural reaction to the rapid increase of non-integrating people and the societal divides it creates.

What's the problem with an Albanian community and a Greek community?
@costasmegas
@costasmegas 4 жыл бұрын
Ricardo Matos Vieira Theres no problem at all. Did you not read my full comment? My point is that when immigration results in successful assimilation as then it should appear less threatening. When immigration fails to do so, it can establish two (or more) separate communities competing for the same space. When someone loves your culture and wants to be “ be a part of it “ you will eventually become one new community. That’s how it should work. Of course it also has to do with the attitudes of the migrants and hosts, their similarities/differences, socioeconomic factors, immigrant criminality, as well as the rate of migration. If something goes wrong with any of the above, the perception of threat is also greater. But those are separate points.

Greeks are generally nationalists (not necessarily by the meaning of "ultra-nationalism" that is used today, I would call them "patriots"). But not racists. Some may be, as everywhere else, but Greeks are no so "closed to their nation" as other peoples. A Greek would respect a normal Muslim, a cheerful and honest Albanian, an educated Romani, etc. And at the same time they will hate a Muslim who insults our own culture, an Albanian who believes in Greater Albania (popular Albanian irredintistic idea) or who looks for ways to steal, the Romani who parasitize in our society. Really thirsty for views i see Easy Languages. No ethnicity is inherently racist. Showing a video of 5-6 people and then labeling it "are Greeks racist?" as if with this video you were able to get an answer based on personal singular experiences that literally can and do happen in every piece of land in the world is low quality content and clickbait topic in a channel based on "teaching" a language.
@toscoba5318
@toscoba5318 4 жыл бұрын
It's quite contradictory since his video is supposedly about racism/bigotry and he is asking a racist question. I don't know what he was thinking when he asked this kind of question but linking something negative with one specific ethnicity is something that bigots are doing.
@EasyGreekVideos
@EasyGreekVideos 4 жыл бұрын
Would it have been racist if the question had been "are Greeks hospitable"? Surely we can't make a point about the whole Greek nation just from a handful of answers either way, right?. But still: people have specific perceptions about their own people on the one hand and other peoples on the other. Variety is self-explanatory within the group (which makes the question sound racist), but other groups are usually set apart by a single trait and a generalized remark or stereotype (e.g. Albanians, Germans, Americans, Pakistani people etc are all, more or less, a specific way)
@EasyGreekVideos
@EasyGreekVideos 4 жыл бұрын
Well, my personal opinion about all this is that you can never generalize about any group of people by having had an experience with only a handful of them -- either good or bad. If we said "Greeks are fantastic and hospitable", would that apply to all of us? It would still be a generalization, and no better at describing the "truth". On the other hand, stereotypes do exist, and they do say in every stereotype there is a grain of truth (we've made another episode about what Greeks think stereotypes about Greeks are). I'd been hearing the stereotype that Greeks were racist by different people, but also hearing about racist actions by some Greek people in the news (I think the incident that gave me the thought was the attack against the Iranian schoolboy), and thus was inspired to make this episode to ask more people what they thought about this and start a conversation.
@toscoba5318
@toscoba5318 4 жыл бұрын
@@EasyGreekVideos These are quite lame excuses. "they do say in every stereotype there is a grain of truth"? "I'd been hearing the stereotype that Greeks were racist by different people, but also hearing about racist actions by some Greek people in the news" And you were "inspired" by an incident to ask if 11.000.000 people are racists? So the next time that you will hear about a murder in the news (a crime in the news, how shocking! Something like that has never happened before!) you will be asking if the greeks are murderers? If you were in Germany and you had heard about a crime commited by neo-nazis would you go out and ask Germans if they were nazis and then include answers in your video that were giving the impression that germans were indeed nazis? I'm sure that they would have loved a video like this. If you were in the US would you say to americans that:"I'd been hearing the stereotype that Americans are dumb by different people and since they say that in every stereotype there is a grain of truth (Easy Greek's wisdom here) do you believe that americans are dumb? And I hope that you won't mind that in my video I will include the answers that will create the false impression that you are indeed dumb, right?" If your personal opinion was that "you can never generalize about any group of people" you wouldn't ask this kind of questions in the first place.
@EasyGreekVideos
@EasyGreekVideos 4 жыл бұрын
@@toscoba5318 I don't understand your point. Is it that we can never generalize about an entire people? Well, I would agree with you! That's the point of the video actually. But I used the question to spark discussion and see what people had to say about the matter.

Racist no, but maybe little xenophobic. The country is very homogenous with 92-95% of population being Greek. So I think people are not much used to the diversity felt in its Western European nations. It's definitely an experience you will see and feel. They can refer to those people as 'xeni' , or o xenos, but it's not in bad way, just not used to diversity is all.

Surprisingly the British Isles (in the west) is similarly genetically homogenous. For example, I'm 100% ethnically British Isles without English although I live in England currently)... it seems to be coastal/island or littoral thing. That said it complicates it when you realise English people are quite intolerant (being brutally honest).. and Irish people (republic), are largely accepting, for example. Therefore depending on where it's happening, the reasons can be quite complex and wide ranging. The truth is, I don't know myself but in some respects I look up to Greek people because I believe they have a superior culture to here in my honest opinion.

I never heard of people having problems with brown skin, as a matter of fact most people in Greece found it sexy, especially at the urban centres 50% of the marriages are between Greek and foreign people... it's also very common for Greeks at summer to get darker skin tones like the one of yours and it's never been noted as something negative on the contrary it's just in our DNA too being Mediterranean people, I mean my father was born blond with green eyes and by the time he passed away he had a Skin tone close to the arab or Latin American people, an other example is my wife, she is half Egyptian half Greek and honestly no one from the family ever gave her a strange look on the contrary they found her gorgeous So your experience sounds very strange to me, basically it reminds me stories my parents used to say to me about the 70s and the 80s..

Παυλος Χαραλαμπους it's not a problem, but as you said, you got darker in the summer, the family of my father are from a little city called Lamia, when I was there the i shown to the people pics of my before the summer and they told me things like, “oh you are very handsome without the dark skin” and those sort of comments, and there were not just my family that said to me that but the people in general said the same thing, by the end i felt really uncomfortable.

Would you not ask migrants to get a true reflection of the issue in Greece? That's the same as asking abusers if they think abuse is a problem in relationships. Many Greeks are extremely racist,.especially against people of African decent.

Depends on which Greek you meet, how you move to Greece, and how you yourself treat Greeks. - A tiny minority of Greeks are racists. - The majority are hostile to migrants that violate Greek borders but not because they are racist. It's because they don't appreciate them disrespecting Greece's sovereignty (which most people in most countries don't like so it's not just a Greek thing). - The majority of Greeks are friendly to those that are in Greece via legal immigration processes (including Turks). They differentiate between political issues with say Erdogan and individual Turks who are each unique people (that can be either good or bad just like Greeks)

The truth is, most Greeks are not racist and respect good people wherever they may hail from. However, with their history, culture and civilization they do indeed have a very high opinion of themselves and come off as arrogant many times.

@@Horusian sadly I don't have much time to search in more detail, but Ottomans choosing Balcan peoples over Greeks because the latter were weak is something I had never heard of. They chose among the subject peoples that they had at hand, and they would prefer Greeks at the beginning by the simple fact that they were the closest. Probably the metropolitan Greeks were "weaker" or less apt for military service and better for administration, but the people in the countryside were little different from their slav neighbors. If they wanted their "hardiest" subjects to be jennisaries they'd have chosen preferentially from their Mongol subjects.

Do you know why Greece is called Greece? Because it is the land of the greeks. Caring for your own people more than for foreigners is like you caring for your family more than for somebody else’s. This is natural. It’s not that you hate the foreigners, but more like you care about your own people more. PS: This channel censors comments that are not politically correct. It happened to me.
